Syrup Town v7.1 Hotfixes

Hello all! Just a real quick followup, people found a number of bugs in v7 so I whipped up a quick bugfix patch which should hopefully fix all of them:

  • Fixed some characters like Riley having things like sp fashionista; in their dialogue
  • Fixed a bunch of bugs involving the preferences menu genderswapping characters
  • Fixed Mary-Lou appearing for carnivores
  • Fixed the easy mode button disappearing from the jiggy menu (I did have to move it to the bottom though)
  • Fixed a number of scenes like Bluebell's onahole and Riley's haircut scenes breaking and showing nothing
  • Properly named the images folder in the upgrade packs this time

As a reminder I will no longer be uploading the full PNG versions, they're getting too large for my awful speeds. The webp version of the game is still high quality and includes prompt keywords in the .txt files in the images folder.

Content:

  • New Character: Khanna, the Tiger Nun

  • Added a bunch of new Tellyvision commercials
  • New scenes for Jasper and Garnet
  • New Mimic encounters while digging
  • 40+ new jiggies available via digging
  • 3 full new outfits available via digging, with special collage jiggies for collecting them all
  • Replaced the old placeholder collectables with new ones (sex-able collectables will be coming later)

Other changes:

  • Added a quick shortcut to your last location in the morning.
  • Overhauled the player's expressions across all three skintones to make them more distinct.
  • Added category buttons to sort the jiggies.
  • Moved a number of the v6 jiggies into chests so you collect multiple at once.
  • Changed the collectables categories to "Fruit, Critters, and Treasures".
  • You can now actually collect the treasures obtained via digging.
  • You can now use fruit from the inventory directly to restore stamina.
  • All old placeholder items have been deleted.
  • Added a mailbox to the player's home, mostly for updates and news.

Bugfixes:

  • Several unobtainable jiggies such as Gobbo supremacy are now properly available.
  • Fixed a bug where Helena would appear on the carnivore route.
  • Fixed broken images in the fetish select menu.
  • Fixed getting the wrong items when starting a carnivore and vegetarian save.
  • Fixed the fetish menu breaking in the collection room.
  • Fixed Riley showing his haircut scenes even if you haven't triggered their starting event.

Upcoming:

  • Sorbet, Sharly, and Nutmeg & Cinnamon are the last characters who need model updates.
  • Re-checking the color sets for clothing.
  • Adding the Plap Pal cards to the game proper.
  • Getting invited to Marlow's and Khanna's homes.
  • Foxes double blowjob scene.
  • Monster fucker license.
  • Rewriting logbooks

Khanna was a shockingly difficult character to write. Sometimes I get by on the seat of my pants, some characters were even first draft and then done, but I just wasn't satisfied somehow. In the end even though I didn't go the exact way I planned I really feel like I cooked with her, though I'm very interested to know what you all think!

This update also includes the WIP version of my prompt generator in the Technology wing of the museum, the goal there as I brought up before is to make it easier to get into generating images. There's still an absolute ton of work to do, but at least working on it also makes my own generations faster!

Speaking of, jiggies! Lots of subscribers sent in tons of requests and I had a blast doing them, and I'll be continuing to make more. Other changes:

  • New character models and expressions for Cayenne and Riley
  • New preferences menu added in the settings, currently allows you to toggle vegetarian/carnivore modes, and separates carnivore mode so people who don't like femboys can still have dickgirls
  • Added selectors for the system character genders to the new preferences menu
  • Music and sound now use volume sliders instead of buttons

Fixes:

  • Changed the app logo to ST instead of the old SV
  • Fixed Helena's logbook checking the wrong character

Known issues:

  • Toggling feral content in the preferences currently does nothing, since it's meant to work with the new cards I haven't implemented yet.
  • Some content (like the foxes) is still reliant on carnivore/vegetarian mode, instead of the more specfic fetish toggles in the preferences menu. I'll need to rewrite the scenes which use those checks for v6.

This update ended up being way more veggie-heavy than expected due to Mary-Lou. Because adding the pregnancy-focused character without any pregnancy content would have been very silly, I completed not only her intro but all the way to being invited to her house.

