Introducing Characters | #2 Moemiti Arzu (CrPr)

Arzu is a 18-year-old young woman with an introspective nature, quiet and emotionally reserved.

Although she does not speak much or openly express her feelings, she is a deeply gentle and noble soul, someone incredibly perceptive of details, especially thanks to her heightened senses.

Her usual way of expressing herself is through simple gestures: Staring, looking away, or smiling out of instinct. She often appears drowsy and distracted, lost in her own internal world.

If it wasn’t clear enough in the novel, I’ll make it more evident now...
The condition Seina speaks of —what Arzu lives with— is autism. More specifically, Level 2 Autism.
Arzu is extremely sensitive to loud noises, bright blinding lights, and physical contact.

When eating, she needs her ingredients separated to avoid them mixing. She frequently prefers to eat puréed foods, similar to those given to babies.
Her daily routine remains the same to prevent complications, and she’s incredibly organized with her belongings. Seeing her things out of place genuinely upsets her.
Whenever she felt overwhelmed by the world, she used to hit her head against the wall or floor in desperation, until her mother taught her to hum and rock herself gently back and forth as a way to calm down.
As a child, she didn’t speak at all. Now, as she’s grown, she speaks... though in a limited capacity, at least when her technique is not active...

So, what is her technique? Let’s talk about the ability she uses in the arena when combat begins:

Luna recognized Arzu’s unique intelligence and natural curiosity, and saw great potential in her. However, her autism made it difficult for her to function in the arena or during training.

In a moment of vulnerability, Arzu begged her mentor to help her overcome that challenge.

In Arzu’s own words, her “condition” only ever pushed away those she cared for the most. So Luna helped her develop the technique she now uses at the start of every fight:

Equinox Technique— Reverie Esoteric Art: Hypnagogia.

Hypnagogia allows Arzu to self-induce a state between wakefulness and sleep, a way to "mute" the world that overwhelms her.

This state helps her stay focused, temporarily reducing her hypersensitivity and autistic traits in battle, making her appear “ordinary,” if only for a moment.

Hypnagogia can be interrupted, waking Arzu from her trance and leaving her vulnerable until she can reactivate it.

To activate it, she must be in a state of calm.
To break it, you can expose her to intense light, loud sounds, or shake/hurt her enough to snap her out of it.

As a precaution, Arzu tends to avoid moving much while in Hypnagogia, choosing instead to defend herself with a wide array of techniques and expert hand-to-hand combat. After all, in a dream world, anything is possible!

I truly hope you enjoyed Arzu as much as I did creating her.

Without a doubt, she’s been my favorite secondary character so far, and I really hope I get to keep working on her story in the future! Especially by revealing the technique she uses against Grisselette: Lullaby.

Arzu es una joven chica de 18 años de naturaleza introspectiva, silenciosa y emocionalmente reservada.

A pesar de no hablar o demostrar abiertamente sus sentimientos, es una persona muy gentil y un alma noble, alguien sumamente perceptiva con los detalles, especialmente, gracias a sus agudizados sentidos.

Su manera usual de expresarse es a través de gestos simples: Mirar fijamente, desviar la mirada, o sonreír por instinto. A menudo se le nota soñolienta y distraída— perdida en su propio mundo interno.

Si no fue lo suficientemente claro en la novela, ahora me encargaré de hacerlo más evidente...

La condición de la que Seina habla —aquella con la que Arzu vive— es el autismo. Más específicamente, Autismo de Grado 2.

Arzu es extremadamente sensible a los ruidos altos, luces intensas y al contacto físico.

A la hora de comer, requiere que sus ingredientes estén separados para evitar que se entremezclen. Constantemente, prefiere comer papillas, similar a las que son dadas a los bebés.
Su rutina diaria es permanece siempre igual para evitar complicaciones, y es extremadamente organizada con sus pertenencias. Ver sus cosas fuera de lugar le molesta genuinamente.
Cuando fuera que se sintiera agobiada por el mundo, tenía la tendencia a golpear su cabeza contra la pared o el suelo en desesperación, hasta que su madre le enseñó a tararear y mecerse adelante y atrás para calmarse.
Cuando niña, no hablaba en absoluto. Ahora, más crecida, lo hace de manera limitada, al menos cuando no tiene activa su técnica...

Entonces, ¿cuál es su técnica? Hablemos de la habilidad que utiliza en la arena al comenzar el combate:

Luna reconoció la inteligencia única y naturaleza curiosa de Arzu, y vio gran potencial en ella. Sin embargo, su autismo le impedía desenvolverse en la arena o durante entrenamientos.

En un momento de vulnerabilidad, Arzu le suplicó a su maestra ayudarle a solucionar dicha problemática. En palabras de la propia Arzu, su “condición” solamente terminaba alejando a quienes más ella estimaba. Así que Luna le ayudó a desarrollar la técnica que utiliza al iniciar el combate.

Técnica del Equinoccio— Arte Esotérico de Ensueño: Hipnagogia.

Hipnagogia le permite a Arzu autoinducirse en un estado entre el sueño y la vigilia, una manera de “silenciar” el mundo que tanto la abruma.

Este estado le permite mantener su foco de concentración, mitigando temporalmente su hipersensibilidad y rasgos autistas en batalla, volviéndola alguien “ordinaria”, aunque sea solo de manera temporal.

Hipnagogia puede ser interrumpido, despertando a Arzu de su sueño y dejándola vulnerable hasta que la pueda activar nuevamente.

Para su activación, debe estar apaciguada.
Para despertarla, basta con exponerla a intensas luces incandescentes, sonidos muy elevados, o moviéndola/lastimándola lo suficiente.

Como medida de precaución, Arzu tiende a evadir el moverse para no despertarse en medio de Hipnagogia, eligiendo mejor defenderse con una gran variedad de técnicas y una maestría en combate cuerpo a cuerpo. Después de todo, ¡cualquier cosa es posible dentro del mundo de los sueños!
