From the Great Library of Ang-Saellirith: The Eminent Powers of Naireanth. [Exempts]
Let me preface with this. No doubt lingers, House Dreahal, High King Thorian and High Queen Astaeni rule by the Heavenly Mandate of the First Roar, but they do so by the earnest and valuable counsel of the Snow-Scaled Circle and the Black Rose Coven. Both of which shed blood and sweat to make our Naireanth greatest on Nauheim, greatest in the north and east of Thulyandiv.
But first, let me indulge you on the origins of both. Starting with the greatest Eminent Circle of all, the Snow-Scaled. Whose origin interlaces with that of House Dreahal. Originally, they were founded as a circle of Seidhengrior – an old occupation that evolved, divided into what we nowadays call Seidhaeths and Drengriarhs. Warriors who neglected not the gifts of Viduthia, our Magnificent Mother. Though instead of seeking her knowledge on matters arcane, they visited the highest peek where her Eternal-Husband, our great winged father Nadrediorn dwelt in his mortal vestige.
There, they lived amongst his other children, befriended those who chose to live with the limits of mortality. Much of the time spent there had been lost to history, but we do know they became the first of the dragon riders, the Einhaeriths who spread in the High Lands, coming upon the aid of the helpless folk besieged by hellish hordes. By the mid-millennia, an ample host of the Snow-Scaled led the defense of Saellirith (3245-3247 of FC), fought under the shadow of the Great Elder.
The First Era of Mending, they began with a meager number compared to what their military might amounts to in present day. Though quickly, they began recruitment, reasoned with most other covens and circles to unite under them. Within a few centuries, their numbers grew beyond even their own founder’s expectations. In the ensuing unification period, they swore loyalty to future High Queen Grimhit, the point at which most historians tie the formation of the Hritvia Host.
On the other hand, we do know that the Black Rose Coven was founded in the 123rd Year of the Seven Epochs of the First Crusade. Though compared to the Snow-Scaled, it consisted only of thirteen elven witches, including the Black Rose herself who remained secluded by the order of her Divine-Mother. Only in the last centuries, the twelve disciples of the Black Rose were allowed egress from their sanctuary, came upon the aid of their fellow kyndred all across Thulyandiv. A few fell and for them, she wept for centuries, the others returned once the last fissure closed.
Still, they maintained their small numbers even in the First Era of Mending, and only in the fifth century, the replenished twelve were allowed to take seven of their own. During these years, we knew very little of the Black Rose herself, despite she herself venturing out from the sanctuary of her Divine-Mother. We heard tales of her adventures to the South, to the Far-West many thought to be lost for eons, and even of battles against demonic remnants.
And though the witches, their counsel remained respected–even after the Schism–their own military host formed only during the sixth or seventh century of the Second Demonic Crusade. Formed in the Siege of Ang-Reykjanes, where after seventh grueling months, the three elevated disciples decided to amass and teach what they can to the maidens of the city, and shared their essence and blood with them. A host of five thousand witches and witch-drengriarhs amassed, fought and exorcised the devils, demons and tainted hordes. A victory costly, but also spread the word of their achievement, and compelled the rest and the Black Rose herself to do the same. Though where their name came from, no one really remembers anymore. From what little we could gather, Venerated-Sister Haldorraith came up with it itself after two much drinking to numb despair.
…Despite centuries spent under the heels of the Empire, the Eminent Circles and Covens succeeded in keeping their own traditions, their own structures and styles. Specifically, the ancient style of Seidhengriors endured the passing centuries, millenniums. Including the usage of leather, silk, velvet and cotton, though each now produced through arcane-weaving and cloning instead of hunting for shed hide of dragons, beasts mutated by the leylines and nexuses. Thanks to the Magikraft Revolution, unprecedented achievements came to be not just on the battlefields or in the studies of mages, but on the tables of master tailors.
Surfaces which smoothness endure no matter what stress they got put under; lusters once seen only on the draperies, garments of gods and their divine servants. Beyond other useful traits developed and bestowed upon fabrics like Dragonidh or Beornidh Leather.
