Hello everyone, and Happy New Year!
With Chapter 1 of Fiction Paradox finished and just 10 days away from its Steam release, we wanted to take a moment to look back at how this project came to life, and share where we're heading next as we begin work on Chapter 2.
The idea for Fiction Paradox was born in mid-2024, driven by a strong belief: the visual novel is one of the best formats to tell a story. It blends the immersion of cinema, the interactivity of video games, and the personal pacing of novels. All in one!
For several months, Dakno worked alone on early drafts of the story, characters, worldbuilding, and core mechanics. Not long after, Eón joined the project as the lead artist, and Naventu was born.
Although Fiction Paradox is our first game, we set out from day one to meet the highest quality standards we realistically could. >:)
Development officially began in January 2025. Eón focused on visuals: images and renders. Dakno handled everything else: programming, writing, direction, production, asset costs, and commissioning the original soundtrack.
We started from scratch. It took 4 months just to complete the first characters and the Prologue. During that time, we even designed a fully original environment that serves both as a narrative introduction and a way to establish the protagonist and gameplay systems.
However, as development progressed, it became clear that our original scope was too ambitious for a small, independent studio. To ensure the project's sustainability, we made two important decisions:
To further improve production speed and quality, a third team member joined in August: Lumen, in charge of 3D animations alongside images and renders.
At the same time, we increasingly ran into the technical limitations of Daz, the standard tool used by many AVNs. While final renders can look great, the workflow is often too slow and restrictive...
Animations were especially challenging. Even with modern hardware, Daz offered limited support and unreliable tools. We managed to complete the game's first NSFW scene through a lot of trial and error, but that experience made it clear we needed a better long-term solution.
By December, Chapter 1 was fully completed: polished, bug-fixed, and localized into English, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese. It offers around 2 hours of content, acting as the beginning of a much longer and evolving story.
Behind every character, location, and scene, lies extensive planning: design documents, research for plausibility, iteration after iteration to reach the quality we're aiming for, etc.
Our characters are unique because every detail matters to us: from facial features and body proportions, to hands, feet, skin texture, posture, and subtle gestures. We want them to feel believable and expressive, not generic. It may sound obsessive, but we believe it's worth it!
We'd love to release many more hours of content each time, but as a small team, we need to balance ambition with sustainability. If you'd like to support our work, the best ways are to:

Starting today, we begin the development of Chapter 2. 🔥
Our ideal target is to have it ready around May or early June, though depending on development and available resources, it may move to September or October. The success of Chapter 1 will play a key role here: more support means more resources, and faster development. :)
In parallel, we're planning a major technical shift: we aim to fully migrate our 3D pipeline from Daz to Blender, handling 100% of renders and animations there. The transition will take time, but once completed, it should significantly improve both productivity and visual quality, especially for animations.
The scope of the story will expand significantly in Chapter 2. You'll meet many new characters, deepen some relationships, and explore new sides of the world of Fiction Paradox. We're also planning several fully animated NSFW scenes.

Hello everybody! This time the progress report includes relevant news for the players, so we decided to make it public.
As you know, we designed Fiction Paradox to offer 4 romantic routes: male-female, female-male, male-male and female-female. Same story, different characters. That way, anyone can enjoy the story!
While this remains our vision for the long-run, we've made the decision to focus only on the male-female and female-female routes. That means: the main character can be a straight man or a lesbian woman, but all the romanceable characters will always be women (for now).
We are a small team of two people working on our spare time, and as you could see in the game's demo, we are very capable! We are committed to this project. But since we don't have much time and resources, we prefer to focus on less routes in order to offer a good quality game in a reasonable time.
The other reason for this change is that both of us (Dakno and Eón) feel attracted to women. That means, in order to do a good job with men, we have to constantly research and ask people for feedback. That slows our development, and we are also afraid we won't do as good job as we do with women.
In order to preserve the game's quality for the other routes, we think it's better to wait until we have more people and resources on Naventu's team. In the future, we will be happy to hire an aditional member to work on the female-male and male-male paths (or even bisexual path, as some of you already requested).
We really tried to maintain our ambition and start with 4 routes right away, but in the short-term this will be better for the project's success. If you were one of the players excited for these alternative routes, we're really sorry. But we plan do it in the future, so don't worry! :D
Fortunately, our game is well designed and organized. Adding the extra routes is much more easier than doing them from scratch! Most of the work will already be done, both on writing/code and art. :)
We were not happy with some aspects of Diana and Lu. These were our first characters, so after improving our skills in both modeling and rendering, we decided to apply some changes to them. Now they fit the plot better, and are even more attractive! >:)

