Summer Scent is my first project.



It's the beginning of summer. Jack is 18 years old and has just finished high school by graduating.
He has a tense relationship with Eve, his childhood friend who seems to have disliked him cordially for a few years.
Jack's parents had left town for a week, Eve invites her best friend, Cassie, to join them.
They have the house and the pool for them alone.
How Jack will handle the situation depends on you.



The game is a visual novel. Your decisions will have consequences and will influence the story and its conclusion.
You will be able to change the name of the main characters.
Images are Full HD renders (1920x1080).



The game should be rather short but it will be an adequate size for a first experience. I hope you will enjoy it.

I'm still working on posing scene 8. So far I've posed about 70 shots. It's not much considering I've planned 280 renders for that scene. However, I've started with the difficult part and the most complex poses. The remaining 200 shots will be easier and faster to pose.
When I decided to split Day 6 into three parts, I roughly estimated that I would be writing about 30 000 words and pose about 500 renders for each part. I thought that I could do that in about 4 months.
Day 6 part 1 isn't done and I've already overstepped my estimations in word count, renders and time. Let's be honest, it's a failure.
If I keep going like that, Day 6 part one will probably hit the 50k words, the thousand renders and won't be released before this fall at best. These long development times are as frustrating for me as they are for you and they're clearly not in my best interest. So I have to do something. I won't write less nor make fewer renders but I can change my splitting plans.
I'm thinking of pushing scenes 11, 12 and 13 to part 2. I will probably also split the content I've planed for parts 2 and 3 further.
I'm still unsure how I will split my content in the future but the more I think about it, the more I believe that short and frequent releases are better than big and rare ones (e.g. a smaller release every 3 or 4 months is better than a big one every nine months).
I'll think about it some more but at that point, I feel like it's an obvious and logical decision.

Dev Update #99


I finished writing scene 8 as planned. It's 13 500 words in total. That scene has a lot of variants, and most of them are pretty eventful. I already reworked some parts of my first draft. I'm mostly satisfied with what I wrote, there shouldn't be any major rewrite during the posing.

I initially planned about 280 renders for that scene but that's probably too much. I don't think I need 30 renders of Jack reading something on the screen of his laptop. I'll have to find a solution to bring visual change and movement without making useless render. Maybe pseudo animations, like eye blinking, maybe simple expression transitions without movement... I have to try a few things while I'll pose and render that scene.

I also have a problem with the light I use. It's looking good, but light reflections on Jack's hairs aren't so great.
If I can't find a solution in the rendering settings, I'll have to either change the light or find a way to deal with it in post-processing. And I have to make a decision about that before I pose too many shots because if I have to edit and rerender hundreds of files it will be a colossal waste of time.

I have already started working on it and about 20 shots are posed. I don't expect to finish it next week unless some miracle happens.

I got my second shot of Moderna this week and it took its toll on me. I've spent a couple of days in a rather sorry state that wasn't really favourable to writing but I still managed to advance a bit.

I'm not done with writing scene 8 though. I worked on it the whole week but couldn't finish. I still have one path to write in and it's a big one. The scene just reached the 10k words mark. Once complete it will probably be about 13 k words.
That also means that I'll have to produce about 260 renders for that scene alone. If I want to keep the render/word ratio I'm aiming at for Day 6, that is. It's going to take some time to pose.

So far, I'm rather happy with what I wrote and I haven't rewritten much of it. Depending on the path you're in you'll have a steamy scene or something more emotional... or something else. I hope you'll like it!

Dev Update #97


Scene 6 and 7 are fully rendered. Thanks to a few days of cool weather, I was able to render on both GPUs for a while.

Scene 9 is written and I'm currently working on scene 8.

Scene 8 is one of the two big scenes of v0.6 part 1 (the other one being scene 13). So far it's about 4500 words and it will at least double in volume, more likely triple. On some paths, it's a "naughty" scene and I've already written a fair bit of steamy content for it. Writing it will probably take me a few days. I don't expect to finish before Tuesday. I'll then go directly into posing mode.

