Summer In The City: Season Two - Development News #1
Hi everyone,
sorry for being rather quiet lately, I'm currently dealing with a nasty case of a Winter depression. Happens every few years. It gets better eventually, no need to worry. Working on Season Two keeps me occupied at least. And oh boy, is there a lot of work, let me tell you. Today I'd like to share some infos and show you some stuff I've been working on these last two months. Let's jump right into it!
Renders
I've finished roughly 60% of all renders for the first episode. As mentioned in a previous post, I decided to double the original resolution for all renders and then downscale to Full HD afterwards in order to generate sharper, more crisp looking images. There's one downside though, the increase in resolution also comes with an increase in rendering times, which naturally makes it more time consuming. It's gonna be worth it though. Summer and her friends have never looked this good in-game. I'm also utilizing more post-editing methods in order to increase the image quality even further, making them more appealing visually. Here are some preview screenshots. Let me know if you notice an increase in image quality. I'm genuinely interested in hearing your opinion.
I'm struggling with creating animations quite a bit, not gonna lie. It's the most tedious shit, pardon my French, I've ever had to deal with. To all animators out there, you have my utmost respect for putting up with this. Seeing Summer and the bunch coming to life so to speak is a fun experience though and worth the hassle in my opinion. I will most likely share one or two previews in the next news segment for paid members.
Features
I use the term "features" loosely here because, well... it's a classic visual novel. It's not going to reinvent the wheel, but I am planning to improve on some features, like Summer's smart phone for instance.
I'm aiming for something you've seen in many other games in this genre. You will be able to access previous chats and sent images at any time as well as accessing the gallery, character sheets, etc. I'm already playing around with a new system. It's fun but needs a proper design and code overhaul first to fit my needs. I will share some previews as soon as I'm confident enough that I have what I was looking for.
I've already done achievements for Season One's Steam version, but we all know how this went *sigh*, so I never had the chance to utilize them. I'd like to change that with Season Two, implementing them right into the game. I yet have to figure out how to do that though, might even have to add them later in a subsequent episode depending on how difficult it will be. I'm not a programmer, mind you. Furthermore, I have also redesigned the choice buttons for big and semi-big decisions Summer will have to make: This particular screenshot is just a concept and still might be subject to change, but I really like it so far.
One other thing I'm working on is a new and fun animated intro sequence. Here's a remarkably unimpressive teaser screenshot:
Funding
Now for some not so great news unfortunately. Summer In The City Season One has been unjustly rejected by Steam on August 23rd 2025 as many of you are undoubtly aware. I have since tried find a proper home for Summer on GOG (massive thanks again for all the votes and comments on GOG's Dreamlist program).They haven't replied yet.
As of right now, SITC has no proper representation on any of the popular marketplaces except maybe itch.io. and I will have to assume that this will remain the case for the time being. The game hardly generates any revenue on itch.io. The game has been and still is de-indexed ever since the Collective Shout debacle in July 2025. Only participating in bundles keeps it from being being totally invisible on that platform. Summer In The City is basically 99% crowd funded as of now via Patreon and SubscribeStar and your contribution alone is keeping the franchise alive.
Despite all of your generosity, I am currently losing money developing Season Two. I am running a failing business here from a financial standpoint. People might consider me being crazy for putting up with it and I can't blame them, but this is my absolute dream job. I've never been so satisfied and excited with a job before as I am with developing SITC, regardless of all the stress inducing moments and the hardships this genre is facing nowadays. Reading the appreciation posts from many of you for Summer's silly adventures is something I don't want to miss in my life anymore. I'm putting all my hopes into the releases of Season Two's episodes to turn the ship around, but until then I will have to ask you for your patience and for keeping your support ongoing if you can afford it. And maybe I can persuade some free members to subscribe too. Every penny helps. I am aiming for a release of episode one in March.
Coming Next
Lilly's "Webcam Shenanigans" set will be released sometime this upcoming week for all paid members plus naughtier bonus images for Friends With Benefits and higher tiers. The poll for next month's special set will be held right after. I wish I could do more, but developing takes every minute of my time as you can imagine and I can't really afford to get sidetracked too much. There will be fun and sexy Valentine's Day renders next month though in addition to the monthly special set.
