Hazelnut Latte v0.11.7 Out for Everyone + An Update



Hello everyone! v0.11.7 of Hazelnut Latte is out for everyone over on my Itch.io page!
I wanted to take this opportunity to give an update regarding the free version of Hazelnut Latte and its future. Ever since the game started development almost two years ago, on October 19, 2022, there has been a free version of Hazelnut Latte to play. This version was first available to my financial backers before eventually landing on Itch for free.
With this new update, we are changing that. As we advance, v0.11.7 will be the public demo for Hazelnut Latte, and new free game versions will not be available on Itch. This news is probably sad for many people, but this was bound to happen as the game progressed.
The demo will still receive occasional updates as people find bugs and typos. If the game changes in Episodes 1 through 5, we will also update the demo to reflect that, such as adding new CGs to highlight critical moments.
We believe Episode 5 is the perfect endpoint for a demo as you meet four of the seven main love interests, and we establish the central conflict for the rest of the game.
Early Access
As usual, new builds will be available on my Patreon and SubscribeStar, but we plan to bring something to Itch. When v0.12 is ready, we will release an Early Access version when you typically get the free version. So you can pay us once on Itch and get what will eventually turn into the full version once the game is done. The downside is that you must wait until it makes the rounds on Patreon, but the benefit is paying once.
We will have more information on this Early Access version when v0.12 is closer to being completed.

Technical Update for the Future!

Hello! I hope everyone who has the chance to play v0.11.5 is having a good time!
But the boat doesn't stop, and we aren't stopping ;)
One question I am always asking myself is, "How do I make the game take up less space?"
We solved a bit of that question by inventing a lighter version for mobile. But I want both versions to take up less space. I hate when games require 88gbs of space. Why do I still play Destiny 2?
So, we figured out a new technique! And that is how we are utilizing our sprites!
At the moment, every time a sprite shows up on the screen, you get the entire sprite—everything. But that is a lot of alternative versions of every outfit, pose, and expression. We are now switching to a layered sprite system that will be less of a memory hog and also run better in the code, taking up fewer lines and being less annoying.
 On the right, we have the old way. Every character has every outfit, pose, and expression saved separately. Now, we look on the left, and everything is in its own separate file. We take that and layer it: the body, outfit, and changing expression.
But how much is that really saving us?
Hazel, being the main love interest, has the most sprites and other pieces. He used to take up 237MB with 447 files. Now, he takes up 8.28MB, which is only 57 files. Nearly 230MB saved right there. Now, you take that and account for every character, and we are going to save a lot of space.
This is something we are working on for v0.12 to make the game and experience better.
We're hard at work chugging along on v0.12, but we hope this was insightful!

Hazelnut Latte v0.11.5

v0.11.5 is done!

It has been 150 days since I made a post like this for the last build, and it has been a wild ride. I moved, got married, quit my retail job and made this my full-time job. 
I didn't want this update to take as long as it did, but when I actually sit back and compare it to v0.10.5? It's like a completely different game. 
So, what took so long? Well, we had some trouble getting certain tasks done for the game that were being handled by an outside contractor. They took a long time and were not communicative, delaying the game longer than I wanted. Not to mention, this new episode has 17k+ words. Refinements and changes to older episodes. 4 new lewd scenes. All lewd scenes are now animated. Jeze and Robbie have their own unique voices. A secret ending to the game. We completely revamped the sprites for Hazel, Jeze, Vera, and Mr. Noto. Added 2 new characters with sprites. A completely new version for mobile that is nearly half as big storage-wise. And we completely redid the gallery system.
It was a lot of work, and I couldn't have done it all myself. Since the last huge update, I hired a programmer, Nobafka. He has been an incredible asset and friend these past few months. The game wouldn't work as well as it does without his tireless efforts. He not only has done fantastic work on this update, but we've been hard at work looking ahead. I want to acknowledge all of his amazing efforts.
We also have a new animator! Their first and only animation in this build is in the secret ending, but I'm very happy to have Koth join the team. They are a lewd femboy artist and animator, and I enjoyed their work immensely and needed to have them on the team. They are already animating scenes for the next episode.
I also want to welcome the two new cast members who joined us in this update. SED21 has joined the cast as Jeze, and The Scarlet Garden has joined the cast as Robbie! They match their characters to a sort of scary degree, and their moans emphasise the already incredible animations. I hope to get more out of them soon ;)
Of course, we can't forget our very own Kokman. He first joined the game at a very bad time. I was without an artist, and this game was up in the air. Kokman took the game and ran with it. Creating amazing art pieces, redoing them because I'm a nitpicker, and completely changing stuff without complaining. He has worked very hard throughout this update, all while moving a few times himself. He is an incredible artist and someone I am very happy to call a friend.
I want to highlight some members of the community (it's so weird that I have one) at this time: A1X, ItsGobyTime, and Demonic Corrupted Soulforge. You have been such incredible help, and this ship wouldn't sail without you.
But honestly, thank all of you. I've been trying to be a full-time artist for a very long time. I took a gamble on adult games, and it paid off. And it only happened because of all of you. You keep me going, and you are my inspiration. :)
But let's do a review of the stuff I promised last time...
  • We are going to introduce 2 main love interests and 2 side hook ups!
  • We are going to introduce new locations!
  • We are going to introduce a 'free roam' mode with a bunch of choices on where to go and what to do!
  • This ended up not happening, but is already written to happen in the next episode.
  • We are going to introduce the real main plot and central conflict of the narrative!
  • I am hoping to tie up some loose ends and choices since it is getting a little out of control! (probably aiding in my sanity level decreasing)
  • These two things DID happen, and as it turns out, they took a LOT of time to do.
  • And, of course, so many lewd scenes!
  • Some may not consider 4 lewd scenes to be many, and I'm one of them. But this was a plot-heavy episode.
  • There will be content for Hazel, Jeze, Robbie, and Vera!
  • There are 2 lewd scenes for Hazel, a lewd gallery image for Jeze, nothing for Robbie, and 2 lewd scenes for Vera. I definitely thought we'd get farther in the story than we did. I hope to not do this again as now I am outlining and planning very far out.
So, I managed to keep some promises and break others. For that, I am very, very sorry. But I still hope you enjoy this episode and all the fun stuff we have for you to explore!
If you are a $20+ Backer, the code in the older posts will work for every version of v0.11. A new one will be generated for v0.12.
There are new variables in earlier episodes that you will need to get in order for the game to not break.
If something breaks, please restart your game. I know it's a hassle, but as the game is not in a finished state, things will alter and break. Remember to hold CTRL to skip past dialogue and click the same choices to get back to where you were.

