From Ash to Home — Character Preview

I’ve been posting chapters for From Ash To Home over the last few updates.
This is the first look at how the main characters are being visualized alongside the story—so if you’ve been reading, this should help put faces to the people at the center of it. If you haven’t, this is a starting point.
Aurelina, Kade, & Penelope — not by accident.
Their story doesn’t begin the same way for each of them.
Penelope is the first one Kade brings home—quiet, uncertain, and holding onto more than she says out loud. What begins there isn’t loud or dramatic. It’s small. Careful. Something that builds slowly, even when neither of them fully understands it yet.
Aurelina comes later, and nothing about her is as simple. She’s been holding things together long before Kade was ever involved—strong where she needs to be, steady for Penelope’s sake—but that strength isn’t as solid as it looks. Once she’s pulled into the same space, the balance between all three of them starts to shift.
What forms between them isn’t instant, and it isn’t clean. It’s layered—built out of tension, dependence, trust, and the slow realization that none of them are walking away from it.
That’s where From Ash To Home really begins.
Kade — the center of the bond, whether he meant to be or not.
Kade isn’t just a point of view—he’s the constant everything else starts to move around.
He doesn’t force anything into place. He doesn’t need to. What he offers is stability—something solid enough that people begin to lean on it before they realize they are.
By the time it matters, he’s already carrying more than he meant to. Not because he was asked to—but because he chose not to walk away.
That choice is what defines him. And it’s what makes it impossible for either of them to ignore him.
Penelope — the first girl Kade brings home, and where everything quietly begins.
Penelope is where the story actually starts.
She’s quieter, softer, and far more affected by everything than she lets on—but she’s also the one who opens the door to all of it. Her connection to Kade forms first, and even when it’s uncertain or fragile, it’s real enough to pull everything else into motion.
She doesn’t push for anything. She doesn’t need to.
Just being there changes what happens next.
Aurelina — the one who holds everything together… until she doesn’t.
Aurelina has spent most of her life being the one who holds everything together.
She’s stronger than Penelope, more guarded, and far more aware of what things cost—but that strength was built out of necessity, not comfort. It’s control, not ease.
Around Kade, that control starts to slip. Not all at once, and not easily—but enough to reveal what’s been underneath it the whole time.
She isn’t the first to trust him.
But when she does, it changes the shape of everything.
This is where From Ash To Home begins.
The rest isn’t clean. It isn’t simple.
But it’s theirs.