Beyond the fabrics, elements endured. Collars as great in height and volume as cowl, in many shapes and forms, all adjustable… fluid capes to signal our arcane heritage whilst not hindering battle performance… high-shafted boots with elevated soles fit for all terrain, no matter how rugged, how angled they may be… conical witch hats, seidh-crowns, berets, and side-caps providing the same resistance as helmets if not greater through enchantments, spells woven easily into the fabric thanks to their arcane-natures.
…Eminent Circles and Covens mostly follow the same organizational structure. The exception being the United Worldly Court of Eoran, which incorporated elements from the legions. But the Snow-Scaled and Black Roses both use a branch-system with a class-system layered within. Both have the common three branches assigned to the three fundamental elements of earth, water and air–though the latter evolved into the void.
The first, the earth includes the previously mentioned Hritvia and Svartvia Host, greatest within both, led by the Class of Hersiths. Nine within the Snow-Scaled Circle, seven within the Black Rose Coven. A class ever-present in all branches. Second to them, likewise ever-present are the Thegriths, their right hands, in both battle and administrative fields.
Second of these primary branches are the Halgutvia Host for both. Once the second greatest for each, a host of great fleets, armada have not shrunk with the passage of time. Merely, they got left behind when we expanded beyond the heavens of Thulyandiv.
Which led to the exponential growth and the evolution of the sky-faring host to become the void-faring host. Hence their power, their influence too grown and earned the second place on the proverbial pedestal of the three primary branches. May even challenge the dominance of the ground hosts one day, according to some. These branches, both named the Ginutvia Host…
News and Commentary:
- This one took a bit to write, rewrite. Technically I did them both before, but somethings in their origins got changed, per the new timeline.
- Wanted to do a bit more on their organizational structure and their fashion, but decided to do those separate per class, and before stories where these classes show up. And also, instead of ranks, decided to on this class-system to differentiate them from the Legions of Heleion and the Grand Guilds. Plus, this way, the Elevated, Splendid and Majestic adjectives are the ranks within the classes.
- Uniforms wise, expanded the headpieces a little more. Helmets they still use, but only if they wear plates, armor. But yes, there will be characters in witch hats, seidh-crowns that are battle-tiaras with cheek guards, horned crowns, jewels, besides berets. Likewise, to give them a wizard/witch/sorcerer flavor and to include a bit more asymmetry, uniform coats for the Eminent Circles and Covens incorporate capes, and what here has been cut out, is that one sleeve is longer then the other, like the hem, a little bit with the collar in its circumference. And one other, a small thing, but some of the waist belts also include tassels, or may include. It is an idea I am still unsure whether to include or not.
- Name wise, unified them a bit with the -tvia suffix, and changed the Voidfarer into Ginutvia. May also give the Skyfarer Host later an inworld name, but for the time being, I just refer to them as is. And the lesser branches had some changes that I am plan to rework a bit. For example, the Raven Eyes are referred as the Hidden Sect of the Black Rose Coven. The Snow-Scaled as of now is either Nightscales or Duskscales. The Black Lotus itself will be a sort of joint branch with the Hoshigawan Circle, the Thorned Seekers remain as is, a branch of holy maidens. The Dusk Weavers as of now are labeled as the Nightwardens to fit their dark elven/Dracorith theme. And the Sunnarsthar shall get renamed, and will be one of the auxiliary branches of the Black Rose, whilst the Snow-Scaled are known as the Soltvia Host.
- Though for next week, I’ll definitely expand on the auxiliary branches, as it will mostly come up with the Dusk Weavers and the Wondrous Stag’s Coven.
- Progress wise, half done with the February, Valentine’s day story. Mostly done the beginning sections and the endings involving a little bit of rope, a little bit of tape, and a little bit of smut in one of the chapters.
- For a little bit of tease on the smut part: In terms of chapters, the first two end with guys getting bound and gagged, the third has two red-shirt in distresses. And the last one has one more GID.
- Anyway, that is all for this week. Next week, I shall focus on the Grauburgian and Maurnian Eminent Circle and Coven. Till then, take care and have a nice week folks!
