Harley's Edge

I've been radio silent quite a bit lately, and it's mainly due to prepping for Halloween as well as the Major Studio Release. After quite a long time both are just about ready. I have one more animation to finish for Halloween and then I can start on final lighting and VR settings for the Major Studio Release.
For Halloween we'll have 7 videos this year. Halloween releases will begin on the 26th next week and release every day to November 1st. It's been a crazy amount of work getting these set up, but it's been very rewarding. We'll have releases from SFMPOV, Beastly Joe, SaveAss, Lazy Procrastinator, Jeckylll, Kaeg, and Shmopla. It's going to be a real treat (no tricks, I promise).
Once we've released our Halloween videos I'll begin final touches on our last Major Studio Releases, and then we'll be switching over to VRAR's. I'm very excited to take this next step, as we're all looking forward to make your requests happen and get to regular workflow. Myself and some other staff members have agreed that the MSR's take too long and become stagnant between artists, and this change will ensure faster releases with YOUR chosen characters. I will miss the polls we used to do, but this will be a happy compromise for everyone.
I'm really enjoying working with Cunnimatrix on these female point of view videos. There will be more to come in the future as we solidify our work flow together. As she becomes faster and more acquainted with Blender, we'll kick out more and more videos.

Giving Harley Her Nightcap

This was first animation where I realized I could improve the quality of my videos even further during post. And I don't mean just our 8K releases, but across all resolutions. Unfortunately, this scene is already quite dark, and it came out even darker in VR. In testing different profiles I came to realize what a massive difference in color there was from one render to another. I also forgot to utilize the new masking technique I learned a couple weeks ago! This was quite disheartening, especially with how long it takes to finalize scenes with the new test results.
That aside, after weeks of testing, the days of color banding and poor bit depth are gone. From now on, 8K is here to stay, and in a very big way. The videos I'm releasing Friday will be the last ones to have less than perfect color banding. And although 4K and 1080p won't be able to reach the true bit depth with no color banding that I'm so excited for, it will still see better quality due to upsampling on our releases. This is a win in so many ways.
I'm very excited for the new rise in quality, and can't wait for you all to see what I've come up with so far. Thank you all for your continued support! We're that much closer to getting a new computer for faster rendering!
