Dev Diary #324: Painting Woes

Hello everyone, welcome to the very exciting first Dev Diary for this month! I've been hard at work putting some of the ideas from our dear friend Moonflow into the game. Implementation wasn't hurdles however, but I'm going to detail this all below. So, without further ado: The New UI!

As you can see, the sidebar now displays its basic information all within the same line, allowing to save a whole lot of real estate. Additionally, all the options for the Sidebar display are now available, with the (WIP) buttons allow players to switch seemlessly instead of going within the Settings screen to change between each displays. This also means the option to switch no longer exists within the Settings screen and that the old "None" option is also gone. Implementation is not final and there are things I still need to work (like handling money values higher than $999,999) and feedback is more than welcome on this new interface.

Now for the funnier reason why progress was slower; the main screen background. As I implemented the new faded colours backgrounds, the behaviour of the main screen was rather... peculiar.

As you can see on those screenshots, the background would not necessarily extend all the way down the main screen or, in some scenarios, would tile itself. The fix for this was rather esoteric and I actually only found it today, but this particular puzzle was one I tried working out (notably) with Moonflow and AWolfe.

In other news, I've also done some minor tweaks to the backend, some of which related to other UI changes and some just being mild optimizations to old code. My plan for this week is going to finalize the sidebar code and also working on either working on Travel Code 3.0 or refreshing the Reminders screen, a project currently under the capable hands of Moonflow.

See you all next week!
