This got approved faster than I thought it would! I should give an example of some of the kinds of WIP views I might share on here.
This is going to be the final version for Fren (https://aryion.com/g4/view/980359). I'm trying to keep the rough lines as much as pawsible while bringing in a lot of soft textured colors - specifically to make it feel like the coloring was done with markers on top of a strong paper texture.
The thing about wet markers is you get a lot of variation in how hard the colors are; you get dark and light patches. I could get that effect by making a marker brush and coloring everything myself without using fills. But that would be enormously time consuming, more trouble than the effect was worth. Instead I'm using Krita's multi-brush feature which allows me to draw with multiple brushes on the page at the same time. Combined with some brush settings, this allows me to color much faster while still maintaining the marker-like effect that I want <3
Keeping the pixel-styled lines adds a lot of contrast, I like mixing resolutions like this - it's something I tried in Hiding Spot (https://aryion.com/g4/view/1003697) and liked a lot. To make the lines feel a bit more physical though I've given them a little bit of a glow effect, which also makes them stand out a bit more from the color. I'll pawbably mess with them a bit more before the final version is done, but I like the direction they're headed right now :3
