Summer Scent is my first project.



It's the beginning of summer. Jack is 18 years old and has just finished high school by graduating.
He has a tense relationship with Eve, his childhood friend who seems to have disliked him cordially for a few years.
Jack's parents had left town for a week, Eve invites her best friend, Cassie, to join them.
They have the house and the pool for them alone.
How Jack will handle the situation depends on you.



The game is a visual novel. Your decisions will have consequences and will influence the story and its conclusion.
You will be able to change the name of the main characters.
Images are Full HD renders (1920x1080).



The game should be rather short but it will be an adequate size for a first experience. I hope you will enjoy it.

Latest version available to 5$ subscribers : Summer Scent V0.4.1.
It covers the story up to the end of Day 4.

Scene 13 posing is done and the scene is fully rendered. I still have some corrections to do on it but essentially, it's done. I tried to make Eve and Cassie blush and I encountered some problems with the shaders in the process. The result isn't bad. I hope you'll like it.

I'm still working on writing Scene 14. I've already written two-third of it. As I said it's a big scene with four different versions of the same event. Two versions are written, I'm working on the third one. I hope to finish it this weekend.

Scene 4 and 5 have been proofread. I'll start applying the correction to the script next week.

Scene 11 is posed and fully rendered.

Scene 12 is written and posed. It's a very short one. More of a transition between two more important parts than a true scene. As a consequence, it was pretty easy and fast to write, and also to pose. It has yet to be rendered.

Scene 13 is written. I'll start working on the posing this weekend. This one is pretty important and for now, I'm happy with what I wrote.

I've also started writing scene 14 which will be a huge scene with several very different versions (Some of these versions may contain some .. hot stuff...)

I'll write and pose scene 14 before going back to coding.

Weeks are definitely too short.

Scenes up to 10 are now coded and sent to my proofreader. He has already corrected the first three scenes but I have yet to apply the corrections on the script.

Scene 11 is written. Not much to say here. Scene 11 contains two versions of the same event. It's 2700 words long and was relatively easy to write.

I've added a thousand words and a dozen shots (that have yet to render) to Scene 10. This scene ended being way bigger than I expected but I think it'll worth it.

I'm currently posing scene 11. It should be easy. I have good hope to finish it by Monday.

I've also started writing scene 12 and pushed the drafting of the naughty scenes further.

Posing and Coding
The posing and rendering of scene 10 are done. It took me more time than I expected. And I ended up making more render than what I first envisioned. But it's done.

I've started coding scenes 1 to 10. The first five are already coded and have been sent to my trusty proofreader. He's already cursing me for teasing and spoiling him at the same time.
All the story logic is in place so that the script is fully readable and understandable. I haven't placed the images yet, however, as I'm thinking of reworking the gallery system and may have to completely change the way I display those images for something easier to use and maintain. I'll see about that when I'll be done with the story of Day 5.

About cross-promotion
I have been contacted by some other game developers to eventually do some cross-promotion. I'm very interested in what you think about that kind of advertising. Would it interest or bother you?
If I ever do some cross-promotion, I won't promote a game I haven't played and liked. It will just be me, explaining what I liked and promoting a game I enjoyed playing.
As it's not a very "advertising" friendly approach of that practice, that kind of post may end up being very rare. But as a rare nuisance is still a nuisance, I want to make sure that it is not going to upset or annoy my supporters. Tell me what you think about it!

I don't have much to say, so this will be a pretty short dev update.
Scene 10 writing is complete.
Scene 8 and 9 are fully posed. Scene 8 was rather long while scene 9 was very short. Scene 8 is also fully rendered. Scene 9 should render overnight.
I'm now working on posing Scene 10. I should be able to finish it by Monday.
I'm then going to code the first 10 scenes and send the whole script to my proofreader. I'm a little impatient to know what he thinks of it.

Here is an updated view of the story map for V0.5.


A quick explanation of the colors :
Red means writing, posing and rendering is done.
Blue is Scene 10. I'm working on posing it right now.
Green are scenes that will be very short. Like less than a thousand words and 10 renders each.
Orange, are scenes that I've already drafted. They're not written yet but I have a pretty detailed plan of what I'll have to write.
So... yes, I've added a couple scenes on the bottom of the map. As you've probably already guessed, these will happen during the night and will be "naughty".

Scenes 8, 9, and two-third of Scene 10 are written. I hope to finish the last part of scene 10 this weekend. 
The rendering of Scene 7 is complete.

