Here's a "2-line story".
After a frantic search at the last minute, he managed to get a Christmas present for his wife. He had wrapped it carefully and put it under the tree.

His wife had sent him out again to get a few things for their dinner together. So he ran off again and went to the crowded supermarkets to do the final shopping.
He hated the Christmas season. Everyone was stressed and annoyed, and it felt like everyone was shopping at the last minute. After half an eternity, he arrived home, now stressed himself. It was already late in the evening and dark outside. He walked through the front door and straight into the kitchen.
He was surprised to find his wife and called out to her. Her answer came from the living room and John went to her. As he entered the room, he immediately stopped and looked at his wonderful wife.
