Progress Report #68: May 2023

Greetings Voidcurious o/


Welcome back to the May finale of our weekly mapping of VoidBound development. Though there were fewer individual changes as efforts still remain centered around concepting, but the changes that were made are substantial! Lets go over them quickly!


We recently unveiled plans of revamping the intro of the game by pushing it away from the current text heavy style to a more hybrid'ish experience by introducing gameplay elements into it! To that effect, we're glad to report, a few new ideas have cleared the discussion table and work has now begun on implementing them!


Might we offer you a teaser sample of the top down view?


Rest assured, Caly will bring the pain upon her captors by making them suffer ten times over for all the humiliation they subjected upon her. And perhaps, a little payback too for what the Urtu did to her solar system!


In other aspects, with Ishan's Bad End scenario now finalized, writers have turned the majority of their attention to Gen's Bad End scenario. The pen masters really have it in for Caly these days it seems. Well... not all the time it seems.


A hot demand from our community recently was to have the crew spend some quality time together with the bee wonder, Mitsu! Who can say no to that compelling a request? We already teased two early designs last week so, how about two more?


And that is our short coverage on VoidBound's development for this week. With staggered release pattern in full effect, you might find us jumping quite a bit between different contents in our PRs for the next few weeks. But rest assured, the ultimate plan remains the same. All three Bad Ends, a redesigned intro, a solid foundation for the next planet! And, we'll make sure to keep you appraised on all of them.


For now though, that's all from our end and we'll see you in the tepid month of June!

Progress Report #67: May 2023

Hi everyone,

We’ve been working hard as usual, and this middle of May bore witness to some new creations as well as improvements to existing content! What's more, we have a special announcement by the end of this post, so stay tuned!


With the summer temps now peaking, one of the first few things that folks do in order to cool down, is to shed layers of clothing. However, our dear old Caly is afforded no such courtesy these days. She dun goofed up something awful, and the Henosian fuzz intends to keep her sweating in all sort of unmentionable ways. As one might discern, from the image attached, her tightly strapped melon breads aren't having a good time but, we're going to hazard a guess and presume that at least our artist surely is~


Now this one is a major find: You might remember us mentioning the writer team working on a re-haul of the game introduction some time ago. Initially, we were under the impression that this was limited to dialogue and story elements only to make the reader experience more immersive. However, it turns out it is more than just that. The team has extensive plans to turn the post tank scene sequence into a full on game-play oriented experience right from the point where Caly gets rescued upto where she finally makes it to Setek! Yep, it's full steam ahead on more RPG elements and we're not settling for future content only!


Finally, the code... well, sadly when development is in the initial/median stages, there are only a handful things to do when it comes to implementation. You already are well informed of our ongoing tussle with QuestLog as well as the constant tinkering with plugins to optimize the game better for a variety of hardware, so we won't spam you with the same stuff again.


Instead, how about a teaser sample as bribe? We promise there would be more where that came from!

And that is our report for this month! Before we bid adieu, an announcement:

After carefully evaluating our plans and future schedule, we have decided to divide the next major patch into staggered mini releases. We'll start with the first of the three planned bad ends which will be out on 27th of May! The decision was taken in order to give more individual attention on varying elements of the planned content as we would prefer to avoid team fatigue by tackling everything consecutively rather than all of it together.

We'll splash more details on the release date(s), so keep an eye out on this page! Till then, take care!

Progress Report #66: May 2023


Hail Voidseekers,


Time for a short progress update!


Yes, it's turning out to be a bit of a light month, but we promise, we'll absolutely make it upto you soon! For now though, the highlights of the week!


With the first of the new planned Ends for the Slime Chronicles now squared away in the hands of the writers, the artist has begun work on the second abrupt ending of Caly's adventure- this time at the hands of the opposite faction!


The Henosian Defence Force might claim to be the hand of law and order, but just like any other organization, they too aren't beneath the base instincts of being vindictive, especially to those who run afoul their plans. Their latest victim? A certain gun slinging engineer who bit more than she could chew.


So, what flavor of hell awaits her this time? Well, it's a bit hard to say right at this point. Unlike the architect plans that were drawn around the first bad ending, a different approach is being exercised for this one. In order to cut time and make things more efficiently streamlined, the team has forgone the "CGs first, text later approach" and instead decided to work in tandem, building both artistic and textual pieces together. Hopefully, it works out, as we aim to put out Voidbound's next update relatively soon!


Finally, happy days our coder hath returned from his journey! Well, he barely landed a few hours ago, but we're informed that a good chunk of work was tackled over the last few days so it seems there is little to worry as goals remain on track. Quest Log development especially is turning into a bit of chore that frequently saps life force of those who dare to work on it. For those who are new and may have missed it or just might have forgotten, this is the QuestLog sample in production:
