Not The Protagonist: Reincarnated as the Sidekick

You play Harry Jenkins, a college student with a finance internship and a boring life. (You can change his name when you start the game.) A guy in a bathrobe ruins that life, and Harry wakes up inside what feels like a cheap light novel. Not as the hero. As the guy standing next to him.

The hero is Jake, Harry's childhood friend. Everything works out for Jake. He's charming, nothing ever sticks to him, and he cheats on everyone. Harry half remembers how this story goes, so he does what a background character isn't supposed to do. He starts paying attention to the girls Jake keeps neglecting.

It's set around Wrenfield: the university, an office downtown, and a very nice apartment. You walk around a map, and different people show up at different times of day. When you're in the right place at the right time, something happens. There's also an angel who texts Harry instructions and calls it "for the plot".

It's an 18+ game with cheating and other adult themes. Everyone in it is an adult, and it's all fiction.

The first version is coming soon, and I'll post the details separately. If you want to play it early, the tiers are right here.

HI, I'm Kaexon and Hello from behind the keyboard.

I've been playing games like these since 2019. Recently I got inspired to stop just playing and try building one myself.

So I did. Not The Protagonist is a visual novel built in HTML and Twine, and I'm making it on my own. It starts from a question I never got tired of: what if you woke up as the other guy, the one the story was never about?

A few things to know up front:

- I plan to release new versions about monthly, and maybe faster if things go well. 🎮

- I'm one person, so some things will take time and some things will break. I'll tell you when they do. 🛠️

- This is an 18+ page. Everyone depicted is an adult, and everything is fiction. 🔞

The best way to follow along is to become a patron. Every tier gets access to the Discord, where I post dev logs and talk with you about what you want to see. The tiers are right here. 💬

Thanks for being here.
