This game has partial gamepad support(tested only on Xbox 360 controller).
 In 2018 May I, Psycho-Male started learning game development, Kingdom Lost was my first project. After 1 year, ShySeel(pixel artist) and recently Kaan Salman joined this project as music composer and sound designer. For a while we have been working on this project full time so your support would mean a lot to us and it'd also make this process much more enjoyable for us. Also, we'd like to invest anything that would let us progress this project further if possible.
  This is an Story Driven Open World RPG which takes place in a Fantasy Medieval setting. You play as a Princess of Drynnor, Leana. Story starts as your castle gets infiltrated and your King gets captured. Suddenly you are no longer a Princess, everything you had is taken away from you. You are not alone though, there are some other superior forces that need you and your Kingdom to achieve their goal, and so the game is about taking back your kingdom.
Originally inspired by Skyrim, I decided to make an 2D Open World RPG game. I'm not a fan of hack n slash in 2D games. I enjoy turn based combat but I'm more into fast paced gameplay, so I kind of tried to mix-match those two elements. That created a unique combat system where combat has different phases, which lets you come up with different strategies while letting your skills decide the outcome instead of depending on RNG.

Currently we only have the Human race, but we plan to add different species as the game further develops and different kingdoms are added. After some point I leaned more into improving myself so that I could build an infinitely expandable game(even though that might not be possible for us, still that's what we aim for). Instead of adding content, and breaking everything with each improvement I make on the game engine, I focused on the technical part until recently. At this stage of development, we are planning on stable updates since the engine part is mostly done.

Game features many special characters with unique traits. We have a main quest line and I also want to add side stories and hopefully hire writers as well as more artists if we succeed, since I design my quest, interaction and dialogue systems using an external tool similar to Twine. Game also features a bounty board with randomly generated bounties periodically(still WIP but mostly done, should be available soon). I can say that we basically have everything you could expect from an Open World RPG game, except an enormous world, for now. Here's a little WIP video on our current progress to give you an idea about our technical capabilities.

Hi, I’m Shyseel. For the artwork we’re working on new content as we renovate some outdated ones to try to elevate the game quality. As I complete all NPCs and buildings for the village area (it’s halfway done) I will renovate some old assets. Then focus on making new biomes with unique creatures to that biome. First being the cave, I wish to expand upon that area and add new ones. Your feedback on what you wish will be very important during this process. We want to add many side quests and journeys you can go on aside from the main quest for as long as we have your support. I started pixel art with this game, I hope that you see my improvement as I create more content.

Hello! I originally planned to release the new version today, but while I was implementing a new questline for Dianna, I noticed that the quest system is still missing a crucial feature: Support for quests with multiple steps. Also creating and managing quests in GML was quickly becoming a hurdle, so I wanted to switch to JSON format sooner or later. After I imported the quests system into JSON format, I revised my existing functions to make them compatible with the new format. Everything is working fine so far, I just need to adjust some GUI functions and make some tests and I should be able to continue to add new quests. After adding a new map, creatures, quests and scenes, I’ll start playtesting and then I’ll release. ShySeel and I are working away from our homes, but we plan on going back home this friday and hopefully get some rest and release the update. I also wanted to squeeze some GUI improvements this update, but GUI is probably the Gamemaker’s weakest point, it's an extremely tedious and annoying process(this is probably my way of saying ‘I couldn’t do it because I suck’). I probably won’t be able to add it in the upcoming update.
We are adding portraits to dialogues with this update.
 Hey there, It’s Shyseel. I’ve been working on the tents this past week and I really enjoyed the process so far! I really couldn't stand the old assets and the size of the map so I made it so it will fit the screen even though it's bigger on the inside. I want to give them all this cool stuff but i try to keep in mind that it has to be ready to move in some way. This has been a struggle since the group are nomads but they also require a lot of equipment. I guess it's best not to get caught up in the details and draw it however I like. I really enjoy tribal aesthetics with patterns, masks and leather so I will try to incorporate that into their tent interiors.
 Hi, this is Kaan aka Skulldrinker, I’ve been recently discussing the soundscape of Kingdom Lost with Psycho-Male, and we are trying to achieve a level of music&sound quality so that your immersion would be enhanced throughout your gameplay.
I am also reworking on my sound effects. I am quite satisfied with the recently changed ones, they are mostly single sound effects for interactables such as looting, inventory and trade, the biggest challenge on the sound would be dealing with the combat sfx, because there are a lot of things to consider, weapon type, enemy etc. But since I reorganized my sound effects library, It will be less time consuming to achieve our goal with sound.
On the music side of things, I also plan to improve the production of the current tracks
with better mixing and mastering, and of course better orchestration techniques.

