The Common Field Uniform of the Mothui-Caste: Excerpt from the Vogue of the Sakhrath-Ib-Anath
Like the Northern and Eastern Castes, so do the Mothui sport uniforms that are both chic, but exude the grace of ancient warriors, soldiers of Kesothis. [Note from editor: Realign them, match the head-to-toe scheme.]
Headwear is the most varied of their wardrobe. Hijabs neatly wrapped about their heads, often paired with either a golden Anathrian Mask, or just opt to wear a Niqab with often instilled with an eye-protection spell against the elements of stormy deserts in the south. Those in the less harsh environments on the other hand seem to prefer less covering headwear. These include the berets and wide-brimmed conical hats that grew in popularity during the Great war, enchanted tiaras once popular amongst sorceresses of the olden days, battle- or magus-crowns that feature bold horns, set with precious gems infused with protective spells.
The common Mothui coat follows the same principles as their fellow coven and circle brethren north, west and east. A layered design and structured silhouette. Manifested in an overlapping panel at the front, fairly similar to the kimono-coats of the Lunate Circle, though retains the appearance of the desert-dweller’s robes. Atop, a circular collar of ample space, fashioned after the bundles of shawls usually wrapped around the necks of voyagers in the deserts. From its baseline, comes the decorative cloak, though this one can be retraced into the sorcerous seaming. It drapes over the shoulders, which themselves were designed in the likeness of ancient southern pauldrons, shoulder plates. They flare out, and their edges curve upward, attempting a crescent’s outline very vaguely.
Sleeves themselves are nothing outstanding. Long, adjustable though, their cuffs flared and folded back, revealing the inner lining. Which usually is the fabric of their shirts and cloth-based headwear. Be it silk or velvet or satin or sateen cotton of a sorcerous nature. And their red shade of vermillion. The hem itself stretches over their thighs, with a perfectly symmetrical round shape. At the waist, the wearer’s form is highlighted by a belt of plate-closure, bearing the mark of the Sakhrath-Ib-Anath (The Arcane-Eye of the Djinnui’s peculiar shape and extension, with additional streaks creating a gust effect). Usually, golden.
Alongside these features, pockets have been placed at the breast and abdomen’s levels, hidden though from personal experience, I can confirm that the wearers can sense them. They are quite deep, spacious, capable of holding up to 15 small objects.
Underneath the coat, they all wear a corset of double closure. A wrap giving it a flowing look, and six slim straps to fasten and highlight the leaned, toned forms of the soldiers.
Lastly before we move further into the nether regions, a button-down style shirt, with sleeves of adjustable length, usually with elegant, buttoned cuffs, closure hidden beneath a concealing panel, structured fit, padded shoulders for a stiff, militant look, and collars fitted around the neck, framing the face. Usually tied with a slim, silky shawl-tie coiled beneath the folded down wings.
For legwear, they either opt for tight-fitting trousers with velvety stripe trailing around starting from the hips. Or a long pencil skirt with vented sides. Worn only for ceremonial occasions or during garrison duty. Their boots on the other hand differ from most covens, match with the circles. Usually knee-length, with the top rim turned over, heel even with the sole, whilst the toe is slightly pointy, the tapering end curved a little upwards.
For underwear, they wear panties and bras usually made of sorcerous leather, usually with a soothing cold silky inner lining.
Fabrics Used:
- Sorcerous Leathers: Used primarily for their outerwear (coats, skirts, trousers, corsets, boots, and gloves), their beret’s rims, their conical hats and their underwear.
- Sorcerous Silk/Velvet/Satin/Sateen Cottons: Used primarily for their shirts, their cloth-based headwear, the inner lining of their coats, trousers, boots and gloves.
Commentary and Updates:
- And back after a holiday break. This was a hectic week, though sadly not fully in terms of writing, outlining and such. Usually not much on sharing much personal stuff besides what I may read and some general things. But just as a heads up for future weekly updates, my grandma got into hospital and won’t make it. So, for the next month or two, weekly updates may get a bit shorter.
- On a somewhat more positive note, also been reading a bit more, and that slackened my writing pace a little. Namely Black Company by Glen Cook, that I really enjoyed, and got mildly surprised at the amounts of DID (though some of them do include some guys, or just outright guys). Still, did progress with the may story, expanding sections, editing and what not.
- But first, some additions to the Worldbuilding section. Was thinking of also including colors for the outerwear, but for the Sakhrath-Ib-Anath, it varies between the various branches. For this month’s story, the Yagmaedh-Ib-Anath uses sable black with gold accents for decoration. For the Cachuil-Uth-Muhafirah, gold will be their primary color, with either black accents, or was thinking of blue, maybe prismatic to tie them close to the Witch-Empress.
- Likewise, fabrics I opted out from naming any further. Leather, they will continue relying on their own, but will adapt using Dragonidh Leather, possibly even by the time of the June story. With a variant, that produces a slightly different iridescent sheen from the Black Roses’ trifecta.
- Turbans are included amongst their headwear, alongside a few others. Not fully decided on a few things yet, so just left them out. The same is true for gloves and boots. Some also use cravats, but shawl-ties are the predominant of the neckties.
- Now on progress.
- May story as mentioned, half finished. Scaled it down a bit. Originally planned three chapters, with each consisting three short tales themselves. But by the first, it got long, so decided to just go with four. And have some recurring and returning characters. For example, a Skjaldmaerith who shall be a major character in the Second Great War plotline. An Astrydril, minus less skulking around on her part.
- Also proceeded onwards with the Revision of the Shadows Over the Academy story (for August), and I am not sure if I have mentioned or not, but likewise scaled down the story a bit. At least in chapters’ numbers. The original fourth and fifth became one. Also, will do some additional editing as Astrydril changed in a minor way since the last update. Namely, she has homophobia.
- Vicious Cycles outlining continued too, started working on the plot, how it unfolds, premise and so on. Mostly just threw an idea of a timeline together.
- And did some preliminary work on the Juno story. Originally, here too I planned two separate stories featuring Rhommi and her slime pet. One on a space-station with Snow-Scaled Circle and Cachuil-Uth-Muhafirah as guards. The other, set on a Void-Between-Worlds colony, with ‘alien’ amazonians integrated into Thulyandiv’s society. But decided to put the second for next year, or after that. For now, the June batch will be one story of three- or four-chapter’s length,
- And that is all for this week. Thank you for reading my ramblings. Till the next one, take care and have a fine week.
