Subscribestar Updates

There's no weekly art post on Subscribestar right now because I'm still waiting to see how the terms fully settle down, and I want to be a little bit careful to make sure I understand how they'll be enforced in practice and what I should and shouldn't draw/link to the account.

A few of the bans in the ToS have been removed or reworded since my last post. I am still skeptical that these terms will allow the majority of furry vore content to remain on this site in the long, long term. However, I want to pay attention and see how things play out.

I'm also doing early research into getting another backup option for support up as soon as I can - truthfully I've been a little bit too complacent for a long time using Subscribestar as my only method for early art access, so I'd like to add some more methods so I don't have so many of my eggs in one basket.

Finally, some good news (I think?). Subscribestar now has a lot of additional billing methods! From what I can tell, normal credit card subscriptions still work the way that they used to, but in theory there are more ways to load up funds which.. maybe could make the site more accessible! We'll see. >w<

Updates to Subscribestar Policies

Today Subscribestar updated it's prohibited items list in its TOS to effectively ban the majority of porn on Subscribestar.Adult: https://subscribestar.adult/prohibited_content

I suspect the vast majority of furry artists' fall under these terms (for example, an anthro character with digitigrade legs is no longer allowed on Subscribestar in NSFW situations). Subscribestar's restrictions around this content are also broad - profiting from prohibited content even off-site is enough to fall afoul of the terms.

In other words, even if I were to purge my gallery to only show anthro (essentially humanoid, not just anthro) characters in clearly consenting situations, offering commissions off-site for a digitigrade character would be prohibited.

I am taking things slowly and trying to find as much info as I can, and I will be ecstatic to discover that I am wrong about any of this. I suspect that these new rules are the result of payment processor restrictions, which may be harsher now that Subscribestar has started expanding its payment options.

To put it bluntly, the current terms on Subscribestar are stricter than Patreon. If they go forward and are consistently enforced, I do not see a future for the furry community on this website.

So, what are the implications?

I don't know.

I don't know of an alternative to Subscribestar. Much of my artwork would not be permitted on Patreon. And both sites prohibit using the site to redeem off-site rewards.

I can't give anyone any answers about this or about what it will mean for my projects moving forward, about how long I'll be able to stay on the site, or on other ways you'll be able to support me if things go wrong.

I will be maintaining careful records of payments to make sure that if I lose access to the website, I will still be able to fulfill subscriber rewards. My request would be:

If Subscribestar is the only way I have to get in contact with you, and if it would become difficult to fulfill supporter rewards without access to the site, being able to contact you about those rewards on another platform with an account I've verified as belonging to you will be very important.

Aside from that, I will do my best to find more information, to think about what the next steps are and what this means for the platform and the projects I'm working on, and to keep all of you up to date.

It is likely that at least in the short term, I will avoid uploading weekly early access art directly to Subscribestar, just to avoid rocking the boat, and so that I can have some time to figure out next steps.