 Hello fellow Drynnorians
! Since last week, I noticed that the bug that causes riposte to hit multiple times if the last combatant died by riposte skill, it’ll crash since the instance it’s trying to reach doesn’t exist anymore. I took precautions for that before, but since I made several changes in combat last update, I forgot to cover the issue this time. 
 I also added a new system for wood cutting and stone mining. I plan to make use of this system in the upcoming update and it was already something I had in my mind. I always enjoy adding new systems, since I don’t plan on working on bigger systems this update, I thought it’s a great addition, along with some fine tuning of already existing systems. 

 Yesterday Bannon Rudis played KL in his stream a bit, giving us extremely useful feedback. Especially when it comes to combat UI, it’s not readable/understandable and it doesn’t even stand out. Which is something I was already aware of, but hearing it from other people's perspective really helps a lot, especially since he gave me detailed advice lots of ideas popped into my mind. I talked with ShySeel and we decided to visualize it in a different way. One other thing I decided to change is how harvesting works, I made it similar to wood cutting and ore mining so you can go wild! You can still interact with them like before if you prefer so.




 Hey there, it's Shyseel. It's been a busy week but fortunately I'm done with Diana’s sprite! I’m hoping to add Gwun, Vaeh and Ryle before the update. Right now I’ll focus on the tents and renew the inside and outside. I’m hoping to get everything done before the update though i’m on a trip right now and working has been slower for me. I have a lot to do and i’m not working stable hours so I’ll do my best to keep up with the deadline. Thank you for understanding!

Weekly Progress 22-02-2021

After implementing the bug tracking feature, it was a lot easier to track bugs even the ones that people didn’t report. So far I fixed:
  • Crash at Grimshear's gate when entering the area in princess dress(thanks to a user feedback)
  • Crash when pressing confirm button in character panel when a skill is selected
  • Wrong cutscene triggering when player enters secret tunnel from forest(soldier encounter before shaman boss fight)
  • I also added an alternative scenario in case the player walks back to the secret tunnel entrance after sacrificing Adrey in the soldier encounter, triggering the cutscene that shows the player downstairs to avoid crash because Adrey is already dead.
  • Fixed some animations playing for just one frame in scripted AI scenes(like Gomrak)
  • ***The only NSFW specific change I made is that I fixed crash on random NPC sex scene in debug room. I didn't really expect people to use debug room, so after I made some changes, I didn't fix the scene in debug room, but I guess I should've. Who knew??
But there are also some problems, like crash in combat, or random crash in forest while gathering, which seems related to cutscenes but also looks like cutscenes aren't active at the time. I can’t trigger both of these, so if anyone is willing to share some details, here or on Discord, I’d appreciate it.
I made changes to Dianna’s dialogue lines. When I first added those dialogues, I couldn’t focus on each character separately so results weren’t really satisfying. For better results, I implemented a branch tracking system, which tracks and saves which branch of the dialogue player activated before, then decides which branches will be activated. Which means, to be able to talk about certain things, you might need to acquire more information about it first.
Latest release took more than 3 weeks, since I added/changed a lot of things 3 weeks were barely enough. This time we’ll be away from home for a while so I don’t plan to work on technical stuff, instead I’ll mostly focus on the new content. I already added mining and wood cutting with placeholder sprites, since I plan to use it for the upcoming quest line. Aside from the new content, I want to fix the current bugs. We’ll also start adding character portraits in dialogues with this update.

