Flight 172 is a slow-burning adult visual novel where the branching paths are as jagged as the coastline.

Welcome Passengers of Fligth 172!

I'd like my very first 172 Patreon post to be for setting expectations.

When it comes to any long-term project, it is important to manage the expectations of everyone involved. Too high of expectations and when release comes around readers are doomed for disappointment (just ask Peter Molyneux). On the other hand, too low of expectations and readers lose interest and forget about the project entirely.

Who is Grizzlebubs?

Hello ladies and gentlemen. This is your captain speaking. On behalf of Grizzlebub Games and out crew (it's just me), welcome aboard Flight 172! Allow me to introduce myself. First and foremost, I'm a software developer by day and an AVN developer by night. I've been developing in one form or another for the last 20 years. Fun fact, my first game was actually on a TI-83+ Graphing calculator by in high school. I can't say much more than that regarding my day job (NDAs and all), but I will say it's boring stuff.

Many of you now are probably doing the math, and yes, I'm 39 years old, which does make me quite old relative to the AVN development community.

This does create some unique advantages and disadvantages that other AVN developers don't have. Ignoring things like life experiences and what not, I want to focus on the disadvantages. Mainly because it is these disadvantages that will 'affect' you guys the most.
  • I've been happily married for seventeen years with an 11 years old son that I love with all my being. Though I hesitate to call this a disadvantage, it does complicate things in reference to rendering and developing an AVN.
  • While script writing and some coding can take place during the day while my son is awake, this is (obviously) not true with rendering. Rendering is limited to after he goes down to bed, starting at 10 PM and going until I die of exhaustion. Considering I have a day job, you can imagine that my development time is a lot less than the more traditional AVN developer.

I know many will put two-and-two together and ask... well, then why create an AVN in the first place? I've enjoyed AVNs for a long time and even prior I enjoyed dungeon mastering and crafting weird and harrowing stories for my players. Being an AVN developer is a lot like being a dungeon master, I have a story I want to tell, and I'm excited to share it with all my players!

When??

This is where honesty and openness come into play. I fully understand a lot of people are passionate about the AVNs they enjoy and want to read them as soon as possible. When will the Prologue be released? I don't know, I am hoping for a late 2026 to early 2027 release, but I can't put a pin in it. This ultimately depends on how quickly I get a hang of animation, rendering and the entire development process.

Why Subscribe?

If you see the vision and believe in the unique story that I want to make, then any amount is appreciated! The truth is, I want for Flight 172 to be like no other AVN you've experienced. There will be romance, intrigue, heartbreak, death and betrayal. It is ultimately a story of hope and of the strength of human endurance. A story of passion, as those left in the wreckage must learn to love and support each other. In a 'dog eat dog world', the survivors must learn that it isn't always about being the bigger dog... but about being the better human.

Every survivor will leave this story affected by this tragedy in one way or another... some more than others... and some may not even survive...

I'll keep posting regular updates including renders here, but if you want to be a part of my discord community and attend one of my routine streams, join our Discord Server.

Culture Log 03 - Who is Dani Roberts?

Good evening, passengers of Flight 172!

As with our previous character logs, let us kick things off with a quick recap of our Female Leads and the core themes their stories explore:

• Alyssa and Zero: Accepting oneself, flaws and all

• Cassie: Losing oneself and standing at the crossroads between vengeance and forgiveness

• Celeste: Navigating guilt and grief from afar

• Charity:The fragile, path toward healing after loss

• Grace: Humanity's fierce perseverance in overcoming one's weaknesses

• Julia: Emotional maturity and learning to express complex feelings positively

The Theme: Family

With Dani, we dive deep into how family dynamics and support systems (or a total lack thereof) shape us. Her story examines how loved ones can either build a strong foundation of emotional security or become a cage that dismantles your self-confidence and identity.

Who Is Dani Roberts?

Age: 31 years old

Eye Color: Brown

Theme Song: Erasure

Expected to be born a boy named Daniel to inherit the prestigious Roberts and Roberts Law Firm, Dani was deemed a failure by her father, Renauld, the moment she was born female. Rejection was immediate. Rather than being raised as the primary heir, she was cast aside to the firm's head maid and her husband to raise under a temporary custody arrangement.

