Vela and Issa - Christmas 2018

Merry Christmas and happy holidays! It's a twofer this year, both Vela and Issa here to spread some cheer. Sadly, there's still only one candy cane to enjoy, but happily, neither Vela nor Issa mind a bit of sharing and caring. How nice of them!

I hope you all have, and are having, a wonderful season! It's been a rough year for a lot of people, but I'd like to think that the holidays still hold at least some small amount of magic, a little bit of happiness and warmth for everyone. Speaking of, I'm very happy to have finished this a day early for a change, and I'm looking forward to the warmth of my bed now that it's done... ^_^

Hinako (profile update 2018)

Another character updated! It's Hinako's turn this time around, one of those characters of mine that actually hasn't been seen much, if at all. Relatively subtle updating, as usual, though a bit more in-depth this time around: beyond my standard body tweaks and head size to bring her up-to-date with my current usual, she gained a bit of muscle definition (though it's still real subtle) and a bit of sunburn on her shoulders and arms, to help illustrate her affinity for hiking through the jungles in Paeratopa.

This would usually be the spot where I copy+paste her old bio, but it's kinda outdated by this point. And, well, it's on Tumblr and it got flagged and I don't know how to dig it up again. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So, in summary! Hinako isn't normally giantess-sized, but as a Paeran with enlarging abilities, she makes regular use of her powers to grow and stroll through the expansive jungles at her new size. Partly as a bit of patrolling, but also partly because it's a good way for her to find snacks; whether those snacks come from adventurers she finds camping out (she loves campside foods, like sausages and stews and s'mores and the like), or whether those adventurers are the snacks. She does try not to overindulge on the latter though. ^

Outside of her giant-sized adventures, she's otherwise pretty down-to-earth. Friendly, relaxed, a good guide to have if you're in need of traversing the jungles, a bit concerning to be around when she's feeling peckish.

Update - December 2018

Running a little late on this one! I've been going slow for most of the year, honestly (pretty sure I've already said as much). But there's some bigger updates to share now as well, and I'm hoping to end the year on a high note.

Has it really been a whole year, already? Not gonna miss this one, to be honest.

First things first! I've briefly mentioned this on Twitter and in Discord, but I recently took from my saved up funds and went out and bought an iPad Pro + pencil, for art purposes. It's taking a lot of getting used to (first time using/owning an Apple device, and gotta say, iOS is a huge pain to work with, haha), but I've been slowly practicing and doodling with it! And in contrast with my iOS woes, Procreate has been an absolute joy of an app to draw in. Not a problem in sight.

My doodle experiments have mostly been mawshots so far - it's my most comfortable drawing subject - but I'm hoping this will be a help in opening myself to a wider variety of work styles. 3D is and will still be my "main" medium, but there are a lot of things I simply can't manage in 3D, things that would be a cakewalk if only I was more practiced in drawing. So do look forward to seeing some doodles and drawings and maybe even paintings start mixing-in. Paeratopa landscapes are something I've always wanted to explore!

Back to the subject of 3D work, I'm stalled out on a few projects at the moment, but looking to kick that back into gear with the next opportunity I can. The holidays are getting underway already, and I'd like to finish at least something small, something simple. A few initial ideas have gotten a bit too complex, but I think I have some fresh plans that will work a bit better, and if all else fails, candy canes and licking is a tried-and-true choice for a scene. ^

I'll have to write another post to wrap up the year, but I want to take the moment now to just thank everyone who's supported me throughout, who's stuck with things even though I've been slow and even skipped some months! I'm trying to put out at least one picture a month, but it's been a strange challenge and I haven't kept up with it how I'd like. Heck, I'd hoped to be doing pictures 3-4 per month, and I'm nowhere near to that.

I have high hopes as I move forward, though. The world has been getting tougher to navigate, and that just makes me all the more determined to make things work, and as a content creator, to provide enjoyment where I can. I'm not meeting my own standards right now, but I hope I am at the least still providing something of value to you all.

Vela (character profile)

Part two of that pair of characters, this is Vela! Part elf and faerie, of the Paeran variety, Vela and Issa both roam and explore the wilds outside of the city together, deterring dangers, patrolling for oddities, and naturally indulging every so often on the would-be adventurers they come across in their wanderings. :D'

In contrast to Issa's quieter nature, Vela is talkative, excessively so at times. She takes particular interest in the subject of language, of words and wordplay... swear words especially, she does keep it in moderation but she absolutely loves collecting the myriad of different profanities the human races have come up with. Besides this, she's just as much a tease as Issa, the two of them making a potent duo when good targets present themselves.

I'll have to explore the rough story prompt I'd had for these two, later. A bit of a teaser I can give is that it is/would be centered upon a human character, a rather small mage girl trying to come to grips with the far wilder and more dangerous magics of Paeratopa. A rather volatile undertaking, given that something as "simple" as conjuring a ball of fire may just as easily turn to a self-destructive explosion. Nothing quite so dangerous as to constitute a threat to the city itself, but enough still to draw both Vela and Issa's attentions, much to this hapless mage's dismay...