There's a ton of areas where I've started dabbling, but am not far enough in that I can actually add content. So:

Upcoming content:

  • Bluebell needs a new model the most of the remaining old model cast, so she'll probably be one of the main characters of v6.
  • The new cards and card system need more work, so I reverted back to the old Pocketmanz cards. All the new palcards are in the game files in the neocards folder in the images.
  • I want to have future Helena scenes take place on a second tour of the town, but that's a fair bit of work to actually fill out what you'll do when touring around with her. So she's got a few scenes waiting for me to implement them.
  • I worked up a prototype of the digging minigame from pokemon gen 4 and have been brainstorming exactly what to have you find in them:

  • Aranom from the discord was playing with Wan2.1, an image-to-video model some Syrup Town scenes a shot. They posted their workflow so if I can get it working myself maybe animating the game is in the cards? Especially since Wan2.2 just released, here's two of the shots they posted:
  • I made it for myself to avoid all the lag on mobile when trying to use Stable Diffusion over a network, so I made my own UI to bypass needing to use Gradio:

And all this in addition to all the other things on my to-do list, hoo boy! Lots to do, lots to do! I don't have a lot of experience writing pregnancy, so please feel free to give suggestions for Mary-Lou scenes.

Riley's new content is a pretty good example of how characters will get new content, a short sidequest full of nonlinear scenes. And finally, I wanted to put the new morning scenes into the gallery but given they're very short, only appear randomly, and I may make the hot morning ones only appear in the summer and do seasonal stuff, I kept them out of it. If you'd prefer I do something different with them, lemme know!

As always, I recommend the .webp version of the others, there's no noticable quality drop I can see and it's like 1/3rd the size.

  • Added a new Tan skintone that looks closer to the old dark skintone.
  • Added items to Bluebell's store that let you change your skintone and bodytype.
  • Replaced Mary-Lou's magazine to reflect her upcoming design.

Bugfixes:

  • Fixed an issue where the png and webp versions weren't loading the other formats as backups.
  • Fixed an issue where a number of trophies were missing images.
  • Fixed a number of clothes that didn't fit on the female model.
  • Fixed a large number of mobile styling issues.
  • Fixed a number of bad images and typos.

    I was so close to releasing this in May! The update's probably still buggy, but I hope doing some polishing of the mobile version was worth it for a less buggy release.

I mentioned it last time but the expression sets are waaaaay more time consuming than I expected. It could mean that the non-furry version will have to wait a bit longer, or I could not include outfits for its first release. Only Angelica and Helena have new models at the moment, but for v5 I plan on updating Bluebell, Cayenne, Sharly, and Mary-Lou for sure.

I also wanted to add proper tarot readings using all of Sharly's new cards, but that'll have to wait for a future update. Angelica and Helena were both pretty mechanically complex characters.

Angelica's content continues exactly where she left off. Each day her lust will passively increase, and talking to her while it's maxed will lead to a scene. Otherwise, she'll give one of her non-horny chats.

Helena takes you on a tour of the town. You get scenes over time when getting the tour / gathering things with her, but to actually progress you need to tour the forest orchard and get that special scene.

Though, new characters are usually a lot more work than adding to an existing character...

However there's a few things extra I haven't put on that list yet:

  • Making different skintone variants for all the images with disembodied hands/crotch pov
  • Adding text to all the game's repeatable scenes
  • Rewriting the logbook to be less vague and more accurately reflect the progression of each character
  • More jiggies

New Content

  • The Quinn Massage Parlor arc continues, ending with you overcoming his final challenge, sorry the scene is so long, I split it into 3 parts for easier review
  • Added a full B-route to the quinn massage parlor, where you refuse to bring in anyone to his parlor, and instead have his own attendants do the breaking for you. This adds a new scene for each of them and still unlocks the original A-route scenes with some text differences
  • Dahlia returns after her stay at the parlor, with a new scene and her old placeholder status quo replaced
  • Added 8 new scenes with the gyaru trio Ginger, Goldie, and Raven, 3 on the rooftop and the remaining 5 at night.

Other changes

  • Removed the text and sound effects from that one Abba kneeling image
  • Added a memorial hall to the school entrance to the patrons since my patreon page went down, along with a subscriber plaque as well (I copied Syrup Town's code)
  • Added a chunky's meal to reset Quinn so you can do alternate route stuff/bring other people

Bugfixes

  • Fixed Gekka and Eva appearing in versions they shouldn't
  • Fixed the broken alternate styles on the mobile client
  • Fixed a bunch of typos and misgenderings
  • Fixed a bug preventing you from getting Saffron's completion text
  • Installing the .apk will no longer overwrite syrup town's installation (dear god was this a rabbit hole)

Thoughts & Ramblings

Geez louise I'm really sorry this took so long. This update was meant to be a short wait, I was even hoping to do a release on the same month as the last syrup update, but med shortages, exhausting IRL stuff, and my brain not wanting to stop hyperfixating on syrup, and the months just flew by...

