Kuchi and Teresa - sloppy squish
Jan 30, 2022
"So, is she...?"
Both Kuchi and Ruri glanced up at Teresa's curious inquiry, the considerably smaller Ruri feeling a nervous chill upon realizing that the question was directed at her. Not to her, but at-
"Ah. Ahh, Ruri is..." Kuchi paused in her blithe response to lean in closer to her redheaded friend, dropping her voice to a not-so-low whisper. "Ruri is one of those 'not for swallowing' friends."
Ruri scrunched her nose at the sympathetic look that crossed Teresa's face in response, her own cheeks starting to flush. "Hey, I'm right here, I can hear you. Stop saying it like it's embarrassing? I just don't like getting eaten, that's a normal thing!"
"Don't worry! It's okay." Smiling, Kuchi just gave her a gentle pat on the head with her fingertip, making Ruri's cheeks flush even more. "I don't mind."
"I do," Ruri mumbled, but keeping it under her voice as she ducked her head. She wanted to be annoyed at Kuchi for this, but it was hard to be, considering her Paeran friend was the one being considerate and not just eating her like all of her other tiny 'friends'. That, and she was just... cute, when she treated her like this...
The moment was interrupted by Teresa's cheerful voice, however.
"But we can still-"
"Oh, yeah! We can still play."
Ruri snapped her head back up, a fresh nervous dread hitting her. "Huh what? Wait, Kuchi... Wait! Put me down, play what?! Kuchi-!"
The first big project of the year, and with a little bonus blurb to go with it! 'Poor' Ruri, she's lucky in the fact that she's managed to befriend a few paerans that can mostly understand her fear of being eaten. Still, it's a bit harder for them to wrap their heads around not still treating her like food... (though she does kinda enjoy that, if not for the constant fear that one of them might just, y'know. Forget it's her)
Besides just being a concept I adore, this project is also a bit of a "then and now" comparison. The original 'sloppy squish' (with Sari and Wanda) was done over eight years ago! And much as I still love it, I also love being able to so plainly see how far along I've come as an artist. My skills have evolved, so has my style. I've learned a lot over those eight years. And it's nice to be able to see that I've learned and improved in that time.
