Chapter 1 — Devlog #7

We’re almost at the finish line with the renders.
How close exactly? All scenes are finished and already queued for rendering, with the queue currently sitting at over 180 renders. That means I’m gradually moving into the post-processing stage. There are a few spots where it’s absolutely necessary. I don’t expect it to take more than a day, but there are still some renders that aren’t done yet, so that’s something I’m keeping in mind.
After that comes coding and translation. Translation usually takes me about a day to a day and a half, depending on the amount of text.
Honestly, I didn’t expect to reach this stage before the end of the year, even though I said I would. So I’m really glad things turned out this way.
Overall, the chapter is shaping up to be quite large, with noticeable consequences from the prologue and choices you’ve already made. Some of them will be subtle, others much more impactful.
Even players who chose a more restrained or distant path will have plenty to engage with. As I mentioned before, Undawn is a game where intimate scenes are a reward for certain choices, not the core of the experience. Story, atmosphere, and consequences always come first.
I really can’t wait to show it to you, but you’ll have to be just a little more patient.

Chapter 1 — Devlog #6


We’re on the final stretch with the renders!
I’m almost done with one of the questlines focused on Loraine and slowly moving on to the next one. Based on how it feels so far, this next questline should be noticeably smaller and easier to handle.
What does this mean?
I’ll try to finish most of the rendering work before the New Year holidays. After that, once my proofreader has some time, I’ll send the script over for review. Realistically, I probably won’t be able to wrap up everything before the holidays, but there’s a good chance it’ll be done within the first weeks of the new year.
During the holidays themselves, I also want to take a short break. I won’t be able to spend them with family, but at least I’ll get some proper sleep and rewatch Die Hard and The Lord of the Rings for the millionth time.
I’ll also make a separate Christmas post with a small gift closer to the holidays.
For now, that’s it. Thanks for sticking with me!

Chapter 1 — Devlog #5

Once again, this entire week was dedicated to renders. The good news is that I managed to finish one of the most difficult scenes so far, at least in my own opinion. I’m really happy with how it turned out, and I even managed to sneak in a small Terminator easter egg. Will you spot it?
While working on the renders, I also revisited part of the script and improved it further. It gained a couple of additional branches, and you’ll be able to see that very soon.
At this point, the number of finished renders has already reached the same amount as the prologue. There are still two fully optional questlines ahead. Working on them should be much faster and easier, since everything is already prepared, from characters to environments.
To wrap things up, I want to say that I’m genuinely excited about the upcoming chapter. Based on my own feelings, it has the potential to turn out significantly better than the prologue, and I very rarely rate my own work this highly.
I hope you’re looking forward to Chapter 1 as much as I am.
