This was a blast to work on, although it took almost an entire week to render. Transparency light paths in Blender are no joke!
Myself and the team will be taking next week off, and then we'll be right back with Halloween videos lasting a little over two weeks. Those of you who have been with us for years know how much myself and the team treasure Halloween, so we have plenty of videos in the making. Hell, if I could do Halloween VR all year round I would. Some of you who have already seen our WIP's on Discord, but their's even more than that to come. So we'll see you when we get back.

Curing the Couch Potato
"Half past noon, and you haven't gotten up off the couch. You slept here too. It's just really comfy. Mercy, that sweetheart, she's teasing that you need to get up and go get a job. Nah. But Mercy will do what she needs to get you moving."
I had planned on releasing this yesterday but got caught up in work. The latest Blender release I'm working on is taking all week long, and coupling that with the Major Studio Release starring Elastigirl finally getting in my lap, I've been swamped.
I really wanted to send out between 5-8 animations for Halloween but with how long render times are I'll be lucky if I can do just 3-4. I'm actually being LIMITED by render times! But its out of my hands, so I'll keep trudging along. Hopefully someday we'll be able to afford a second Blender computer, and then I'll effectively double my release schedule. Or at the very least, be able to work on small animations while long ones like the current project can render.

At-home Squire
"You polish her armor, file away the scrapes in her shield, and most importantly - help her undress from her bulky powersuit as soon as she gets home. Hardest part is getting her big butt out of the hip armor... without getting hard yourself."
This scene was pretty intense, but extremely worthwhile to setup for VR. Ironically, I have another video rendering as we speak that utilizes the same scene build, albeit with different lighting, and it's taking almost 3 times as long just because of what is visible in the scene build. There are so many transparencies, which can take forever to render. A beautiful scene build to be sure, but a real pain to render in Blender.

She Found Her Equal
"The giantess of Castle Dimitrescu got bored of squishing little Ethan Winters every day. He was a fun plaything at first, but far too delicate. Everything changed when the Alliance deployed this absolute chad of an agent to rescue Winters. Finally, the Lady had found her equal."
I have to admit, I couldn't help but worry as this rendered. It was a very long animation that took almost an entire week! I'm still getting used to not "needing" to put out 4+ animations a week, so there were a couple days where I felt like pulling my hair out. Adding to that, there were certain things that just wouldn't work in VR as well as a couple of "bugs", and I was at wit's end... but it's done, albeit with a couple modifications. The animation's ending had to be shortened just a little and a couple changes had to be made, but nothing too noticeable. I also learned a couple of things I actually didn't know before this project, and I'll definitely remember them for down the road.

Celibacy's Breakable Bond

When Kaeg and I were coming up with a new video idea, he mentioned Sally Whitemane as a possible choice and I jumped on it. She was one of my favorite villain's from WoW. We had some problems with sound so this almost didn't release this week, but Karissa and Luriam came through last minute!
With this releasing as late as it has, and the longer project starring Alcina Dimitrescu having some issues beyond just the long rendering time, I'm not sure if I'll be able to release multiple videos next week. With me finally taking more time for myself, I've been much, much happier but I'll be working over the weekend just to make sure Lady D releases on time! I do love Lady D, so I'm not complaining. Sometimes with work you just have to put in extra hours. Just an FYI that it might be another slow week again (with a much longer release) due to unforeseen circumstances.
That all said, progress is coming along on the major studio release. I anticipate finally getting my hands on it for final lighting and VR setup within the next couple of weeks, then we'll be adding music and final touches. Maybe in time for Halloween? We'll see. Thank you all for your support.

Park Service

I'm having a great time being able to focus on just the lighting and direction with each release. Initially I wanted to hire someone to take over the lighting as being the director I've always tried to take on too much. But now that I have a great team to work with, as well as more time to complete each video, our releases are better looking over all while allowing me to pursue what I love: lighting and VR.
I've never lit up a park scene before and this was quite difficult at first. When I was first "done" initially, I realized something just wasn't right. It took me a while, but I finally figured it out: a park would have other light sources in the distance, even if it's a remote part of the park. Once I added some other background lights, it all came together, especially in VR.
Thank you all for your support. You make this possible, and we couldn't do this without you.

P.S. I've lowered the framerate of the preview gifs for each release. Are they loading better for you? I don't like how much they jump with less frames, but they seem to be loading much faster and use up less space over all.

Elizabeth After a Bath

With recent events in my life there's been a slow down in work over the past couple weeks, but things will be going back to normal soon. I'll get back to 3 releases a week, which will make for a much better schedule. I'm still waiting to hear back from Secazz on a recent Lady Dimitrescu WIP I posted on the Discord. There's some textures that are missing from the .blend that I need from him before I can continue, so there's only 1 animation this week instead of 2. I'll be shelving that 1 until I hear back from them, but when I do we'll be sure to get it released.
We've made a lot of progress on the Major Studio release over the past couple of months. One of our staff members stepped down from their position right as they were beginning work on it, and that caused a very long pause in any progress, but we're right back on track. I can't wait to get this out to you, as it's our biggest and best release yet, as well as our last Major release in SFM. Once it's out, all future Major Studio Releases will be in Blender. Very, very exciting.
One more announcement. Blueberg has officially joined the team and will be helping us with weekly releases from now on. We've been working with Blueberg since almost day one, so it's great to have them onboard.