Hey there, it’s Shyseel. This update I decided to renovate Diana’s assets such as idle and combat. They were almost two years old and i’m really satisfied with how she looks right now. I also started working on her character portrait. I really enjoy making these detailed pieces!
This update I will focus on the Icy fang (Diana’s group). I will work on renovating their campsite and their sprites as much as possible before this update. I also can’t wait to see the relationships between Leana and Icy Fang. As you’ve seen from the last bounty added to the game (Missing Person) you can hire Ryle to help you on the mission. After this update I hope that their combat animations will feel much more smoother and you will be hiring other members at some point as well.

 ***We have been wanting to add sex options for the Icy Fang for a long time! After this update we can finally have more options for the poll such as Gwun, Vaeh and Ryle. For this update we are adding Diana’s sex option so stay tuned. 


 We'll add pickaxe and axe for mining and wood cutting later.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: I plan to open polls here instead of Discord, with options like A,B,C and explanation of those options can be seen from the Subscribestar page or Discord server. I was thinking about this for a while, since Discord emoji locker bot can’t prevent others from clicking on the given emoji. 0.5.5.3 Released!


Since Ann's route has been chosen in the previous poll, I wanted to focus on adult content this update. We already have the required animations for randomly generated NPC's, I added some lose scenarios that'll lead to rape, then game will continue. Lack of adult content has been disturbing me for a while so this was a good opportunity.
I also kindly forced ShySeel to draw nude combat animations for this update, since it felt like it was going to be a huge missing part in this update. Even though she already did so much with Gomrak's house, I'm glad she made the nude sprites.
Anyway, the most important part of this update is the new content related to Ann. I had to add a bunch of new mechanics but they were mostly similar to what I already had, so it wasn’t too hard. I wanted to expand it more, but I also didn’t want to drag the release date too much, so I plan to come back to this and make some improvements and additions(Spoilers: Like a special failure scenario including both Ann and Leana for example). But I also had to deal with some technical issues at the same time so I couldn’t focus as much as I wanted to.

Hey there, it’s Shyseel.
This update has been mostly finishing Gomrak’s place and adding a few extra sprites. Things have been coming together for the crafting system slowly since having Blacksmith and Alchemist in the game was both big steps toward it. I am especially happy with how Gomrak’s place turned out and I hope you can tell the difference as well.
I contributed to Yuumosh’s future bounty quest and it will be added to the next version, hopefully. I can't wait to add the little tidbits after all the basic stuff is complete (crafting, fighting, main quest etc.). That's what will make the game the most fun for me since I've always appreciated the details and extras. That being said every update has been more exciting lately since it feels like a lot more progress is happening. Please look forward to future updates.

Weekly Report

 Everything looks okay so far since the last update, so I'm planning on spending much more time on content overall, which includes adult content.

 Currently adult content is really limited, since most of the scenes can only be triggered once, it really limits the players experience in terms of sexual content.

 This is an open world game so our aim to give players freedom as much as we can. In the future updates, I plan to add prostitution option and an option to simple start sex scene with any character as long as it's sex sprites are available. I mostly talk about prostitution but there will also be romance option with other characters. Since I couldn't spend time on writing before, I never had any chance to add anything romance related unfortunately.

 Hello, after the last update, things have been going smooth as I hoped, finally. Until now, development staggered a lot and I always wanted to add more content instead of technical improvements, but in the end I wanted to be ready for the future of the project before anything else. Since it's a lot harder to improve the engine when we add more content, I wanted to do this as early as I could.
 I needed to add a couple of new features to my cutscene system for the upcoming scene, but it didn't take much time so I started working on the scene. I'd like to talk more about that when we release the next update with the new story.
 That aside, I'm mostly polishing the current features we have. I also added some features that ShySeel(fish and duck animations) and Kaan(some 3D audio objects that he can easily use to add sounds in game) have requested from me before. Here's a sample scene(it still has some issues since it's WIP).

Increased DPAD size per a request and also added a new difficulty option which will allow players skip combat encounters and automatically win any combat as well, in case it's triggered by a cutscene.
 I plan to finish coding everything needed for the upcoming story content in as soon as I can and then focus on writing until the new update. See you next week!

0.5.5.21 Release

Sex scenes are now working on both Windows and Android.

