Update: Future plans and thoughts
Hey all, so it's about time my usual post comic break is over, however this time I won't be starting on another comic just yet. As mentioned in my previous posts, I wanted to wait until my break was over to see if I still felt the same, and turns out, yea I'm still pretty burned out, so much so, that I haven't even made the censored preview version to post on my other medias. I just checked my earliest content, and I was surprised to see that it's already been a year since I started this journey. Since the start I've been working 6+ hours a day for 3 weeks every month on these comics/pinups, and I think that is pretty insane considering this was just supposed to be a hobby.
While I enjoyed(and still do) making these contents, it is partly my fault as I fell into the rookie content creator trap overtime of growing more fixated on the numbers, and let the pressure of losing/gaining subscribers influence my decisions which led to me setting these ambitious goals of monthly/weekly content that would cause the eventual burnout, because each passing day, working on the comics/pinups became more like a chore/job rather than for fun. In a similar vein, I got pretty demoralized when I see other people upload poor quality art/content of similar types and get thousands of likes/followers when it's obvious for anyone working in this space that they barely put any effort into it–I'm talking about as simple as spending 10mins of loading some premade popular characters into a scene, loading premade poses onto them and then slapping some premade rope shibari props on them and calling it a day. Now I'm not saying that my content is perfect because it's not, but it makes me question why am I spending 3 hours rerendering the same scene 10 times just because the camera angle is one pixel off.
I like to think that I put in a lot of effort into my content and that's what sets me apart from other artists, but clearly something isn't working and it just feels like it's not worth the time/effort. That being said I'm still extremely grateful to all of you that buy/read my content, as I wouldn't be where I am now without y'all.
So what does that mean for my content?
I'll be extending my break for an undetermined amount of time, until I feel ready to start the grind again. I still very much enjoy creating these BDSM/peril contents so it's not a matter of if, but when I'll be fully back. I put emphasis on fully, because I will still make some content in the meantime for subscribers completely free of charge for as long as I'm "on vacation", and maybe even a full comic but at my own slow pace.
Moving forward, I'm also thinking of changing the purchase method of my comics to just one time purchases from my stores, rather than putting it under a subscription, and then changing the function of subscriptions to perhaps previews or an early access type of thing, whilst also discontinuing the weekly pinups completely as there doesn't seem to be much demand for them. Hopefully this alleviates some of the pressure of meeting deadlines/goals, but it also means that the comic could take any amount of time to make. I'll have more details on it when I'm back, but this is just a thought I had.
What about my current subscription?
You may have noticed at the top of the page it says this creator is "on vacation", it's a SubStar function that I enabled which displays that fat notice at the top, as well as PAUSING ALL BILLING FROM ALL SUBSCRIPTIONS for as long as I'm "on vacation", so you DO NOT have to unsubscribe, but are welcome to do so if you want to (But as mentioned above I'll still be making some content for my subscribers free of charge so you will still have to be "subscribed" to see them). The vacation period shown is merely tentative and I'll extend it myself if needed until I am fully back.
To end it off, again I'd like to thank all of you that do buy/read my content, I am truly grateful. And here's a preview of my new character Yin Hua - a beautiful warrior princess inspired by something I read that I'm thinking of turning into a comic :D