  • Added sound effects to Episode 1. (The cup falling and entering Estros)
  • I changed the Romance route when interacting with the laptop in Episode 4 to avoid a fourth wall break.
  • Expanded the Mystery Caller Jones segment to have a variable indicating if the player wants to be fucked by her or not.
  • Expanded Dave's lewd scene to account for new animations.
  • Hazel will remember the drink you ordered in Episode 3.
  • Fixed sprites for everyone and adjusted them to take up less memory.
  • Added a scene in Episode 3 where the player can run into Vera earlier. This creates a variable.
  • Added dialogue in Episode 3 to indicate to players that they should go talk to Jeze before doing any other activity.
  • If you turned down getting drinks, the variable tracking was broken, but now it's fixed.
  • Important moments with a variable attached will be called out.
  • The gallery has been completely reworked to have character bios, sprites, and a filter for Episodes and Characters.
  • The door code moment in Episode 1 has changed along with the code.
Known Issues
  • Waiting for Vera's VA lines, so there is a placeholder.
New Content
  • SED21 has been cast as Jeze! New moans and voice lives are added to give Jeze a unique voice.
  • The Scarlet Garden has been cast as Robbie! New moans and voice lives are added to give Robbie a unique voice.
  • Added a moment in Episode 2 where the player can look at Jeze's butt during the date. Note: This has a variable assigned.
  • Locations now have people populating them. They are intractable.
  • Select environments, such as Hazel and Robbie's apartment in Episode 5, are explorable.
  • Episode 5 has 17,456 words and 4 animated lewd scenes.
  • Two new characters with 10 sprites each.
  • Mr. Noto has 34 more sprites now.
  • Hazel's sprites have been completely redone with 3 new expressions.
  • Jeze's sprites have been completely redone with 2 new expressions and 3 new outfits.
  • Gallery Images added to Episodes 1 and 2.
  • A lower-intensity version of the game is now available with a 1080 resolution. This will be the default mobile version with a smaller download size.
  • 4 new art pieces to emphasise special moments in Episodes 1 and 2.
The Future...
So, where do we go from here?
We are hard at work on Episode 6. The game is at 99k words, with Episode 6 having roughly 16k words. It isn't done being written since I pivoted to wrapping up Ep 5. But I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up around 18-19k when I am done. 
I've also been outlining the game's future and direction. I have 16 episodes outlined, and I plan to have the game end on Episode 24, but I admit, I'll probably do a special 25-episode thing.
But let's talk about v0.12, aka Episode 6!
  • Hazel will have 2 lewd scenes, with one being repeatable.
  • Vera will not have new lewd scenes—that could change—but her first two become repeatable with new dialogue.
  • Robbie has 1 planned lewd scene, but this could go up...
  • Jeze has a whopping 3 lewd scenes, with 2 being repeatable.
  • We are going to introduce new 2 main love interests and 2 side hookups!
  • The two-side hookups will have repeatable lewd scenes.
  • We are going to introduce new locations!
  • We will introduce a 'free roam' mode with many choices on where to go and what to do!
  • Characters will be at different places depending on the time of day and day of the week.
  • We are going to implement a "Making Coffee" mini-game.
  • We are hoping to implement another mini-game to earn money at home.
  • Potentially getting the game to work with Lovense?
Episode 6 is going to be a MASSIVE shift in the gameplay and flow of the game. We had time to work on the map system since we were delayed due to an outside contractor. It is almost ready, and I hope to implement it into the game proper.
