Welcome to Detached 0.12.1 Public Release!

Sup folks!

So as of this update, I have started making PATCHES! No more downloading the ENTIRE game every month!

Yaaaaaaaaasssssss-uh!

That said, like mentioned in the last update, you need to be on 0.11.0 to use it, or else it's the full game for you!

This will continue going forward (0.12.0 needed for 0.13.0 patch etc.)

These patches will also be uploaded directly to Itch in the public version as well.

It's a new process, and I may have missed something, so if you notice anything, please let me know so I can correct it!

Patch install instructions:

Windows/Linux: Unzip. Drag and drop into the Detached root folder, then copy over any files when prompted.

Mac: Unzip. Drag and drop into the folder with the "game" folder (Detached.app > Contents > Resources > autorun), then copy over any files when prompted. There might be some issues that pop up with Mac that I'm not familiar with as I understand that they're finnicky when it comes to file management for apps. I am planning on picking up an older Mac for the purposes of troubleshooting and testing in the future.

  • Made adjustments to the History screen so that the lines of dialogue aren’t spread so far apart.
  • The sandbox portions now have dedicated Back buttons so you don’t have to scroll back!
  • Temporarily removed Zeke’s Jam Session in order to prevent an avoidable crash. It will be put back in when I finally having it running correctly.
  • Some minor grammatical errors fixed

0.13.0 Important Update and Player Opinion

Sup folks!

So 0.13.0 is an update that involves a lot of choice variant dialogue and unique renders based on these choices.

These choices are either made in the heat of the moment, or are a consequence of previous choices in earlier updates.

The differences are big, and are functionally entire events in themselves.
Between the time taken to make sure I bunker down and work, and life outside of work, things have been pretty tight lately (fatherhood, family life, (irl) work, friendships, etc.). This is a hobby, after all. All of these come first because I believe in work/life balance.

I'm likely going to need some extra time outside of my usual development cycle to complete all of them.

With every ongoing update going forward until all characters are accounted for Chapter 2's beginning, I do plan on having one Main Event paired with 6 character events split between 2 characters. This allows me to also add in extra important stuff. This includes stuff like new/different generic updates, tweaks/additions to QoL stuff, etc.

Either way , the extension is going to extend past my usual monthly update this update.

Madison's events have a ton going on, and Hanako's has a new major potentially one-off map and one of the aforementioned variations.

This leaves Bishop.

Both Madison and Hanako are tied into this update. Bishop is not. She's just a part of my original update plan.

Given my need to extend the development, should I extend the update from potentially Mid-July to the beginning of September (effectively much adding more content to the update overall)?
Or should I Develop through mid-July, then focus on Bishop content to correct the usual update progress?
All of the current future updates planned are mild main story progression, while also including initial ch2 events to each girl before I begin into the meat of Ch2.

tl;dr

I have to delay 0.13.0 either way, but should I release mid-July and develop until August for Bishop, or develop until September for more content?

Welcome to Detached 0.11.0 Public Release!


A fairly big update this time around!

As you all know, I took 2 weeks off of main development at the end of March.

A week of that was just "me time." The other week was me working on new non-story related stuff, a backlog of errors that needed fixing, and writing (I don't particularly find writing to be 'work' as I quite enjoy it).

Yay!

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 0.12.0:


AS OF 0.12.0, I am going to be working on tracking my progress and what files I work on so that I can make an update patch for return players.

Much like the compression versions I made with folks that have limited HDD space and bad internet, I understand that 9gb is... daunting and unnecessary for a trashy little visual novel like mine, so staring on 0.12.0, I should hopefully have a much smaller patch in which all you would need to do is drag and drop into the root folder of Detached in order to update.

The only caveat is that you would need to be on the previous version to be able to do this. So if you are 2 or more updates behind, it's the full game for you!

While it is beyond my current ability, I will look into automatic updates in the future. (This isn't going to be for a long time though.)

  • Temporarily removed some unused files that were causing a boot error on Macs.
  • Some minor grammatical errors fixed
  • Some minor bug fixes
