New plans going forward
tl;dr Gonna start making visual novels (or some form of interactive comics) for my adult works going forward. I would really love it if you guys reminded me of which pieces you loved the most, so I can begin a brainstorming in which stories I should really focus on.
I wrote this whole article frankly more for myself than anything else, feel free to ignore. But for those who care enough about what I'm going create, know that I'll be needing a lot more feedback from you guys in the future.
So due to tariffs and changes in the market landscape, I'm likely to be out of a job in the near future, and I was thinking about what I should be doing afterward.
Doing some reflection, my ultimate dream has always been to form an animation studio, producing both family friendly, and adult/pornographic stuff, and that's certainly not a dream I've given up on. My work on illustration and storytelling has always been a stepping stone toward that goal.
At the same time, when I look at the "first principles" of what I'm trying to achieve, it's really about telling great and engaging stories. I'm sure many of you can see that in my Lust work. So many of my works have a theme or scenario: snapshots of larger stories.
In fact, a big part of why I can often be quite slow at producing work, is because I always just HAVE TO have some kind of backing story behind the scene. It's just something I can't turn off. When I draw something, no matter how simple it starts off, I'm always asking "why" this piece exists, and it ends up blowing up into something far larger in scale than I intended.
I also looked back at a big part of why I started drawing for storytelling in the first place. There was a kinetic novel (visual novel) called Juniper's Knot, (it's freely available), and despite how short and simple it was, I was blown away at how art and the interactive computer medium could be used to tell stories.
Of course, I'm no stranger to visual novels, but the way this one did, with its slight movements and scene immersion, it really left an impression on me, and convinced me at the time: I can write, and I can program (another thing I really enjoy); if only I could also draw, I could create stuff like Juniper's Knot.
One thing led to another, and I found myself wandering all over the place with my art, all of which were valid and exciting and in some cases quite lucrative, but were ultimately deviations from what I was really trying to do.
And so now, if ever there was a time to go all-in, this is probably it.
So in the coming days and weeks, I will detail for you guys my plans for what I intend to create.
What would really help is if you guys could share with me which pieces of mine you loved the most, the ones you really want to see expanded, so I can have a pool of effective brainstorming ideas for what I might want to devote effort to.
Thank you guys for your continued support, and look forward to hearing more from me real soon.