This update introduces many bug fixes, including
  • Crash on death, caused by wrong function call.
  • Cutscenes crashing on Android devices due to a difference in Windows and Android file path formats.
  • Fixed multiple music tracks overlapping after visiting tavern, caused by one of older audio functions interfering with the current system.
  • Fixed gamepad issues, tested on Xbox360 controller.
  • Fixed wrong transition into Alchemist when transitioning from Grimshear Entrance to Grimshear Centre.
  • Alicia doesn't spawn after completing her quest anymore.
  • Character stats won't reset to 0 after loading the game.
Also some improvements
  • Improved how touch screen input is being handled, now it works the same as mouse so the game supports mouse in combat(but prompt doesn't show). I'm working on full touch screen support for every panel and interactions. Movement already has touch screen support(you can enable it from options) but it's buggy, you'll be stuck in collisions most of the time so I don't recommend it. After it's functional and everything else supports touch screen, I'll make DPAD in mobile optional(or maybe remove it completely when I'm completely sure of it's functionality).
  • Changed touch screen combat prompts, instead of arrow buttons now it'll show which part of the screen you need to touch with a circle icon. Also updated tutorial to make it more understandable.
  • Main menu now supports arrow keys, ESC and enter keys no matter what key configurations you are using.
  • Changed default key layout to arrow keys for movement, 'ASD' as action keys.
And new features
  • Added an option to enable one handed controls, which allows players to use movement keys in combat instead of action keys. Actions keys still have some functions outside of combat, so you might want to assign them close to movement keys.
  • Added music to the opening scene.
  • Added music to church.
  • Updated How to Play menu and added walkthrough at the last page.
Known Issues
  • Using a bounty board might crash randomly, the trigger is unknown. Load the game and try again, if problems persist, please send me your save file or 'save_data.txt'.
  • Doors’ highlights are broken, but they are interactable.
  • Some of the torch's highlights are broken, but they are interactable.
  • Some NPC's body parts are misplaced.
  • Antidote(black potion) shows Strength Potion(yellow potion) description, but works as Antidote.
  • Finishing off an enemy with riposte will cause the attack to be spammed until the enemy dies or combat ends.
  • If an enemy dies by a DOT, their EXP will go to said enemy instead of player.
Notes
  • If an NPC doesn't have an interaction yet, they'll just say "I don't have any business with you.". Those interactions will be added.
  • You can find Diana either at a campfire or inside a tent near the campfire in Southbron Plains.
  • Ryle doesn't change position to allow the player to find and interact with him.
  • This might not be obvious and I'm sorry in that case but, Evenon will give you your main quest after you leave the cave so, please talk to him until the quest updates.
Planned features before v0.6(aside from story development)
  • Full touch screen support, as well as mouse support both in and out of combat.
  • Improved AI system. Polishing the AI system is a lot of work, but since it doesn't actually affect the gameplay, I'll be improving it gradually. I want to improve it as much as I can before the combat update in v0.6.
  • Item frames based on their rarity.
  • Focus more on lore and character backgrounds, as well as optional dialogues and side quests.
  • More mercenaries will be added to Southbron Plains as a member of Icy Fang.
  • Gomrak's house as well as hospital will be added to Grimshear, Grimshear will be expanded.
  • Players will be able to work as a waitress in Snoring Cherry.
  • I want to improve how collision detection works for interactions since currently it can be frustrating.
  • Crafting and alchemy system.
 It's been tough 2 months, I ported my project into the new version of the Gamemaker while reviewing my whole code that I wrote in nearly 3 years. I believe I can now start focusing on adding content a lot more than before, which was something that I was highly anticipating for a long time now.
 As you might know, the poll is finished, so I’ll implement the story, quest and cutscenes before our next release. In the meantime we’ll be opening a new poll for our next scenario in our Discord server.

0.5.5.2 Release

 There is nothing new in term of sexual content this version, but many technical aspect of the game itself I improved since the last update will allow us to do lot more easily then before. Also I'm really excited about the new upcoming scene, Hobgoblin x Ann.

 ShySeel here. I'm very hyped about the next update because one of our lovely patrons wanted to see Ann being fucked by a hobgoblin on the poll, which was the option I wanted to draw. I would like to add many scenarios like this in the game if possible as well as lovey-dovey sex between my favorite characters. But whichever you want to see comes first, so consider voting on the polls and suggest us possible scenarios!

