Welcome to November! It ended up being a pretty decent birthday for me this week and I got a nice boost to my coffee supply so now I have the bean juice to keep me going for a while. It took over a month, so I finally got last month’s itchio payout as well. It seems like that site is under constant DDOS, so it’s become a lot less reliable that it already decided to be by throwing all of us under a bus this past July.
The art for the final title screen by Mambolina has finally arrived and I am very happy with how it turned out! The art from the last few stragglers also finally came in (no more having to “check-in” every month) so now everything is in place to get things finalized. I’ll probably start working on it in my downtime here and there to wrap things up.
The only concern that I have for it is the fact that RPG Maker is forcing an update instead of letting me use the specific version I have been using all of these years, so hopefully it doesn’t break anything... but there’s a reason why I locked it down and that’s because it always did mess a bunch of stuff up.
For what I have to do, aside from shaking off a little rust in the engine, is implement the artwork I do have, make some changes to the cards without the artwork, and add some small bits like treasure chests in the final dungeons. I should also go through and change some of Subscribe Star Man’s dialogue and remove the promises of adding more art, since I don’t intend to do so at this time. I’ll go over why after it’s released and I do a little Post Mortem blog post on itch about it.
Corruption Crucible is my first priority, so I’m not putting down any solid dates on when this will be wrapped up, but I don’t anticipate it taking longer than the end of the year to put out, and the release itself might get pushed back depending on when I release a commercial build of CC.
Welcome to all the new followers and subscribers and a huge thank you for those that decided to stick around and see how things develop. I have been hard at work getting things kicked off for the changes to come at the end of the month. Now that Kinktober is over, Zin is finishing up the rest of the CGs for the current capture effects, and a little treat for reaching the end of the playable levels. As soon as she wraps that up, I’ll be discussing more art and what she is able to do by the end of the month. It is Thanksgiving, so things might get delayed a little depending on our holiday plans.
One of the things to get commissioned... HYPNO BIMBOS! Congratulations to all of those who voted for the winning result. Now YOU will get to turn the tides a transform them! I’m still deciding on what I want to do with them once they are transformed. Maybe you “collect” them for a random item drop? I considered having them fight for you, but the programming for that would take far too long to set up to promise something so complex... although I could so something akin to having them act like a “missile.” They could charge at a nearby enemy, sacrificing themselves to damage or debuff them? I’ll have to let it cook a bit.
The other big thing I want to do for the end of the month is the “Station Core” level. It will be the (current) end cap and final level of the game (at least for now). You attack a giant energy core in the middle of a large arena, and it will trigger traps and summon enemies as the fight progresses. This level will serve as the end cap for a commercial release of the game.
With all the polish added, I feel like it’s time we consider this a BETA as opposed to an ALPHA release. A lot of the core gameplay is complete and there’s a ton of polish. The terms are kind of muddy when it comes to indie games and early access in general but I feel like I am getting close to having a satisfying commercial release on our hands.
While I’m not 100% sure if I want to release this on itchio due to their shitty reversal on adult games, lack of visibility/indexing, and their now-unreliable payments, I will definitely release this on Steam. This doesn’t mean I intend to stop, for as long as there is growing support, I will continue to add more content to the game.
I’ve been thinking about how to go about a few things. Updates and Cheats. Once Corruption Crucible is on the Steam store, any content additions will have to be DLC so they can be verified by Valve’s team. This is to prevent dishonest devs from sneaking stuff into their game that Valve or the players might not want or be aware of.
I’ll probably keep the DLC updates to the Steam version free, but that depends on how big the updates are. If we’re talking whole new episodes worth of levels, I think it’s fair to charge a bit more. Either way, I doubt the DLCs will happen very often, maybe once every 3 or 4 month just to keep things manageable and fair to the monthly supporters (you get it first!).
I also thought about how I want to handle the Cheats menu for the extra support, and I think I will keep that exclusive to the supporters. Charging the difference for an add-on comes across as pretty tacky and I don’t think people will buy Corruption Crucible if it comes with a $25-$30 price tag.
Aside from the big stuff, I’ve been working on some other improvements and extras to enjoy! The first thing that you will notice in the video below is that there is now a starry sky! Setting up Skyboxes was something that I wanted to get done for a while now, but I never got the chance with everything else. I was a bit of a pain because it messed with the lighting on all of the stages, but things should look pretty similar to how they do now. It’s a little low resolution (intentionally so) but it might be too low, so I might replace the image with a sharper one later. Just a little touch, not a huge deal.
REBINDABLE KEYS ARE HERE! I didn’t expect things to take so long to learn, but my two days of setting up the keys to be rebindable have paid off! The UI might be a little funky if you try to go wild with it, (especially the mouse buttons. I only have a poverty mouse to work with), but I tried to make it nice and intuitive for those not trying to break it for fun. The Settings Menu is a little bit different now too. I need to show the aesthetics a little TLC, but the tabs to switch between Settings categories are working quite well.
Power Up System! You know how there are places where you are kind of forced to take damage on those red damage floors? WELL NOT FOR LONG! I’m implemented the first (might be the only) temporary power up, the rad su... the Power Boots, which will prevent you from taking damage on red floors while they last. I’ll be adding them to the relevant levels. This also allows me to consider other timed power-ups like Berserk or Invincibility.
Difficulty and Granular Cheats? Just like DOOM, I want to give players the option to set their difficulty when they start a new game (changed in Settings Menu) so that those who have a harder time with more action-oriented gameplay are still able to progress through the levels and see all the capture effects. HP, Damage, Capture, Starting Armor for easier modes, and other aspects will be changed depending on which one you decide to go with.
Opening up more modular controls for difficulty will allow me to implement some bonuses to the Cheats menu, giving them more modular control of things from aspects like that all the way down to the base size/speed of the struggle bar for a truly customizable experience. I don’t know if I will be able to get it all set up by the end of the month with Thanksgiving and everything else, but it’s on the docket.
Level Rewards and (togglable) Unlocks to come! I want to reward those completionist types for playing the game with some more permanent power-ups, and the option to disable them if you don’t like them. These would be small, but stack for each level where you completed the objective. For example, killing all the enemies in each level will give you a +10 Max Ammo for each type, for each level that you fulfill the requirement on.
There’s other small things that I want to tweak too. I’d like to find some particle effects to play when you shoot enemies and glass (instead of the placeholder that I currently use for enemies). There’s probably like another 100 small changes I want to make, but that’s the sort of stuff I am thinking about for this month once the other, higher priority stuff is completed.

It seems like you all really like Lydia and want to help her out... but are you sure you’re not getting too close? Also, thanks to BDGA, we now have the art for each chapter coming in as foretold by the old milestone goal. He did a great job, and each one is going to be better than the last.
Since the November Demo is right after Thanksgiving, there’s a small chance that I will push it back to Saturday or even Monday. I’ll let you all know if there is a schedule change.
Phew! I feel like I’ve been writing the longest one of these yet! There’s just so much I want to talk about with Corruption Crucible, it’s hard to know when to cut myself off. Hahahah! It looks like we once again hit a milestone for the community suggested enemy/capture (and game over CG), so as long as we stay at this milestone, I’ll be setting up another community idea-gathering session and setting up a vote (probably a bit shorter this time to get that content in asap!)
