Neon Bay is an adult, text-based life sim with some light RPG elements. It's a near-future non-dystopian sci-fi game with some mild cyberpunk elements and a spicy twist. This originally started as a bit of a side project, but it's taken on a life of its own at this point. If you're familiar with games such as Corruption of Champions and Course of Temptation, this will be right up your alley.
I've always enjoyed sci-fi and cyberpunk themes, and I noticed a distinct lack of that type of thing in the NSFW game sphere (excluding sex and nude mods for Cyberpunk 2077, that is). I also love worldbuilding, writing, and, I'm sure this comes as no surprise, tabletop RPGs.
So here's what I've got built so far:
NPC generation - This might be my favorite part of the whole project. The NPC generator creates hundreds of unique NPCs with their own demeanor, vibe, style, preferences, identity, and so on. Oh, and did I mention that the game can (currently) handle up to 2,000 unique NPCs? Okay, that's not entirely true. I've had the game generate 50,000 for testing purposes, but it performs terribly afterwards. 2,000 is where I ended up limiting it so that the game didn't try to fry my computer. I may set the limit higher eventually (10,000 might be safe? Not sure).,
Conversation System - NPCs have real personalities, moods, and interests. Your charisma and social skills affect how conversations go, and some people just naturally click with you while others... don't. NPCs can also get bored or tired of talking to you, or sometimes they just won't want to talk to you at all (depending on their mood and such).,
Character creation - Make whoever you want to be, set your attraction preferences, and the game will highlight NPCs you might be interested in. I tried to be as inclusive as possible here, and honestly, there are probably more options available than there should be. You can choose everything from hair color to butt size to backstory that influences what skills and college degree you start with and more.,
Three city districts (for now) - The Mall, Suburbs, and Downtown are completely built out with a handful of locations each. I tried to keep things believable but also enough that you'll be able to take care of your character's needs and also meet NPCs where it makes sense. They have their own schedules of where they'll be and when. I've got a total of seven districts planned, so... yeah.
Relationships - Friendship, romance, and physical attraction all progress separately. You might become best friends with someone you're not romantically compatible with, or have intense chemistry with someone you barely know as a person.,
Career system - Right now there are a handful of jobs available for you to take on - bills have to be paid and your car isn't going to fix itself.,
Adult content - Yeah, there's sex, and it happens when it makes sense in a relationship or storyline. It's also interactive, because... duh.
A living city - This should come as no surprise to anyone, what with Living Skyrim and all. Random events, branching storylines, and the emergent drama that comes from juggling relationships. There's always something happening.
A bunch of other stuff - A smartphone with functional apps, time and weather systems, clothing and outfits, shopping and inventory, and skill checks, with a lot more planned for the future.
The real lifeblood of the game is the emergent gameplay from having so many NPCs available for you to interact with, and every playthrough feels different depending on who you are and what you're looking for. There's also stuff like setting your city's seed and customizing the demographics so you can have almost unlimited replayability.
If we want to get technical, this is an Early Access type thing because the core systems work and it's fun to play, but I've got plans for more districts, storylines, and features. I'm telling you about it now because I'm planning to release the first version in the couple of weeks, after I've put some polish on what's currently in the game and cleaned up the spaghetti code I've written in coffee-fueled bursts over the last month or so.
The game will be available for free on Windows and Linux (and maybe Mac if I can figure that out), with Patrons getting early access to future updates. I'll also probably be setting up a separate Patreon, Discord, and so on specifically for Neon Bay. I just thought the NSFW part of this server might be interested, so here it is.
Cheers.