Growing up as a Roberts in name only, Dani was provided for, yet emotionally isolated and constantly reminded of her precarious standing within the Firm. When her parents eventually welcomed a male heir, Dani became entirely expendable. To quietly push her out of the Firm's inner circle, her mother arranged a job for her as a flight attendant with one of their partner companies, Air Apparent. For an introvert woman raised in the shadows, the highly social environment was overwhelming, forcing Dani to survive by learning to stay invisible.

How Does Dani Fit into the Story?

Dani plays a crucial, multi-layered role both before and during the events of Flight 172. As an active flight attendant of Air Apparent Flight 172, Dani serves as the reader's primary lens into the operational side of the aircraft. While other characters experience the flight as passengers, Dani provides access to the crew quarters, pre-flight preparations, and the backstage dynamics of the airline industry.

Early on, her interactions with Xander and the rest of the cast are strictly professional, masked behind the polite, trained smile of someone desperately wanting to blend into the background.

Dani isn't just a standard cabin crew, however. Thanks to specialized training, she has been assigned as the Commercial Flight Nurse for a high-profile, high-risk passenger: Cassie Pearce. Balancing standard flight attendant duties with the immense responsibility of acting as Cassie's medical escort puts an extraordinary amount of pressure on her right from the start.

Beyond her official duties, Dani's oppressive family obligations loom large over her decisions. Her story is defined by a desperate balancing act. When crisis strikes aboard Flight 172, Dani will be forced out of the safety of the shadows. Will the cumulative stress cause her to sink, or can she finally break free from her family's cage and swim?

Culture Log 02 - Who is Celeste Foster?

Good Morning, Passengers!

Before we get started, I'm reposting these from my Patreon just so the content will be here as well. So if they "read" out of order... that's because they are!

Who Is Celeste Foster?

Age: 22 years old

Eye Color: Emerald Green

Born and raised on a small farm in Old River, Celeste and her father moved to the town of Cinder Tree after her mother's passing. It was there that Celeste met their new next-door neighbor, Xander, who helped them move in next door. From then on, Xander and Celeste were as thick as thieves, doing pretty much everything together.

Celeste quickly grew to cherish her friendship with Xander, and after pursuing him for the better part of high school, she was finally successful in catching Xander's attention not just as a friend, but a lover. Unfortunately, like many high school romances, theirs did not end happily. No one other than those involved know exactly what happened to derail their relationship, because neither Celeste nor Xander speak about their breakup. Regardless of the circumstances, Celeste continues to try and rekindle that friendship they once had.

Celeste is a gangly little country girl who isn't afraid to get dirty and make messes. Though she played guitar within her high school band, she didn't exactly like the competitive aspects of band competitions. This didn't deter her from pursuing a degree in Music Education and is currently in the final semester before graduating. When she's not studying or enjoying nature walks, she loves creative writing, drawing and baking.

How does Celeste fit into the story?

I recently did a poll asking who the first character showcase should be. And though Charity Davis won (followed by Grace Myers), I requested if I could start with Celeste Foster first. There is a reason for this, Celeste is the most unique Female Lead of the seven current Female Leads. She's unique in that she is the only Female Lead that will not be on the island.

This brings me to my topic on how Celeste fits into a story that is taking place on an isolated island that she will never set foot on. For anyone who has been paying attention, whether on Discord, Itch or Patreon, I've made a concerted effort to describe the romanceable female characters not as Love Interests. This could just be pedantic on my part, but the female characters in Flight 172 play a much larger role in the story than just 'holes to fill.' They aren't just Love Interests; they are the Female Leads of the story.

As I described in the synopsis, readers can expect to experience the tragedy of Flight 172 through all of the perspectives of the hapless heroes and heroines. Though Xander is the only Male Lead, he will not be the only one you'll be making decisions for. This is one of the reasons "Female Protagonist" and "Multiple Protagonists" are tags for Flight 172.

