once shielding us from the summer heat,
now fallen,
leaving the sky open through the branches.
I walk softly upon the leave-littered concrete,
careful not to crunch,
out of respect for their work,
and admiration of their colors.
I gaze at the still stubborn trees with their multi-colored leaves,
wondering when those too will start to fall,
finally ending this majestic scenery.
And then I too wonder
how many more autumns will there be
to enjoy before I too must descend,
unknowing if I’ll ever return again.

Her morals and character slowly decline as she struggles to make the rent and support her children while the landlord plots on turning her into his personal whore, breaking her down both physically and psychologically until she only lives for pleasing him and his cock.

This was my first commission, and I touched on themes that I never have before. I think others would be too afraid to take that challenge, but I decided to do it to grow as a writer, and I believe I did, after nearly 13,000 words.
