1.11 Week 5 report

Hey guys! This week felt like a long one. I was feeling burned out on Friday evening, so I took the whole day off yesterday to recharge.
We did a whole bunch of things this week:
  • Victoria finished the expressions artwork. Jeff is now partway through processing the art into the game.
  • Mihail fixed some display issues with the new character sheet.
  • Plus a bunch of writing.

University writing update
The green part of the uni experience is now coded into the game (without art assets and skill rolls, and including lots of placeholder text).
This first part was the most complicated part (because it introduces new characters and new locations), so I expect the rest to flow faster over the next few weeks.
Sometimes when I’m deep in the writing, I lose my sense of whether a new scene is sexy or not. That’s how I felt on Friday; not confident that the new scenes were working. I knew I needed some space, to get some perspective.
Today I started a new game of Female Agent and played through it from scratch, rolling right into the new university scenes, trying to see them with fresh eyes. And honestly: it works pretty well, way better than I felt like it was working on Friday.
When you’re creating something, I think it’s a mistake to worry about whether other people will like it.  The best you can do is create something you yourself enjoy.   By that metric, the uni section is shaping up nicely. I really enjoyed playing FA today – the new narrative scenes feel like important character development, and the new sex scenes feel hot without feeling unbelievable, or undermining the heroine.
I’m excited about adding some more to it tomorrow. :-) I’m going to get to bed now so I can start nice and early! Take care, guys, and I’ll report on progress again next week.