Meds aside, Quinn and the trio were honestly really bad choices to focus on for the update, as they are some of the hardest characters to work with. I very rarely need to do multiple drafts of the core concept of a character, but Quinn just never satisfied me. Going for a supernatural angle, making him super arrogant, I bounced around a lot and it didn't help that his image set is really limiting. There's a ton on the cutting room floor for him.

And the gyaru trio were really hard to do as well. Their initial plan was to at some point add a prostutution mechanic. You'd enable a toggle and then get random morning/night scenes of them streetwalking/whoring, and you'd get some free money. Those scenes would progress the popularity score, but if you didn't wanna do them you could just do repeat scenes and get enough points that way, but...

Is that fun? Players certainly don't need money anymore, there'd basically be nothing to write, and alone the trio lose their ed edd & eddy dynamic

It felt really weird to just drop what was originally planned as their main thing, but it'd be 10x weirder to invest time into a mechanically complex thing I have absolutely no love for. Especially when I could instead write syrup, or rainy, or even just add chat scenes with the trio just chillin'. But that also means that their image set held them back a lot, since really the only images I had left to use were the ones I had initially planned to use in prostitution. That, plus the disguises, hoo-ee...

And maybe I'm spoiled by syrup, but man I wish I could have cut away for a shot to show the two other girls making out or something, or do another angle to spice up the scene. I really like the control syrup gives me. Here's an example of a new Raven scene compared to a syrup town scene I finished the other day:

Really though, the delay is because I wanted this update to feel great because of how long it took, and those higher standards left me totally blanking on what to do, and eventually I just decided to get it done no matter what. Sorry if the update isn't as big or as good as you hoped.

Important Notice regarding AI

So, as I brought up before (several months ago goodness gracious...) I used generative AI to alter (though mostly uncensor) multiple shots in Quinn's storyline. I didn't have a chance to use most of the images I worked on though as after I hit that finale point I immediately shifted to working on the gyaru trio, and the image I used as an example didn't make the cut. Here it is though:

It's probably the most extreme change, though, mostly it's just uncensoring.

While I do work on games that have AI content, I don't plan on making Hentai University an AI-centric game. I'm still trying to find a good way to allow all of the uncensorings to be opt-in since I know a lot of people don't want any AI at all. If it makes you feel ick I encourage you to support the artists directly instead of me, there's links to their pixivs and dlsites in the logbook. Still, I'm not sure what to do here. I thought about some kind of toggle that uses the original censored versions as backups, but that'd potentially double the game's filesize, and I can't really offer a downloadable file replacement for an apk version. Plus, what about images like the above? Do I use the original ugly bastard image or do I manually censor the version I had the AI make?

I don't blame anyone who hates AI at this point, I really wish the situation around it weren't so heated, I just want to make porn... Really, I'd rather make a whole new game, maybe a Hentai University 2 or a spiritual sucessor if I wanted to lean into AI content. Not just because HU's engine is showing its age, but also so that people don't get gangboarded into a game they like suddenly being associated with something they don't. Maybe I'm overthinking this, I'm so tired...

Speaking of, because this update took me so much longer and it was so much harder to get myself in the groove than expected, I think I should def focus more in on syrup town and not try to juggle two games for at least a little while. But I don't want to leave hentai university fans dry, and most of the feedback I've gotten is that many university players don't mesh well with syrup's visuals even in the non-furry mode. While I like shortstacks, the whole point of the mode was to try and offer something to peeps who don't vibe with syrup as a fluffy animal paradise.

Potential Syrup Town Artstyle Rework?

It'd be a huge worry off my mind if I could still offer fun gaem to hentai university fans without needing to keep adding to the older engine, and hentai university 2 would be a pretty massive undertaking. Maybe going for taller character designs with a less cartoony artstyle would help university fans transition better to syrup town enjoyers?

The original images didn't include any ears or tails, so I've actually been thinking about redoing them for a while now, but it seemed like way too much work for such a little change.

