Excerpts from the Heim-Vogue Magazine’s Article about the Militant Fashion of Eminent Circles and Covens: The Sorcerous Fibers.
Foreword: This is a refreshener for the true culinaries of Thulyandiv’s fashion, and a short lesson for the novices. We all heard or seen about the terms: Sorcerous Fibers, Arcane-Threads, Enchanted Textiles. But what are they really? Well, the answer is quite simple. These are silks, cottons, wools, and even leather produced by the Oathbound Guilds and Grand Guilds of Thulyandiv. Though the process in the past took considerable time, involved rituals and long hours over cauldrons of questionable liquids created through alchemy, since the Magikraft Revolution, the process shortened considerably.
Now, every citizen of Thulyandiv wears a set of clothing made from these myriad sorcerous fibers.
What purpose do sorcerous fibers have in what we wear? The short and simple answer, to protect us against the elements. The long as always is complicated. Depends on the grades, the usage of these sorcerous fibers.
The every day folk of any nation wears the lowest grade, the Common Grade. Clothes with simple alterations. Like a linen or cotton piece that offers the same warmth as lambskin or wool. Or a simple leather coat imbued with a cantrip level spell allowing better communication, understanding with one’s cattle or shepherding hounds. Or with just a simple rejuvenating spell to help get through the day.
Adventurers, seekers, nobles often found wearing what you may have hear someone call Noble-Grade. A term that came to be in the ancient times, designating clothing worn by our royalty and nobles, usually worn for battle. Fabrics that durability varies, as much as the amount of enchantments that can be woven into them. To this day, nobles, seekers and adventurers predominantly kit themselves in such clothing.
Eminent-Grade is one you would expect to be rare. But quite the contrary, it is as widespread as Common-Grade. Thanks in great part that the designation was penned by the Snow-Scaled Circle to differentiate their sturdy Beornid Leather from the rest. This grade includes all the fabulous fibers created by the Eminent Circles and Covens, and the Grand Guilds. Fibers that vary not just by how sturdy, how much their heighten one’s power and senses, but also have a chimera-tendency. Like silks with the firm drape of Broadcloths, Leathers as supple and fluid as silks, in addition of other visible mutations.
Now, without further ado, let’s move on to the first and most well-known of these sorcerous fabrics:
Dragonidh Leather: The finest of elven leathers, made by the Black Rose herself long centuries ago. Though for a long time, her robe was the sole piece possessing an unfluctuating, perfectly smooth texture. Still, nobles, queens and kings chose dragonidh leather as both their ceremonial and field uniform.
- Visual Traits: A fluid, body-hugging drape in its natural state; supple, unfluctuating smooth texture and a rich, glossy sheen that absorbs and reflects light at the same time, creates a subtle iridescence of blues, purples and silvers (thanks to the Onyx-Ooze membrane), called the Liquescent Onyx Luster.
- Arcane Qualities: Increases the inner mana of the wearer, strengthens the arcane organs. Improves the sense of smell and sight. Easily enchantable and moldable post production. Able to withstand several strikes from the highest-grade metals, magic and acid resistant.
- Worn by: The Black Rose Coven, the inventors; the Dusk Weaver Coven of Wyruthrin; The Nachfrar Circle of the Adamant Circle of the Seven, and some of the lesser branches of the other Eminent Circles and Covens.
Auvhierna (Sateen) Cotton: A sateen-weave cotton produced jointly by the Black Rose Coven and the Adamant Circle of the Seven, invented in the 1976th year of the Second Era of Mending.
- Visual Traits: A modest, structured drape that hugs the body, highlights its silhouette. Its texture smooth as the finest of alloys produced by the best smiths of Naireanth and Grauburg, whilst still possessing a distinct, silky suppleness and a metallic rich gloss. On top of a rich, vibrant palette finish.
- Arcane Qualities: Similarly to Dragonidh Leather, it increases once magical Talent, whilst also possessing the strength of mithril or orichalcum (dependent on the Auvhierna Cotton variant). Though it is relatively fire and acid resistant, it is nowhere near close to Dragonidh Leather. Still, a great protective piece we recommend for adventurers and seekers. Easy to enchant too, and can hold at least 20 spells, usually including a temperature conditioning spell to keep one warm in frigid wastes, cool under the blistering sun whilst lost in the desert. Or with spell keeping hunger and thirst at bay for several days.
- Worn by: Black Rose Coven and the Adamant Circle of the Seven use it primarily, alternating between their other silks, velvets. Also used by some smaller branches of the Sakhrath-Ib-Anath and the Wondrous Coven of the Silvern Stag.
News and Commentary:
- Another week done. The third tale of Thulyandiv finished, alongside the second chapter of the revision of the Shadows Over the Academy Story.
- Still, some expansion on this week’s worldbuilding section: First things first, it got a bit messy, because up until Saturday, I wasn’t sure what to write about. Wanted to wait with the March story notes, and whilst made some further notes and alterations regarding the timeline, and how the world will evolve after the Neo-Dawn Era, did not want to yet expand on the Grand Guilds. Nor on the other Eminent Covens/Circles.
- So, went with the Fibers. Previously known as Arcane-Leather/Silks/andsonsoforth. Beyond this change, another I made and will be ‘exercised’ (for a lack of a better word) in the second March story, and in the April story. Namely, that Leather is one of the most commonly used outerwear fabric used in the world of Thulyandiv. My primary justification besides fetish, is that they succeeded in ‘reawakening’ certain passive traits of magical beasts. Like Dragonidh Leather is as sturdy as a dragon’s scaled hide. The magic resistance mentioned is dependent though on the dragon hide used.
- Besides Leather, PNC is fairly common too since the discovery of Eoran. And maybe wool, cotton and silk is used to some extent for outerwear, but for the time being, they are relegated to shirts, tunics, headwear and lining.
- The other change is that fabrics now are shared between the factions. Though there are variations. The Dragonidh Leather of the Black Roses is more lustrous, whilst the Dusk Weaver’s maybe is a matte type/variant. It is a change I made to save some brainpower, but also to strengthen the cohesion of the Draunneath Circle and the Grand Guilds’ alliance.
- Now on progress: Working on the third march story, plan to finish it next week and will be in Early Access by Friday, hopefully. Mostly need to write a fight section, and last look at the damsel–or possible damsels–featured in the short story.
- April story, I finished its outlining, mostly. Some minor characters still need to be made up for the last two chapters. But began working on the first chapter. Doing it in small bits as it went through a few changes on how the events play out.
- Lastly, began outlining the end of the year story, mostly focused on the main characters. Namely Astrydril, Lyrei (whose name changes a little), Saemundur and the Yet-To-Be-Named main antagonist. Will be slow and steady with this. Focusing still a bit more on the revision story, as Astrydril is also going through some changes.
- But anyway, thank you for reading my ramblings. See you all next week. Probably still rambling about some of these Fibers, maybe include a bit expansion on one of the castes of the Eminent Covens/Circles.
