Quick Update: Birthday Blackout and Platform Troubles

Hello everyone!
Yesterday I could not finish the programming side of Ilreth’s quest because I was without power. And of course, it had to be on my birthday in the 4th of August!
Anyway, some of you might already know about Itch.io’s recent delisting of adult content and how Visa and Mastercard have been putting pressure on platforms, making things increasingly difficult for adult content creators. Even though Kalyskah is pretty tame when it comes to erotic content, these changes still affected us.
We had to remove the “pay what you want” option from our free demo on Itch.io just as we were preparing the public release of version 0.28 there. So for now, our only sources of funding are Patreon and Subscribestar. And eventually, Steam.
Hopefully things will shift, but until then, as we move closer to our Early Access launch, it would really help if some of you on the free tier considered supporting us as patrons.
The past two months have been crucial to the project. We finally wrapped up the most complex code refactoring we had to do. Now, the only major systems left are the save and load system and the NPC World Manager. We added new activities to explore in the open world, including erotic scenes with cutscenes. And we are now adding a brand new quest where Kalyskah and Ilreth must work together to solve puzzles and push through a cave using mechanics the game has never had before.
As time goes on, the tendency is for the project to only grow.
With that in mind, I want to ask: what else could we offer that would make it worth your while to support us here? And for those already supporting, what improvements would you like to see in the higher tiers that might encourage you to upgrade?
We want to take a moment to listen to you. This vampire game is a dream coming true for us. We are building a story that takes itself seriously, creating mechanics that we hope make the game worth playing even without the adult content. And for the adult content, we are aiming to make it as immersive as possible with the kink system, and the way you control Kalyskah rather than the NPCs interacting with her during encounters.
With all that in mind, what would you like to see in the game, and what would you like to see improved on our page?

[News] Progress + New Song + Question!

Hello everyone, Corintio here!
I’m bringing you some updates and also looking forward to hearing your ideas!
As many of you know, we’re currently refactoring the game systems—this includes how NPCs are spawned into the world, along with various smaller systems, all to ensure the game runs butter-smooth when Early Access begins. While the programmer handles that side, I’ve been focusing on pushing cutscenes forward and writing new quests!
We’ve also been working on a new soundtrack for the prologue. As we aim to launch Early Access around June or July, we wanted to enrich those tense moments in the opening chapters. The new music leans into early industrial punk influences, inspired by the works of bands like Einstürzende Neubauten.
Now, onto something I’ve been documenting and where I’d love your input: weapon upgrades!
If you played the legacy demo, you might recall that Fara offered an option to upgrade your equipment. In the prologue, however, it’s Ilreth Baequianea who will be handling Kalyskah’s gear enhancements.
Here’s the concept: there are 11 types of Iathori Crystalas (Star-Crystals) scattered across the world. Each one offers a unique enhancement when used on weapons. Our current plan is to keep upgrades relatively simple, such as altering the type of damage or adding passive effects that trigger during regular attacks.
Here’s a breakdown of the Iathory Crystalas you can find and what they represent:

Dark Blue Crystals
  • Aspect: Water and Emotions
  • Properties: Influence emotions, control water elements.
Green Crystals
  • Aspect: Dimension and Fortune (Fate)
  • Properties: Manipulate space and affect luck. They also increase the presence of ghosts, especially when combined with white crystals—favoured by necromancers.
Brown Crystals
  • Aspect: Earth and the Body
  • Properties: Strengthen physical form and control earth elements. Commonly used in military gear to bolster physical might. Found in regions built upon impossible terrain.
Red Crystals
  • Aspect: Fire and Willpower
  • Properties: Channel willpower and wield fire.
White Crystals
  • Aspect: Spirit and Sound
  • Properties: Manipulate spiritual energy and sound waves.
Light Blue Crystals
  • Aspect: Time
  • Properties: Temporarily suspend time and allow divination.
Purplish Crystals
  • Aspect: Mind
  • Properties: Linked to the astral realm, these aid meditation and out-of-body experiences. Oh, did you notice in the demo that there's a purple Crystal where you find Nemesis? Hm.. that might mean something!
Faint Orange Crystals
  • Aspect: Fundamental Forces
  • Properties: Manipulate gravity, electromagnetism, and other fundamental forces of nature such as strong and weak nuclear interactions. Used in advanced magi-tech devices.
Yellow Crystals
  • Aspect: Light
  • Properties: Radiate intense light, harmful to vampires. They enhance virtues and are common in holy places, making them dangerous for the undead.
Black Crystals
  • Aspect: Darkness and Shadows
  • Properties: Grant control over shadows and concealment. But also the dark aspects of one's psyche. Used to shape hallowed ground and draw out hidden desires.
Mixed Crystals
  • Aspect: Composite
  • Properties: Merge aspects of multiple crystals, combining their effects.
So that’s the lore! Now here’s my question to you:
What sort of upgrades would you like to see for each crystal type?
Would a Red Crystal cause enemies to ignite occasionally? Could Green Crystals randomly dodge fatal blows? I’d love to hear your creative ideas and see how far we can push these systems without making things too complex too early.

Kalyskah version 0.27 Feedback collection!

Hello everyone!
Now that version 0.27 has been out for a few days, I am putting together a list of tasks based on your input so we can address these issues before moving forward with adding more content.
We are already aware of some issues in version 0.27, including broken breast physics, strange behaviour in Merishya’s quest, and the final boss fight and cutscenes that still need polish.
We have made humanoid enemies more challenging, but we will be updating them so their behaviour adjusts based on your difficulty settings.
Aside from that, what other issues have you encountered, or do you have any general feedback about the latest demo?

[Question] Vampire creation + Coven management?

Hello everyone!
Our programmer is wrapping up the character creator and soon he'll start the NPC schedule and relationship system. Something we were discussing about today, was that this is the right time to expand NPC interactions as a whole and tie several systems (including kinks, puppeteers, daily schedule, toysystem, influence, loyalty and negotiation) together in the same framework.
And an idea came to mind: What if you could create new vampires during gameplay?
What would you expect of a system like that? Would you like to have a way to control your newly born vampire in the world sandbox just for fun while waiting for new quests to be released? What about companions?
Let us know your thoughts because even though we already have a solid plan, now is the right time to hear your feedback and ideas so we can hopefully grow this system towards a direction that you directly contributed!
