I think I like the sketch more, even the early pose concepts felt stronger than what I ended up with. The hair flow and colors had better contrast, but they didn’t really fit the idea I shifted to later (and Tenma didn’t look much like Tenma). Looking back at the timelapse, it’s obvious there wasn’t a clear direction, so I should focus more on brainstorming and having a solid vision from the start. My best drawings always come from a clear idea, and whenever I’m just lacking inspiration, I end up unsatisfied.
I also feel like the first drawing concepts were stronger, but I struggled with anatomy and composition. In hindsight, it probably would’ve been better to leave it for a day or two, let my brain reset, and come back to the idea with a fresh perspective.
On another note, Tenma seems like a good study subject for me. I really enjoyed drawing Lumi since she hits all the boxes for what inspires me, but with loli or loli-like characters I usually struggle. Their anatomy always feels off, and I tend to draw them curvy with small heads anyway. This is only my second time drawing Tenma, and while I definitely learned a lot, there’s still plenty of room for improvement.
