Development Update 12-3-22

TLDR;
           ◙ Edwin + Marie scene
           ◙ Older scene Adventure outfit incorporation

      Edwin + Marie scene has nearly been completed on one version of it. This point of development story wise is where the resistance comes into play more heavily. Resulting in a stark difference on how a scene plays out. Ultimately I want to make resisting actually worth it, and thus the scenes may end up being more appealing to some. As well general attitude of the character in the scenes will diverge a fair amount. Essentially you will have a high resistance and a low to none event for each member.

     Renders for Marie's adventure outfit in earlier scenes is over halfway done for the Marie only scenes. It takes a long time to do this often just because of loading the scene each time. As well with this the Marie's dress textures are being fixed. The only issue going forward with all of this is how the very first council member scenes are structured. Which results in very long event pages, for essentially no real reason other than inexperience.

     While I could easily have sent v0.2.1 out to patrons during that billing period as promised, I have held off as I wanted to fix a few final things. With the incorporation of the time of day hud it will actually end up being v0.2.2 that you will get. That will happen some time during or after this weekend, as I will be taking another look at the questlog plugin. This has the intention of giving further guidance to players that they may not find elsewhere.

     I would like to also talk to you about future features considered for the game. For one, the combat system, which when incorporated will bring the game to v0.3. I wont talk much on that though since it's still in blocking out phase of things. With that though I wish to bring a quality of life feature where you can change your outfit from the menu. Ideally you will select the outfit the same as the wardrobe (it may even call the wardrobe event) and you'll simply change on the spot. Further I plan to have the bed in Marie's room automatically change to the last worn sleeping item rather than defaulting to the plain underwear.

     I could go on for awhile about planned features, but for now let us leave the above paragraph at that.

     I intend to revisit the "fantasy fit" outfit that was previewed some months ago to finally finish it out this month. So you may see that added in the near future to both Marie's and Alexina's ensemble.

     One last thing, some time ago I experimented with making renders of paintings where I changed the painting to some image, such as the title screen. depending on how these look in game this may become a feature for changing the title to a specified title image, rather than what was last set by progress.

Parlor Environment Preview

       This environment was put together for Edwin's storyline. Though it is very taxing on GPU memory, so in the final renders you may not see some of the object portrayed in this preview.

      During testing with the figures in the scene I found that I had to remove two object groups which may be out of view.

Underkeep Environment Preview

      In this upcoming update, you will have access to the "underkeep" within game. But you'll find it pretty empty. The underkeep will be part of Edwin's chain, and eventually George's as well. Just what takes place down there? Who is to say.

     This environment as with many of these newly assembled environments are fairly taxing on available GPU ram. So I'll have to get creative to make everything fit.

Banquet Hall Environment


       During a period of the last two months I put together a number of environments for use in the game. This environment is intended for use as part of the dinner events.

      The current idea is to make the event a quick time event, where succeeding will be good for Marie, not necessarily so for someone who wishes Marie to be corrupted. So, simply put, if you want to see scenes, you'll just have to fail. I was also thinking that this event would use a similar side picture format as the Tavern job, but we aren't quite there yet on assembling this.

     To put it short, this is all a W.I.P. and is subject to change.

Billing? 9-30-22

        Citing my overall lack of feedback towards you all, and overall slow progress with releasing a new update I intended to pause the billing cycle on for October. As well, I may decide to do the same come November. However I cannot find a way to do that on SubscribeStar easily.

       I do have a update just about ready, and this weekend will be playtesting to ensure everything is working as intended. Unlike the last two times I stated this, it is quite assuredly a thing. As well, anyone who was a Star during the development cycle of said update will receive a message via SubscribeStar with a link to download. (Once I can be absolutely sure it is bug free).

     The update will include the following:
          ○ Jenneive scenes for Marie + Ben
          ○ Alexina training Marie to use high heels (unlocks adventurer heels)
          ○ Remaster of J + B and C + M library scene images
          ○ Remaster of hometown event images
          ○ Marie + Alexina city event
          ○ Princess + Marie minor events (morning)
          ○ Kiaran + Marie minor dating scenes (morning)
          ○ Kiaran + Marie minor friendship scenes (Morning

The latter four listed are not "adult" scenes, I'll explain more later on.

The remasters of the library scenes were talked about previously, where it's simply the scene images re-rendered with the new environment.

The remasters of the hometown event images simply adds background to the images, where as before they were transparent.

Progress update 5-2-2022

TLDR;

         Glazing over the long gap since I had posted about the progress of the game, I will get right in to things.

           I put together a new environment based off the layout of the library in the game. In the past the library was just a vignette, with essentially only two wall and a floor. This new environment gives more ways to place the camera, and was ultimately necessary for Jennevive's scene with Ben as imagined. This also means that I will be going back and re-rendering the scenes that had occurred previously there.

          Since the creation of this environment (early last month), I have further revised Jennevive's scene with Ben. The original iteration even in it's incomplete form, I found to be less than satisfactory. I am now perhaps half way through both making and rendering this scene at this time. The scenes have been averaging 2 1/2 - 3 hours to render due to the new environment. And about 2 hours to simulate each clothing article depending on how close the figures are to each other or parts of the environment.

          As for releasing an update of the game with Jennevive + Marie and Marie's night scene, it felt kind of empty to me. So in that regard I am waiting until Jennevive + Ben scene 4 is done in it's totality.

          Some time has been spent on making a new outfit for Marie + Alexina. I don't readily have a preview for this as a result of it still being a work in progress texture wise. This outfit isn't being made from bought assets, so it is not something you will see elsewhere. It's use however is as a sort of exercise wear for the two to wear. As such you will be able to pass the morning time period exercising with Alexina, given that you meet certain conditions.

         Along the lines of the last statement though, I very much have in mind that players need more ways to pass the morning time period. This due to the game opening up as far as routing goes during the early portion of the game. The current thinking is that you will be encouraged to go through four scenes with each council member, before then being encouraged to focus on only one.

          Finally in the last month I lost about a week of work due to a hardware issue which I have since resolved. Though I put off further testing of hardware to ensure it's fully working capacity in favor of continued progress.
