Weekly Update - Meet Yumi In Her First CG Scene!

A mysterious girl has been following me all day at a distance. I couldn't figure out what she wanted from me...that is until I found myself with her thighs around my head!

Is this how you greet an old friend? What is wrong with you???

---

The time is ALMOST upon us! I am finishing writing the first 'episode' of my new game Don't Flex On Me, Yumi-chan!!!. I am unsure if I clearly stated it before, but I am planning on writing this game as if it was an anime series, with each part separated into distinct 'episodes'.

Of course, the overarching story will be continuous and logical, but separated into 'bite sized' episodes each with their own smaller story arc that will see a conclusion. And thus, the first episode is almost complete.

Unfortunately, the CG scene I am teasing in this update's screenshot won't be animated, at least not now. I am readying the material for the animation commission and it will be made available as soon as it is ready and implemented

So far, I'm really digging the vibe of my work for this new game. I'm going for a more 'slice of life' tone, even injecting more of myself into the story, going back to my teenage / early twenties era for inspiration into writing a romantic comedy.

For the phenomenal art, I am working with Chayon (who doesn't appear to have any social media presence, sorry for only linking to their Fiverr account). I am very excited by their work so far, it looks very professional and very 'classic anime' in its look, which should please most of you. For once, I am not forcing y'all to like an artist with a style too extreme that I fell in love with on my own. Haha.

---

To be honest, that's kinda it. No other news, really. I've been too busy teaching myself Ren'Py to really do anything else. On this matter, it is going well. I am only using the very basic functionalities of Ren'Py, but I am picking up speed when it comes to writing the actual game itself. The scenes really fly by faster, I only waste time on the visual effects and every other bells and whistles.

The release of The Bunny Girls game on Steam went well, all things considered. To give you an idea of how my games perform on the platform, since its release it made close to 700$ USD in revenue so far (for about 120 copies sold or so), so it is recouping the investment slowly but surely. That is not a 'success' on Steam by any metric. I just scrape by, basically.

---

Aaaaand that's it. The sudden changes in weather over where I live is giving us a pretty wild winter, and it has created scarily long icicles hanging from my roof, that I can see clearly in the window of my office. I am scared that when the weather will be warmer, they might fall while I am hanging out in my backyard and impale me to death. As if I needed any more reasons to NOT go out.

Next week you'll get a first build of the game starring Yumi-chan. I hope you are all looking forward to it. It's been a loooong time coming. Until then, stay safe out there!

Weekly Update - Having A Slice Of Ren'Py

Huh? That guy is weird, wearing a hoodie, trying to hide his identity in the store like that. Perhaps he is a famous athlete? He looks pretty buff anyway, wouldn't want to get on his bad side. Better leave him alone.
Wait, wait, wait. Look at that butt! Is that a....GIRL???
---
My haters and all other detractors will be happy to hear that I have begun writing the next game in Ren,Py!
FINALLY!!!
My first thoughts about it is that it is a programmer-first engine, and it is NOT as beginner-friendly as they would have you believe. I am wasting a lot of time doing trial-and-error code until I get what I want. Every little thing I attempt the first time does not work, and I need to finagle and tweak until it does. That's a lot of wasted time, and I am not progressing as fast as I hoped, but I can see myself improving and getting the hang of things after a few weeks of tireless work.
Which means that the Childhood Friend game will have all the modern accommodations of top-of-the-line visual novels. Also, its new name will be made official when I release the first build towards the end of the month (Heavy Weight subscribers have a good idea of what it will be, based on our last poll).
Which, in contrast, might make The Bodyguard 2 look a little bad in comparison, since it is still using the old Visual Novel Maker engine. I don't know if I want to undertake the work of porting the entire game on another engine, especially since I have no idea how to code minigames in Ren'Py, at least not yet.
Would you be interested in me porting the game? Do you mind losing the minigames in the process? Or perhaps I should hire a programmer to create the minigames for me? Hiring programmers scares me, tbh, because those people can command high fees for their skills.
---
I am considering commissioning the animation of the CG scenes of the Childhood Friend game. I was offered the service by long-time Peach Punch collaborator Abi Boge, and I just might take them up on the offer. I told y'all, I want to pull all the stops for that game, I sincerely believe in it, I think it has something special.
---
And that's that. Over where I live, we've been hit by a severe snowstorm earlier this week, and the weather is confirming another one is headed our way tomorrow. I'm the type of guy who drives real slow in extreme weather; I'm basically an old man, even if I don't have the age. Still, if the weather over where you live is anything like mine, don't take any chances and stay home.
Until then, stay safe (in) there!

Weekly Update - Happy New Year 2024!

The New Year's Eve party is in full swing. It is chaotic and noisy, and you feel like you need some fresh air and quiet. You arrive on the balcony while the clock strikes midnight and the fireworks explode in the air.

Turning to face a figure sneaking up behind you, you meet the tall, imposing bodyguard you've seen walking around the crowd all evening. She appears to finally let her guard down for a second as you both share an intimate moment, welcoming the new year in the glow of the colorful pyrotechnics.

---

I hope you've all had wonderful holidays, regardless of how you celebrated it. Admittedly, I've been slacking off a bit in the past week, opting to accompany my SO during her full week off, and not working much.

That said, I did spend some of my downtime working on some random project that I might show you if it ever gets to an interesting point. It is not a game, but another medium. We'll see.

---

I have received the sketches for a new CG Scene starring the childhood friend, so I should get on it and start working on that dang game already. I need to change game engines and I am currently debating whether or not I should develop it on Tyranobuilder or Ren'Py. I am rather intimidated by the latter, but the former appears to be very similar in nature than the flawed Visual Novel Maker software I am currently using. I might give it a go.

---

Finally, here is a random list of wild ideas I've had for 2024. I don't think I'll accomplish any of them : those are just ideas that have been floating around in my head during the holiday break
  • Creating a printable 3D statue of Vivian in her tactical suit and sharing it here
  • Commissioning short black & white manga stories
  • Creating a parody/pastiche of Metal Gear Solid games in RPG Architect in which you fight against a few muscle girls

Let me know if any of those set your imagination on fire. In the meanwhile, I'll focus on making games.

--

And that's it. I have a good feeling about the coming year, and I hope my work will be up to match my ambitions.

Until then, stay safe out there!