My proofreader sent me back the corrected scripts for scenes 1 to 4. I haven't yet reported the correction. I'll look into that this week.

The exclusive bonus renders for July have been voted.
I'll work on these two suggestions :
  • Eve, Cassie, Kelly, and MC all sitting on logs around a campfire at night. MC is playing the guitar while the girls watch and listen.
 and 
  • By the pool, Eve looking at Jack while caressing herself with an ice cube.

I've also been lacking in the preview render department. You can expect some more in the next weeks.

How about a little Dev Update?

Scene 7 is posed and queued for rendering.
Scene 9 is half-written. Yes, scene 9. I had to skip scene 8 because, for some reasons, I couldn't work on it at the moment. So I worked on scene 9 instead. It's a medium-sized scene with about 2000 words at the moment. It should get bigger than 3000 words. Most of the posing for that scene should be easy too but we'll see about that when I'll get there.
I'm going to finish writing scene 9 this weekend and then go back to scene 8. Scene 8 is going to be a big and "intense" scene, in several ways.

My workstation had another adventure at the workshop. They fixed the water-cooling loop and it seems to work properly now. However the whole thing still gets pretty hot, but it's probably because there is now double the heat to dissipate, as there are now two GPUs, and that's enough heat to saturate my room. I've rendered for a large part of this Friday and the temperatures were nicely low in the morning but slowly roses through the day as the heat in the room became pretty much unbearable.
So, I think it's working properly but I'll need some more ventilation. I'll also have to look into undervolting as it seems to make wonders in keeping GPUs cool under load.
I think we're back in the rendering business.

I'm late on the bonus renders!
I'll work on it starting this weekend.

Sorry, I'm a bit late for that Dev Update.
Scene 6 is fully posed. I had to rework a few shots because I decided at the last moment to change Kelly's outfit.
Scene 6 is 109 shots in total.
I wrote scene 7. The first and the second draft are done. I'll probably still rewrite it a bit while posing but I'm confident it's 95 % definitive. It's a pretty short scene: about 1500 words total, split into two parts. There is almost no interaction, so it should be fairly easy to pose.
Now, for a bit of hardware drama.
I took my workstation back to the workshop on Friday so that they could install the new GPU and the water-cooling loop. The new GPU works perfectly. The water-cooling however, doesn't. Temperatures at rest are ok, but not while under load. They are worse than what I previously experimented while on air cooling. So something is definitely wrong.
I should be able to pose my shots without problems but I stopped rendering. I'll wait for my set-up to work properly to resume the rendering.
So, I have to make a new appointment with the workshop to get that checked. I'm a bit discouraged by this situation. I know my hardware isn't at risk and that's just some lost time. But still, it's annoying and stressful.

Not much to say this week.
I'm still working on posing scene 6. So far, I've posed about 70% of the shots I've planned. I hope to finish it this weekend, maybe by Monday.
A lot of the remaining shots are very "static" so it should be doable.

The rendering is lagging a bit behind. I'm not worried by the rendering speed, however. I'm more concerned about the heat. It's getting hot in here. So far my GPU is holding the line but I'm still a bit concerned about the rising temperatures. During winter, rendering made it go up to 65c. The max temperature is now about 70c and it's going to get hotter with summer. My hardware should be fine but I can't help but worry a bit.
I'm going to water cool everything in the very near future. I hope it will help.

Dev Update #93

From Day 5

Scene 4 and 5 are post-processed and coded. The script has been sent for proofreading.
The writing of scene 6 is done. The scene is 5000 words long. I initially planned to write much more than that, and I actually did so (the first draft was about 8000 words) but I wasn't satisfied with it. It was too lengthy and slow. I edited out a large part of it and rewrote the rest into something more impactful.
I started working on the pose. I've planned about a hundred renders for that scene.