But, even if this is the plan, there are lots of challenges beyond just "generate taller":

  • Finding a workflow to getting the images tall enough to have their full body standing without sacrificing face detail, like some kind of outpainting to draw the legs and feet separately, otherwise the faces will be too small to be expressive
  • Upscaling the standing shots without the weird resolution messing things up
  • Making normal proportioned characters look nice when my default style is shortstack/chibi
  • How should I handle extra ears? Especially on Helena and the foxes, who have super short hair. They look weird with a smooth side of the head where her ears should be.

I generated a few others in the same style as above so I'd be able to workshop ideas with you all:

v33 was pretty exhausting to work on and despite how silly it sounds, I actually found it relaxing to take breaks from working on HU by working on syrup town instead. The games are, tonally, similar enough that if you like HU you'll probably like syrup, so I think the big turnaway is the art style?

[Release] [Syrup Town] - Syrup Town v2.5

Here it is! Sorry I suddenly vanished, I finished the non-furry images all the way back on the tenth and had them up on the PTR for testing and then got inspired to write some extra scenes, but then suddenly got really sick.

Usually the .5 updates are just for adding non-furry images and maybe some bugfixes, but this time I decided to include new content for both the furry and non-furry versions. This turned out to be more work than I planned, mostly due to my really slow upload speeds combined with finding a bug meaning I had to remove it all and re-upload it. And at 500 kilobytes a second the 9 gig files would take around 5 hours to upload, meaning I had plenty of time to wait or search for more bugs.

There's a lot of links to juggle this time so please bear with me. If you're wondering which are the best versions to play, I recommend either playing online or using the Dual v2.5 WEBP version. In general I recommend using the webp version, I don't personally see a quality difference and the filesize is much lower.

New Content:

  • Added new costumes for the entire cast for both furry and non-furry versions, each costume has a full expression set.
  • Added a non-furry set of tarot cards for the non-furry version of the game.
  • Added 1 new morning scene for Riley, Sorbet, and Sharly. Each triggering after becoming friends with them.
  • Added a new repeatable scene for Sorbet.
  • Added non-furry images for all of the v2 content and the bonus scenes above.

Other changes:

  • Goodra is now a card found in lavender lane, the flashing merchant now sells you a set of three new vertical cards
  • Added new random jiggy options if you've completed all jiggies or have the "even the funko pops" cheat enabled.
  • Added a second chance to start collecting the cards in Sharly's house if you chose to discard the tarot card.
  • Fixed a few weird images found by Kyupon like the fem fairy scene.
  • The museum now checks if you've ever had an item, rather than if you currently have it in your inventory.
  • Added a sell-all function to Bluebell's shop.
  • Angelica is now visibly excited when you've met her progression requirements.
  • Added a new type of pocketman frame used for the new pocketmanz cards.
  • Added code to automatically replace <3 in text with a heart.
  • Replaced the old pog-coin tails sides to match the new SDXL art style

Bugfixes:

  • Fixed a bug where the PNG version magazines were broken.
  • Fixed a broken image in Sharly's first repeatable scene.
  • Fixed a bug where the male lopunny image was broken.
  • Fixed a bug where gathering and hunting in the forest wilderness was causing a softlock.
  • Fixed a bug where horizontal rules were accompanied by empty text bubbles.

Given how much data needed to be uploaded I think I probably shouldn't have tried to update both versions at once, but since Hentai University was up next I didn't want to leave the finished scenes sitting in a box for a month.

Still, it's a lot of links! I'm not sure what the best way to handle it is for the future. I think the webp version is overall better but some players may prefer the larger image dimensions and some browsers just can't display webps. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The new costumes are mostly for future planned seasonal events, they don't normally appear in the museum because I set a flag to hide them. They'll appear and you're free to use them via the free the fur cheat code though. All of them work on both the furry and non-furry versions. Some characters have a lot less than others as their hair/colors were giving me problems.

I had preview posts written as I was going but subscribestar posts can take a while to write since I need to consolidate everything, and in order to get inline images the ones above I need to upload the images to an external website and then basically have to write HTML code for the post. I won't give up on trying to post more though, it's just that I realized that between being sick and dealing with mold issues in my house (maybe they're related?) that assembling the post would probably delay me another day so I just tried to focus entirely on the work.

I'll be working on Hentai University next, but I also want to see if I can write some kind of script that'll handle that for me an let me write and attach images more easily. There's a lot to do so I hope you'll stay tuned and thank you as always for being patient with me!