The Fiction Paradox 0.1 release is on track to be launched before the end of 2025. It will include 3 chapters, but if development takes longer than planned, we may release it with just 2 chapters in order to ensure quality. In any case, we'll keep you informed!
The new dialogues, renders and music are in the making. We'll show you the third female character in a few weeks, and even a few sneak peaks of the first chapter (only for patrons ;3).

¡Hola a todos! Esta vez el informe de progreso incluye noticias relevantes para los jugadores, así que hemos decidido hacerlo público.
Como sabéis, hemos diseñado Fiction Paradox para ofrecer 4 rutas románticas: hombre-mujer, mujer-hombre, hombre-hombre y mujer-mujer. Misma historia, distintos personajes. Así, ¡cualquiera puede disfrutar de la historia!
Aunque esta sigue siendo nuestra visión a largo plazo, hemos tomado la decisión de centrarnos únicamente en las rutas hombre-mujer y mujer-mujer. Es decir: el protagonista puede ser un hombre heterosexual o una mujer lesbiana, pero todos los personajes románticos serán siempre mujeres (por ahora).
Somos un pequeño equipo de dos personas trabajando en nuestro tiempo libre, y como pudisteis ver en la demo del juego, ¡somos muy capaces! Estamos comprometidos con este proyecto. Pero como no tenemos mucho tiempo y recursos, preferimos centrarnos en menos rutas para poder ofrecer un juego de calidad en un tiempo razonable.
La otra razón de este cambio es que ambos de nosotros (Dakno y Eón) nos sentimos atraídos por mujeres. Eso significa que, para hacer un buen trabajo con los hombres, tenemos que investigar constantemente y pedir opiniones a la gente. Eso ralentiza nuestro desarrollo, y también tenemos miedo de no hacer un trabajo tan bueno como con las mujeres.
Para preservar la calidad del juego para las otras rutas, creemos que es mejor esperar hasta que tengamos más gente y recursos en el equipo de Naventu. En el futuro, estaremos encantados de contratar a un miembro adicional para trabajar en las rutas mujer-hombre y hombre-hombre (o incluso en la ruta bisexual, como algunos de vosotros ya habéis solicitado).
Realmente intentamos mantener nuestra ambición y empezar con 4 rutas desde el principio, pero a corto plazo esto es lo mejor para el éxito del proyecto. Si eras uno de los jugadores entusiasmados con estas rutas alternativas, lo sentimos mucho. Pero tenemos previsto hacerlo en el futuro, ¡así que no te preocupes! :D
Afortunadamente, nuestro juego está bien diseñado y organizado. Añadir las rutas adicionales es mucho más fácil que hacerlas desde cero. La mayor parte del trabajo ya estará hecho, tanto en guión/código como en arte. :)
No estábamos contentos con algunos aspectos de Diana y Lu. Eran nuestros primeros personajes, así que después de mejorar nuestras habilidades tanto en modelado como en renderizado, decidimos aplicarles algunos cambios. Ahora encajan mejor en el guión, ¡y son incluso más atractivas! >:)

La versión 0.1 de Fiction Paradox está previsto lanzarse antes de que termine 2025. Incluirá 3 capítulos, pero si el desarrollo se prolonga más de lo previsto, es posible que la lancemos con solo 2 capítulos para garantizar la calidad. En cualquier caso, ¡os mantendremos informados!
Los nuevos diálogos, renders y música están en curso. En unas semanas os mostraremos el tercer personaje femenino, e incluso algunos adelantos del primer capítulo (solo para suscriptores ;3).