Madam's Happy Ending
"She runs one of the finest massage parlors in the city. Its reputation takes work to uphold. To set an example, the Madam frequently maintains her own proficiency in "matters of intimate relaxation" by taking on a select customer herself."
Things have been a little tough for me lately, as my SO and I recently said goodbye to one of our fur-babies. We'd lived together with her since we first started dating, so this was very hard for me. I've been taking a little time off to grieve, but things will continue on like normal, if at a slightly slower pace for a little bit. Most likely I'll have 2 animations for all of you instead of 3 next week, but there's a small chance of only 1 being ready by then. I'm just waiting on Secazz to get back to me with some textures, and if so then I'll have 2.
This particular animation was a perfect opportunity to practice some of the lighting techniques I'd learned from recent online courses. I wanted to improve on what PL had already done, as the lighting was already quite believable and good, but I knew that in VR it needed to be taken to the next level; in the past I've only dealt with toneMapScale in SFM, but with Blender I am much more able to mess with gamma and exposure BEFORE things are rendered out. I'm making no excuses for my poor lighting in the past. It's up to the artist to make due with the tools they have at hand!
Knowing I wanted to have some true, realistic light sources coming from the outside back windows, I knew I had to lower exposure all the way down, then kick all the back lights up to a realistic setting, as they should be the brightest lights in the room. Once done, this made for some better, more believable rim lighting around you and Madam M. Of course, I cheated a little on different parts of the background to lend itself to a better composition through the scene build, but it's still a better look overall.

A real fun one, this was! I had extra time to work with for once and decided to change the scene build to better fit. The existing one was just a bland sky with you and her staring at literal nothing, so I found a couple things to better match the idea of you and Ashe "working" together and spread them out for some better scene composition.

Corpo Counter-Espionage
"Ah hah! You caught Panam at it again- sneaking into the data master control and downloading sensitive critical information for her clients. Your job in the corporate counter-espionage taskforce must be a good one if you get to apprehend such beautiful criminals. Although, she convinced you to let her go free... again."
I'm always glad for a commission, as that extra support helps the studio to grow further. This video did require a lot of work; getting the camera right, fixing clipping/posing and making sure the animation flowed naturally from the slightly different VR POV. And, as I'm only lightly experienced in NLA animation, it took way longer than I thought it would. Now, all that said, it looks amazing and Panam's ass is just huge. I prefer more of a natural look for characters, but if you like big asses then this one's for you. I'm definitely happy with this and how it turned out.

It was pretty exciting to finally work with Bewyx on some of their work. Not only are they a talented artist, but they come up with some pretty interesting situations.

Blacklight Forensics
"The Corpo investigators searched around the scene of the crime: a computer hack, performed on-site and right under the boss' nose. UV forensics revealed surprising details about the scene, though. White stains on the floor and the walls..."
I didn't expect this session to be that difficult to get through. And it wasn't until I started trying test renders to check the position, scale, and just overall scene. But wow, fireflies everywhere. I must have spent half a day just trying to figure out the source! In the end, I never actually figured it out. I mean, it was something caused by lighting (obviously) but I don't know what exactly. Even weirder, it only showed up in stereoscopic samples. In non-stereoscopic scenes, it was fine. This is one of the few examples of something I miss from SFM. I never had to deal with the odd, unexplained fireflies. But damn if the quality isn't amazing.
Regardless of all that, the scene IS done.

Wild Thing

As my first Death Stranding scene in VR, I am pretty thrilled how this turned out. There were certain things I had to change from the original, but overall it's still a fairly organic experience.

Velvet Revolver
One of the finest handguns on the market. You want it, and Judy knows where to get it. The velvet lounge behind the gun runner's club was so easy for you to break into that y'all decided to fill the extra time with some fun. The victim won't find his prized revolver tomorrow but he WILL find stains on the satins.
It's been a while since I converted something of Domino the Cat's, so it was quite rewarding for me to bring this into VR. Especially since it's Cyberpunk.

I've been talking about rendering out longer animations, and over the next couple of weeks this will be the case. I'll have a couple shorts as well (such as this one), but I'm very excited to start pursuing more complex animations as they come up. That said, because of the length (30ish seconds instead of 10 second loops) it's slowing down my ability to render out MORE animations. So that's why there's only 2 instead of 3 this week. I'm hoping for 3 next week, but it will depend on render times. That said I'm very excited to be doing Nioh and Death Stranding content for longer animations!

I'm really glad to have switched to a slower moving schedule. A month ago this animation wouldn't have happened. It was a very complicated animation to get working in VR, only because the scene was crazy in terms of memory usage. I had to remove quite a few props that weren't in sight, and even then it almost didn't work. Thank you to all of you for your patience with us slowing things down a little. Life isn't chaotic anymore, and the extra time allowed made it possible to bring you this gem.
