Devlog 30: A Talk
Hi! Today I just want to tell you about some of my thoughts. This isn't a full-blown devlog, since last week was taken up with some personal business and there was no time for development.
You know, I don't understand Halloween. It's such a strange holiday for me, and it feels maximally intrusive compared to the holidays I actually celebrate. Like, what's the point of it? Everybody dresses up as some kind of "monsters" and asks for candy for nothing? What the hell is that. Even though it's considered a children's holiday, everyone pays tribute to it, and that's strange. Especially people who draw NSFW — they have it as a law to constantly draw something in the Halloween spirit, and the same goes for games. Strange.
And so, while I was seeing all this Halloween spirit from every direction, a strange idea came to me: what if I added my own national holidays inside my games? A bit odd, but hear me out. Do you know the game The Witcher? If not, it's a Polish game where you play as a monster hunter in a medieval setting.
So, this game has a lot of strange monsters that usually don't show up in more or less popular fantasy. And these monsters — here's the interesting part — are a part of my country's folklore, and for us they're commonly known things, while the holidays are usually made in order to drive these monsters further away, or to cleanse yourself so as not to be attractive to monsters. And although most of the monsters and other spirits are evil, plenty of them don't attack if you don't disturb them (I think that, as in other countries, monsters are a representation of folk wisdom, so they always have rules). So what if… I make these monsters more… sexual, and add to the game "Life with the tribe" an event that has a slightly changed meaning but similar rites to a holiday, where the women will bathe in a lake to cleanse themselves, and our hero will have to pass a trial by fire in order to become clean enough for the cleansed women? It's a bit odd if you don't know what that holiday is, but an event this odd and unusual could be very interesting.
Or else a meeting with a monster that appears only on the night after the holiday, and this monster, instead of chopping off the head of whoever finds it, will abduct the traveller who met it in order to suck him dry? Heh-heh, if you dig around in your own nation's folklore you can find countless interesting things that are sometimes terrifying, but with an open mind you can make it sexual! Domovyky and chorty, leshy and witches, mavky and vodyanytsi — honestly, even though in some sense they'll be similar to plain monster girls, they can be played out in a completely different way!
This idea will most likely be realised in my games, and I'll try to add more interesting things and events. That's exactly why I'm telling you about it!
But I know that you're more interested in the actual build of the game that's in development. And honestly, right now I'm mostly busy with adjusting the sprites and animations and adding new objectives. Also, here's one more thing:

The world map is gaining colours and content. I never thought that coming up with a detailed and correct world map would be so hard. Sometimes you need to try doing something first, before you assess how long it'll take to complete.
That's all for today!

the map is beautiful as it is. and the fact there is further development for it is astonishing.
