Report on the Company of the Ruby Red Table
Second amongst the Heleionian Grand Guilds in age, is the Company of the Ruby Red Table. Though they themselves consider their origins preceding that of the Aeternus Association by a few years. Its origins lie with a man named Arthur Red, whose family name comes from their ownership of Avalon’s ruby mines in the central mountainous regions of the main island. They also established numerous workshops responsible for refining, and later adorning the panoplies of Avalon’s Knighthoods and royal armies.
And of course, their wealth also came from being the sole provider of ruby accessories worn by the Imperial Family up until their extinction.
As the other Grand Guilds had done, they too expanded their industries, bought up lands across the kingdom and its colonies; subsidized arm manufacturing companies, and even broke into the fashion industry of the isles during the reign of King Edward the XIII. Though, they had not ascended to the status of a Grand Guild until the 18th Year of the Neo-Dawn Era. As last expansion, they utilized their wealth amassed through centuries to buy up all the architectural firms, and began the reconstruction of bombarded cities; whilst the other half of it went to ‘sponsor’ the Ruby Legion that gobbled up three others after the Treaties of Arghorion.
Their name comes from two sources. It was in his twilight years when Arthur established the millennia old deal with the Imperial Family, resulting in Arthur Red becoming Arthur Rubinus, a family name his descendants still put to use. The second came from the fancies of his descendants, Tristan Rubinus who had a great interest in antique fables of Avalon. Namely the ancient Fae-Knights of the Nonagonal Table, who battled an evil sorceress hellbent on establishing her own wicked dynasty.
An interest that later even led to revisions to this tale. The more prominent being this marble table of nine corners being painted the red of rubies. Though since then, there are some versions that keep it black as onyx, but in its center, the symbol of the Sun made out of rubies. A lesser-known change is that the witch is now associated with a former member of the Snow-Scaled Circle. Though we found no reference of her ever having such ambitions, nor she ever raided the shores of the Albion Isles. (Guess they were a little unhappy with our efforts at Ludlond).
Their tendrils also slither towards the Crescent and the Tear since the 200s of NDE. In Baaneath and Anwon, they established their own private mercenary company protecting their interests; sponsor various warlords and even wormed their way into the black market. Thieves, assassins whose allegiance is only to the higher bidder now serve as their eyes and ears. At least where the Umbral Archons can’t act.
News and Commentary:
- And another week goes by. Somewhat more progressive. Slowly finishing Lies Weeping of the Black Company series, and whilst no new DID situation came up (though one of the current annalists did end up bound and gagged), it is one I highly recommend even if it meanders at the beginning. But now, some additions, expanding commentary and news time.
- The Company of the Ruby Red Table, the first to get some lore drops out from the Grand Guilds of Heleion. Primarily because they feature in this month’s story to some extent. Mainly, one member leading one of their mercenary companies of Baaneath folk. Though at first, I was planning to have the Aeternus Association feature first, and I don’t really remember why I went with the Avalonian Grand Guild. My sole guess was I working on them, at the same time as outlining, and I slipped and went with it.
- Their inspiration and top structure will mimic the Knights of the Round Table–and this just came up as I am writing this–, including board members required to serve in Avalon’s royal knighthood before they can be ‘promoted’. Maybe will even have a traitor when the inevitable next war erupts between the Grand Guild led nations and the Eminent Coven/Circle led ones.
- Also, whilst they have control over the Ruby Legion, they also have their own Knight Order, that is their private military force in Avalon and Heleion. Which was also a recent addition, and makes me a little frustrated that I did not come up with earlier, as I could have featured one member in the April story.
- Uniform wise, they also mostly wear PNCs and sorcerous leather produced by their fashion subsidiaries. Though limited only to their boots, gloves and jackets/coats.
- And that is all for the additional commentary on the Company of the Ruby Red Table. Still a bit light on them, and the other Grand Guilds. They won’t feature much yet, as they will be the antagonistic force of the Second Great War storyline.
- Progress wise, I am doing the final touches of the May story. Some last-minute grammar corrections, rewriting some sentences my dyslexic mind is not happy with. And adding a few more mentions to two characters. One I name, Skjaldmaerith Sebire, who I decided to elevate to the rank of a possible returning character/protagonist. Will be more an action oriented protagonist, who will return on occasion in the various War Tales/Records of War stories, and will have a major role in the Second Great War storyline, where she may end up getting a promotion to Thegrith.
- Done some outlining too. Began the early works on the June story featuring Rhommi, the Godkynd Thief in shiny ‘latex’ and her loyal, amorphous pet slime. Set also in the mid-1000s of NDE, on a colony used as hunting resort for the wealthy. And managed, ‘owned’ by the Empire of Kesothis and the Nairenthian Triarchy. So the lucky Red Shirts in distress will be a bit more varied, featuring mostly Snow-Scaled Host and Sakhrath-Ib-Anath Shuffai and Vordriarhs. And one or two of their pure spellcasting castes.
- As of now, I’m planning it to be a two- or three-chapter length story. Though I am thinking of adding in a Bound Diaries, in case it ends up being two chapters long (regardless of the length).
- Lastly, continuing on with the revision, finished the outlining of the fifth chapter. Three more remains by my not so perfect calculations. Will see. Also made some changes to one character, who appeared in the penultimate chapter. Hersith Aurea got another name change. Who I really want to feature more, but fitting Hersiths into short stories is a challenge in itself. Though she may get the Bound Diaries of June (If I do it).
- And that is all for this week. Thank you for reading my ramblings. Till the next one, take care folks!
