Devlog 16 : Beard and news

Hi! Today's devlog is about news.

The main news — the main character of "Life with the tribe" will now have a beard (though he sacrificed his hair for it)!

But this will only be for the West version. In the other versions there will now be different toggles, rather than a full replacement of the characters like I planned earlier.

Why is that? Well, I've talked before about censorship on Western platforms, right? Every character that falls under the wrong criteria (cute face, no breasts) gets banned. Earlier I thought the only way out was to completely redraw the character to make him more "adult." But on Discord, subscriber @LordZamus said :
add him a beard

and it dawned on me. No, not even that — it was like a bolt of lightning.

THIS IS GENIUS! Now I won't need to draw two versions of every pose with different main characters, and it'll also be possible to switch between different types of girls! What am I talking about?

Well, since it's not only the game's main character who has a "problem" — there are other characters too — they'll need to be changed as well. Here, for example, are the improved versions of the throne guards:

As you can see, they've "bigger," and I think some players might even like this more than the original guards. Earlier I planned it so that guards like this would only have animations with the alternative version of the main character. But now, with the addition of the beard, I have the option to add a simple toggle in the settings, and you'll be able to change the look of the NPCs! But only in the Asia and Full versions.

Now let's move away from the beard and switch to something else. I'm currently planning DLC content and I have some ideas that could quite drastically change the look and feel of the game.
What am I talking about? Well, I have two global directions for the DLC:
  1. Expanding the game mechanics — simply enriching the mechanics I haven't been using to the fullest until now (fishing, battles, world exploration, etc.)
  2. Increasing the amount of H-content.

And this second point has caused some disagreements about the direction for increasing content. There are a couple of options I'm mulling over:

  • Increase the number of NPCs and keep the rule of 1–2 scenes per NPC.
  • Unify the NPCs and develop the ability to play all poses with each of them, while reducing the number of new NPCs to just a few.

These options aren't final yet — this is still the planning phase for this content — and I'm 100% sure you'll most likely want to have both. And honestly, I want to have everything at once myself, but that's quite hard to implement. Let me elaborate.

The first option aims to reach at least double the number of base NPCs just for the Tribe, not counting other NPCs like monster-girls or ones similar to the elf girl. This would make the number of quests bigger, and we'd have more girls fighting for leadership over the tribe (I'd have to expand the room a bit for this, or move the action right out onto the street). This was the basic expansion option for a DLC, and I consider it the most reliable in terms of development.

The second option aims to make the H-scenes more customizable, and you'll be able to choose what you want to see with the different girls (even with futanari!). But this unification would require a bit of redrawing of all the base characters to fit them to the base types (tall_1, tall_2, mid_1, mid_2, short_1, short_2, and the like). This would open up the ability to make more customization variations for characters, and it would also expand the relationship system that's planned.

Honestly, I like both of these ideas, but I still need to plan this out in more detail. I'm planning to try the second option and see how much time the unification of characters and fitting all the poses to it will take. In a sense I already have such a pose (in the battle for leadership, all the girls are in the very same pose), but fitting each of them will take time.

So what do you think about these ideas? Write in the comments or in the Discord channel — maybe your idea will help me find a more optimal path for development.
