Bimonthly Update, April 2, 2022

Hello my friends
Yes Bimonthly. (Twice a month, not every two months.) I have been thinking that updating every week might be overkill. Although if people want me to keep up the weekly updates, I will.

My plan is to now update on the first and third Saturday of each month.

Sometimes my posts feel like I am just inching along, and by updating each week, I am just putting out too many updates. This week is a great example of that inching along, where I did work, and yet it looks like I got nothing done.

My motivation for doing the weekly updates was to let people know that I was in fact working on the next update, and wasn’t going anywhere, nor that I was abandoning ship. There are too many abandoned projects out there.

Reconverting webp

In the last update I converted most of my images to webp, mostly to shrink the size of the file people need to download, and the size taken up on your system. But apparently, I set the quality too low.

I work with 2 HD monitors, but they aren’t 4K. When I converted those images, they really didn’t look bad to me, but was informed that they were quite noticeable on 4K monitors. So, this week was spent re-encoding those images.

It could have gone a lot quicker, but I rename all the images in my visual novel, and that made it harder for me to find all the images. Plus, I could probably have turned this into a batch conversion, but I went through each image, and made sure it was the right one.

I also found a few things to fix, so I re-edited almost a couple dozen of the images so they blended in a little better. I believe most of those problems weren’t noticed by most people, but one person did notice it, so I went back and edited it.

That is something I hope to avoid, since I want to move forward, and fixing things I already did is kind of looking back.

I did get this finished. I was also slowed down because it’s tax season in our country, and I should have dealt with this stuff much earlier. But I have quite a complex situation, plus my organizational skills are atrocious. But that’s enough of that.

Final Thoughts

Because of all these fixes, my VN has improved this week, and yet I feel like nothing was accomplished. I am unhappy that I need to fix errors and mistakes. I expect things not to be perfect, and hope that I am constantly improving. But these mistakes are things that I should not have done, and should have caught earlier.

Next update is on the 16th of April.

As always, enjoy life.