As the story unfolds, you'll experience how Celeste and Tiffany (Xander's mother) cope and try to carry on after their lives were upended. On the surface Celeste's story might appear to be a classic story of unrequited love mixed with the grief of longing for what was once but now can never be. However, the choices you make for her will not just shape her future, but also Xander and the other Female Lead's futures. How will Celeste's life change now that the love of her life is dead? How will she respond to all her friends and family's superficial words of sympathy?

Time may heal all wounds, but the scars they leave will remain forever.

Until next time!

Culture Log 01 - Who is Julia Stewart?

Good evening, passengers of Flight 172!

It has been a hot minute since our last Culture Log, so let's dive right in! Before we get into the nitty-gritty of who Julia Stewart is, let's take a quick look back at our previous character deep-dives for Alyssa (and Zero), Celeste, Charity, and Grace.

The Theme: Emotional Maturity

As I have driven home before, and will continue to emphasize, every Culture Log explores a different facet of the human condition:

• Alyssa and Zero explore the struggle of accepting oneself, flaws and all.

• Celeste explores guilt and grief from afar.

• Charity explores the fragile path toward healing after loss.

• Grace examines humanity's fierce perseverance in embracing and overcoming disabilities.

While I don't want to bang the same drum over and over, you will definitely notice similar narrative threads weaving throughout all the girls' routes. This shared resonance is entirely intentional, as it serves as one of the core pillars of Flight 172.

Who Is Julia Stewart?

Age: 27 years old

Eye Color: Sectoral Heterochromia

Theme Song: Rusty Nails and Butterflies

Julia Stewart is the youngest of four children and the only daughter born to Rebecca and Austin Stewart. While her mother initially envisioned a future filled with dress-up, tea parties, and playing house, Julia preferred roughing it outside with her three older brothers. Her childhood became a routine of cuts, bruises, and urgent care visits until high school, when she traded tiaras for batting helmets and found her true passion: fastpitch softball.

She wasn’t just good at the sport; she was exceptional. Julia earned a full ride to Cinder Tree University, dominated the collegiate scene as the nation's top catcher, and became a household name after leading the Emberhawks to a Women’s College World Series victory. After graduation, she channeled that fierce competitive drive into the Business Intelligence sector. She joined SmartWorks Incorporated as a QA Engineer, quickly climbed the corporate ladder, and now serves as the Head Quality Assurance Liaison, seamlessly bridging the gap between customers and the development team.

How Does Julia Fit into the Story?

When building the cast for Flight 172, physical diversity was only the baseline; we have short and tall girls, skinny and thick girls, blondes, brunettes, gingers, and raven haired. True diversity means varying the actual game mechanics for each character. We've already discussed how Zero's opinion of Xander dynamically alters Alyssa's route, but Julia introduces an entirely different spin.

Julia is a competitor to her core. Everything is a contest. If Xander and Julia were both hooked up to heart monitors, she would genuinely try to compete for the lower resting heart rate. While brainstorming how to properly capture this intense energy within the narrative, the perfect solution hit me: Quick Time Events (QTEs) and Mini-Games.

Julia's route will be heavily influenced by these interactive moments. She will literally compete with the reader. Depending on whether she wins or Xander wins, her reactions, behaviors, and the story itself will change.

Now, let's pump the brakes for a second, because I know a lot of readers actively dislike QTEs and mini-games. Rest assured, all QTEs and mini-games are completely optional and can be toggled off. If you choose to turn them off, you will simply be treated to the canonical result of each event (some will be wins, others will be losses) so you can enjoy the story stress-free.

For those who do play them, my approach might be a bit different than what you're used to. I am treating these events not as 'success or failure' barriers, but as branching choices. When it comes to Julia, there are no wrong options or game-over screens; losing to her will be just as narrative-rich and rewarding as winning against her. I should add a quick caveat here: while the wider game does feature some high-stakes QTEs with life-threatening consequences, those are completely separate from Julia's relationship-based mechanics.

I have some incredibly unique ideas in store for Julia and Xander, and I can't wait for you to experience them.

Until next time!
