From the Archives of Srathimor: Our Municipal Warrior Nobles, the Noble House of Le Fevre.
An ancient fae-blooded house of warriors and mages, whose origins lie in the northern subcontinent. Began as a small clan in the frigid peaks, north of Umbrillien. Even in those times, most archeological findings point to their hot-blooded nature, as Fae-Kynd of Summers. They battled and wiped-out numerous clans endowed by the Night and its tenebrous denizens. Were amongst the first who welcomed the imperials not with wide arms, but with blades and killing spells.
Which earned them the betrayal of those they considered friends or family. Betrayals that stung through the centuries, forced them south before the Liberation War.
No surprise it is, that they answered the call of former Regent-President Mahala first, became crucial members of the first guerillas. Then after our liberation earned, resumed their roles as nobles. Though were less than satisfied with the decision to let the Nairenthians keep the northern subcontinent. An opinion they no longer hold, after a contingent of Snow-Scaled and Black Roses drove out the Avalonians who nearly reached our city.
In recent times, Enored Le Fevre passed not too long ago. A beloved member of our community, a brave warrior who kept the tentacles of the cartels to slither into our city. Though he left behind a daughter as brave and bold as he was. May he dance free in the High Courts of Summer!
From the Great House of Criminal Records of Ardcuirt: The Cartel of Dusk and Darkness, the Oscurazon Cartel.
Like many of the cartels, their existence began the Second Era of Mending’s year of 1679, when a group of Esparnian merchants fled from their homeland after the widespan ban of slavery in the former Empire of Thulyandiv. In the central subcontinent, they started fresh, though like the others, remained in the business of kynd trafficking, alongside other illicit goods–stolen weapons, herbs and monster parts taken from adventurers they tricked or murdered in cold blood.
After the breakdown on the first of the cartels by imperial officials a decade after their ‘rebirth’, what we today know as the Oscurazon survived and decided to hide and reform in the shadows. They veered far from kynd-trafficking, but continued posing as brigands and adventurers. Both of which they still practice today, besides producing and selling highly addictive concoctions, crafting curses of the mind that are deceptive and harmful, not deadly but one wish they could perish instead of whatever fate awaits them after over-usage.
First of these addictive curses and concoctions they began producing a century or two before Nauheim and Heleion’s trouble with rogue witches and wizards. No one really knows whether disgraced alchemists, wizards and witches found a new home, a new family in these cartels. Or merely consuls’ greed grew and started investing in the cartels. But it led to their power growing exponentially, and said consuls and legates falling into their pockets too.
Then what made them different from the other cartels manifested during the Liberation War. When their assassins, their sicarios plunged their daggers into the necks and chests of consuls, tribunes, praefects and even a legate on the Eve of Scarlet Midnight. After the war, they even gobbled up the smaller band of assassins operating in Eoran, expanded overseas too from what our little alliance gathered.
The final change happened just a decade or two ago. Their leadership since the days of the first breakdown remained mostly unknown to the public, until rumors of a great change, a shift in leadership spread across every alley, every sewer, every rotten district of Eoran. Rumors of dark witches who sacrificed each in abyssal rituals; others speaking of bewitching necrolytes holding a ball of the restless dead including not just the heads, but their whole families.
In truth, they are just disgraced witches who escaped the justice of the Dusk Weavers and their grand princess. (At least I believe so).
News and Commentary:
  • And another week passes by. One where the progress was a bit slower on the editing phase. But more on that a bit later.
  • First just some commentary on lore/worldbuilding. Not much to add on the Le Fevre family, there will be some additional stuff in the short story itself. Some bit about the protagonist ancestor. But as mentioned before, Eoran is mostly Celtic inspired going forward. There will be some Spanish/Hispanic influences in the central subcontinent, like the cartels. Though not all of them.
  • Oscurazon is one that is Hispanic in its name, but technically has been taken over by a couple of dark elves, dracoriths and dwarves of Wyruthrin. As mentioned before in last year’s Passion Ride story. At least there will be one or two that has a Hispanic name, whilst the remaining four cartels will go by Celtic names. May even involve some Archfae worship, relation. That may also include the faceless assassins featured early on into the second iteration’s short life (I shamefully forgot their names).
  • But these parts still need some development, for the future storyline of Thulyandiv’s war on drugs and their underworld.
  • Now, progress-wise, I focused on finishing the three chapters of the Unearthing Legends story. Added in the three capture segments for the second one, with bondage a little less than I originally envisioned. Though overall there are quite a few sections in the story. What slowed me down was the small thing in regards of the Sakhrath-Ib-Anath uniforms. Namely the tiny thing of coat closure. Up until now, my brain always just defaulted to zippers, so wanted them to have those too, but also have wraparound coats. In the end, ditched that element, mentioned like twice or may be three times overall in a 9000 word document.
  • And whilst it is a tiny element of the world. Microscopic if I am being honest, I hope it helps for some future stories. Including the end of the year story, where the Lunate Circle will feature heavily, and they too have wraparound coats thanks to being Japanese and Korean inspired.
  • Beyond these edits, I continued the outlining of both the December and May story. For the Cabal story, focused mostly on the main cast, and the main setting. Namely whether I want a submarine station that is a research station of manufactured curses – mentioned here – or a submarine. Which I got a little writer’s block in regards of what to do with. My first idea for the antagonists was to be Yudao rebels who sneaked into Hoshigawa. Right now, they are more a rebel Samurai clan ‘tempted’ by the main Cabal Operative/Warlock of ….
  • The May story, the Records of War or War Tales mostly just reorganized and expanded the featured scenarios. In structure, it will be similar to the first one featured in August or July last year. Namely nine short tales involving fiend cultists, devils and demons of extreme lewdness. Will have some horror elements, as I decided to have some more eldritch or cenobite style devils and demons. Just to have a bit of variety to the damsel in distress sections. The hallowed wizards of the Thorned Seekers will also feature in one of these tales, after they got skipped in last August’s story.
  • Anyhow, next week’s update will include some lore elements from the last two March stories, namely some information on the Hidden Sects of the Nairenthian Eminent Circles/Covens. And possibly on lewd sorcery.
  • Till then, have a fine weekend folks!