I've also spent some time building a new location. In v0.5, the story will lead the characters in a "new" part of the house: the laundry room.
Originally, I wrote this room as being situated in the basement of the house, but trying to build it that way, I wasn't satisfied with the results. So I've revised my plans to suit a room on the ground floor. I'm okay with the results so far. I'll show you that tomorrow in the render preview.

I've used this new location to shot a few bonuses renders that will be available for all supporters. I've tried to make some 4k renders but it just takes to much time and too many resources (especially on the VRAM). Full HD will have to do until I change my set up.

I'm updating the goals of the project for something more manageable and realistic. I'll think about something else and add more if these are ever reached.

Scene 7 is finally done.
I've spent almost two weeks working on it, creating new characters and locations, try new assets, writing and posing it, but it's finally done. It has been quite the wild ride and to be honest if I am happy with the writing, and most of the posing, some renders don't look as good as I hoped they would.
There's a lot of noise and fireflies on some renders. I'll have to denoise them and that means a loss in detail and quality but I don't have much choice. This is the kind of situation where my rig is really limiting as it lacks in power and VRAM.
However, even if I'm not 100% satisfied with the results, I can't work on it forever and I have to move on. I've also learned a few things about lighting that I'll make sure to put to good use in the future.

I'm currently writing scene 8.
I think I'll be able to finish it today.
I want to write scene 8 to 10, pose them and then code scene 1 to 10 so I can send them to my trusty proofreader. After that, I'll probably work on a scene by scene basis to give him enough time to correct my mistakes and errors before the release.

I've spent the week working on posing and character design.

Scene 5 and 6 are fully posed and rendered. Without surprises nor difficulties, these two scenes were easy to deal with. 
Scene 7, however, is another story. I had to create or redesign several characters for this occasion along with creating new locations. All this work is done and I'm pretty satisfied with the results. I have now a lot of shots to pose before going back to writing.
Scene 7 will probably be the most time-consuming part of V0.5 development. I think I'm halfway through it.

I've spent the week writing.
As a consequence, scenes 5, 6, and 7 are now written and Day 5 content has passed the 15.5 k words.
Scene 7 is a very special one and I need to take very special care of it. It's written and I'm very happy with what I came up with for now but I'm pretty sure that I will retouch it extensively later. It's a very sensible scene and it's also a completely optional and avoidable one. But still, I feel like it will be the most important scene of the game for the time being. 

I'm going back to posing. Scene 5 and 6 should be easy, as they're mostly mono character scenes with very simple interactions. Scene 7 however will be something else entirely and probably a bit of a challenge to pose and render properly. I'll have to create new locations and new characters, try a completely different style of photography... I have pretty high ambitions for this scene... Even if it's an optional and avoidable one.

Dev Update #41


The posing of Scene 4 took longer than I expected. There wasn't any difficulty, I just ended making more shots than I first envisioned.
However, It's done. Scene 4 is now fully posed and it will render overnight.

With this scene, V0.5 has passed the 110+ render mark.

Some rewriting also happened during the posing. As usual.

I'm now working on writing scene 5.

I've added Discord Roles to the rewards. If it doesn't work properly for you, let me know and we'll find a solution.
Tiers have also been renamed.

I worked and still work on posing.
As expected, Scene 1 was difficult to deal with, but it's done. I've spent several days on it. Scene 2 was much easier to pose. I'm currently working on Scene 3.
As I mentioned in a previous Dev Update, I also reworked Jack's clothes. Nothing crazy. Jack isn't really a fashionista.
I've also spent some time reworking the girls' clothes but didn't manage to get something quite satisfying. I still have time, though, as the first scenes are mostly sleepwear/sportswear and I don't really need the new outfits before the next sets of scenes.
As I started rendering, the render previews will be back, starting today.

Dev Update #39


I don't have much to say this week.

I finished writing Scenes 1 to 4. The word count is now about 9500 words. I'm mostly happy with what I wrote. I still may rewrite some part of it at some point but for now I'm happy with it.
I'm currently working on the posing of Scene 1. I've lost some time with a shader problem but it's now solved.
There will be some difficult poses in Scene 1 but Scenes 2, 3, and 4 should be pretty easy to pose.

About project management.
As I mentioned last week, I searched for a way to give you some more frequent and regular information about the development of the game. I came up with this Trello Board. I'll still publish a dev update every week with a report on what I worked on during the week. Let me know if you find it informative and useful to you.