Since my last post, I spent my time on fixing tons of errors, also I overhauled inventory system for 3-4 days, since I didn't want to fix the current shop system, and instead I expended current inventory system by making it much more flexible for trading and also adding possibility of sharing your items between your party. It's quite complex and currently it feels a bit messy, bugs are expected but there is none that I know currently. I'll probably polish it in future.
About bugs, there have been tons of problems with lots of data, many things got corrupted as you play and gave a random crash that didn't make any sense. It's been a nightmare to keep things organized in the old version of Gamemaker, but now everything feels so smooth and enjoyable. I wrote some functions to track those data structures and fixed the issue.
Quests also had many issues, some of them were impossible to complete or objective counters simply didn't work right. I also fixed cutscenes but at the same time, I changed a lot of things and the cutscene system communicates with other systems a lot, so bugs are a lot more likely to happen than any other system.
Also I started implementing 3D sound per Kaan's request and added some other functionality requested by him, which will allow them to get involved with the project much more.
Honestly I kind of feel bad that there isn’t anything much new content wise, but this changes also needed to be done before further development. We’ll close the poll on our Discord channel and start working on the new content.
Another news is Korcan has joined our project as second audio designer, we are excited to work with him! His first contribution is our new beautiful main menu soundtrack.
Hey, its Shyseel. This has been a huge update for me. I remade around 9 maps in total including places in the town and Lamrock. Lamrock isn't complete yet, so look forward to further improvements. I'm very proud of the amount of detail in each map. I also added a lot of lootables that respawn over time. I added hills and lakes to make each map feel unique and interesting.
 If i had time i would add animals which you may have seen from discord, but i took my time with a lot of the assets and animated all of the water sprites to make forest feel more lively. A lot of the animals i'm very happy with, but they are not animated yet. I also wish to add forest mobs but it will have to wait untill after village buildings and NPCs are done. We have fish and ducks for now which are not yet added to the game.
This update meant a lot to me since this game has come a long way of renovation from a platformer to an open world RPG. I want to make the world feel as intriguing and intricate as possible and add all the content i like to see in a game into Kingdom Lost. Of course this takes a lot of time and patience so thanks to everyone who has been with us for the past years! Tell us what you think of the update, your feedback is invaluable.

Upcoming content and Roadmap

ShySeel and I come up with a road map to make things clear both for us and our community. Currently this game is very raw experience and one of us main objective is to add some juice in it.

 First  things first, we need to complete Grimshear. It's include many new buildings and one new special area that's very different then the rest of the Grimshear. We plan to add new maps with different terrain and enemies with lots of many loots that will also unlock many new possibilities for the upcoming crafting system. She will also update many old character sprites as well as our interface sprites for both combat and character/quest/shop panels. 

 Crafting system will be divided into two main categories, alchemy and blacksmithing. As you might guess, blacksmithing will be taught by Gomrak and alchemy by Yuumosh. We want to add crafting as well as infusion of different status effect like bleed, burn etc. into the weapon/armor you want. I want to add different tier to items and also tier upgrade option from the forge for the equipments you want by combining same item until it reaches max tier.

 Since we are not relying on rigged animations, ShySeel is currently drawing each animation for different equipment for each sex by hand. This extremely limits our options when it comes to adding different combat animations. I've been thinking about this for a long time, I didn't want to add a special class system with unique outfits since that would also limit our playstyle options, like combining different skill and creating your own unique builds, which is something I highly value. But at the same time, not doing this will extremely slow down our progress and also limit our quality with each outfit animations and skills. Since we added a special slot for skins and also players party has 4 character slots, this shouldn't be that much of a problem. Players will still be able to have 4 different class in their party and experiment with different match ups against different enemies, which should add a lot of variety while giving us opportunity to focus on each class, like it's animations and skills.  
 There is an huge update to Gamemaker, which is the engine I'm using for this project, and I've been porting my project to new version for the last several days. I wanted to start working on this early so it won't delay the upcoming update, but it might still take some time.