About the remaining scenes.
Scene 7 and scene 13 should be pretty big. Probably bigger than scene 6. In terms of writing and volume of renders as well. Scene 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 however, will be way shorter.
I'm having a hard time with the post-processing.
You probably all know that I changed the way I post-process my renders with that new chapter. It still works. The problem however is that the more I look at the results the less I like it. I'm considering going back to something a bit less contrasted. I'm not fixed on that yet.
I've ordered a new GPU.
A second RTX 3090. This means I'll be able to render faster. It's a fairly big investment but it should have a significant impact on the quality of the render and the speed at which I can produce them.

Dev Update #92


Scene 4 and 5 are fully posed and rendered. I encountered a problem while rendering scene 5 and I had to re-render the whole scene with new settings but it's now corrected and I'm satisfied with the results.
I started writing scene 6. It will be a fairly big scene with two variants. I'm done writing the smaller one and it's already over 2000 words. The second variant should be bigger with a few different components depending on your previous choices and your relationship status with the girls. I hope to finish it this weekend.
I'm considering making some late changes in my story map for day six. I'm thinking of pulling some content from part two into part one. Some scenes I have originally planned for the afternoon could fit better in the morning. However, I don't want to change the scene count for part one, so to add something, I have to remove something else. I don't have many options. I have to think about it some more but I'm pretty sure it would make part one more interesting and intense. That also means I'll have to review my original plans for part 2. I'll have to think about everything thoroughly before I change anything.

Scene 3 is rendered, post-processed and coded. It's now on the desk of my proofreader.
Scene 4 is fully posed and I'll render it overnight.
I also finished writing scene 5 and I'm currently posing it. I don't expect any difficulties.
That being said I didn't expect any on scene 4 either and still encountered a small problem. The toilet asset I use wasn't functional, and I had to modify it in order to make it usable. That was an interesting experience and that wasn't a complete waste of time as the things I learned doing that may be useful again. 

I hope to be done with scene 6 (at least the posing) by the end of the month, in ten days. It's going to be difficult but I believe it's feasible.
That would represent about half the content of Day 6 part one.

I'm done with posing scene 3 and Pc-Chan spent half the week rendering non-stop to get everything done. I couldn't work on the post-processing while rendering was going on, so I switched to writing to advance on scene 4 and 5.
Scene 4 is fully written and I'm halfway through scene 5. I'm going to finish writing it before going back to scene 3 for post-processing and coding.
Scene 4 and 5 are pretty short as they contain only a couple of path each. That's why writing was pretty fast. Posing should be as simple. I have good hopes to advance pretty quickly on those two scenes.

Dev Update #89


I'm still posing Scene 3. I had a couple of minor setbacks that made me lose some time. Nothing important but enough to be frustrating.

My first problem is with asset quality. Kelly is getting a work out outfit on Day 6. The problem is that it's way better than the ones I used for Cassie and Eve. So I had to improvise something. I'm not 100% satisfied but I had to move forward. There's simply not enough quality assets. I can reuse the same assets with different textures but the result is weird as it's obvious that the girls are wearing the same thing. Maybe I'll have to rerender that scene before the release if I find something more satisfying.

I had a couple more ideas for that scene while working on the posing. I ended up rewriting some parts and reposing a few shots for something more interesting than what was originally planned. The dual love version of that scene is especially spicy.

I also had to correct a couple dozen shots in scene 1. Something wasn't fitting, I had to construct a new prop and replace an old one before re-rendering everything.

I still have about twenty shots to pose in order to finish scene 3. All the interaction heavy shots are already done so I have good hopes to finish it this weekend.

The quick sum up :
  • Day 6 Part 1 will contain 13 scenes.
  • Scenes 1 to 3 are written.
  • Scene 1 and 2 are posed and rendered. Scene 3 is partially posed and rendered.
  • Scene 1 and 2 are coded.
  • 12 091 words, 1801 lines of code, 198 shots are posed, 175 are rendered.
  • 10 environments have been reworked.
  • I'm currently posing scene 3.
