Hi guys and galls !
Finally, V0.80 is here. I can deliver the flowchart to you all. This is a significant feature with two key functions, making it a great reason to update the version number to 0.80.
First: It lets you replay scenes you’ve already seen, complete with dialogue, sounds, and music, just like you’re playing the game (unlike the gallery). Second: It functions as an integrated walkthrough.
When you start the game and go to the flowchart (assuming you're a new player), it will be completely empty. As you play, you'll fill in square boxes with events. More importantly, if you miss something, it will guide you on how to get that specific scene ! Additionally, it shows all possible variations of certain events, as sometimes the same event can have entirely different meaning with just a few sentence changes !
Another neat feature of the flowchart is that it allows adding events from other characters' points of view without breaking Jack's point of view. In this 0.80, I added one event (Sylvia's) to show you what it means.
If you ever wondered what happened between Henry and Sylvia in the bathroom, this update has the answer for you :) I plan to add more events from Sylvia’s perspective, though it takes time, so I’ll gradually release more of her pov events with coming updates.
Those of you who already played my game will have flow chart partially filled by single events (without variations).
Secondly, if you have any suggestions for flow chart improvement, please share your feedback on Discord or in the comments below :) If you spot any bugs, please report them on Discord in the #bugs section.
Third, should I keep the Gallery? With the Flowchart now in the game, the Gallery feels a bit redundant. Let me know if you want to keep it or if I should remove it to prevent menu clutter.
V0.81 Obviously :)
When I released 0.76 at the end of March, I mentioned that creating a flowchart for my game could take a month or more... I knew I could do it, but I wasn't sure how long it would take. Thankfully, it turned out to be much easier than I expected and it looks really nice.
Which means there are two weeks left in the month to do V0.81! That's a second update this month rather than one I predicted. For now, the tentative release is April 29th. With it, we will enter a new arc in the story and I hope to backfill some of Sylvia's POV events. I will be posting Sneak Peeks in the coming days as usual :)
That's all from me folks for today. Hope this flow chart will help you guys find all the scenes in the game without head scratching and pm-ing me like you usually do :D
Hi, guys and galls.
A slight change of plans. Something happened in my private life, and I won't be able to work over the next few days as I need to be elsewhere.
So I had a choice to make: delay the game till the end of next week or release today's update with the flowchart and one Sylvia's POV events that I finished already.
So i decided to do the release today. This also means instead of one update for this month there should be second update at the end of the month :)
Update should be up in few hours before I leave.
Hey guys and galls !
I present you guys final version of Flow Chart :) Honestly it took a lot less time than I predicted it would but at the same time the main challenge wasn't in technical aspect but on the content side. Going through every single event add bits to those events to make flow chart work, then adjust variables etc.
Either way, it's done.
Now that we have flow chart that can be access from both main menu and while playing the game (that shows you where you are in the story too !) I can now move to add event or two to finish 0.80 update and give it to you guys :)
For those who didn't follow previous posts. This Flow Chart will give you ability to not only replay events as if you were playing new game but also locked events will show their requirement and how to unlock them so it has three functions:
For 0.80 I plan only one or two events from different POV and one new event from Jack pov that continues story. I don't plan to add a lot of POVs otherwise i wouldn't be able to finish the game :P But there will be some nice ones for sure.
Hi guys and galls !
I have been working hard since Saturday to deliver the 0.80 update in the near future.
So far, I believe I'm done with developing features for the flow chart. I still have some ideas, but they're pretty tough to implement and would require a complete overhaul of the game's scripting, so they're not feasible right now (maybe for 2.0??).
As shown in the video, the game now shows which event is currently playing and displays it on the flow chart while you play. This will help you track your progress in the story and see what events you've missed or if you are on the right path.
I've made some improvements to the GUI, so the flow chart looks much better now. It’s not finished yet, but it's coming together nicely. The remaining tasks include adding proper buttons, icons for events, connecting lines, extra flair to the lower part of the GUI, and placing the event tiles.
When replaying an event from the flow chart, you'll be able to set all conditions at the start using a YES/NO basis. This means the same event can play out differently based on certain conditions. So even if you see one tile in the flow chart, the event can still vary. Moreover it will usually unlock all options of that events, even those you didn't see.
If an event has significant variations beyond the main storyline, you'll see additional tiles nearby that need to be unlocked while playing the game. These locked tiles will include requirements in their descriptions, allowing you to target specific events during future playthroughs.
The hardest part of the flow chart is figuring out how to divide the events. If I had known from the start that I would be making a flow chart, I would have structured the events differently. Since I didn't know, I wrote them with lots of conditionals that don’t split easily (unless I create separate flow events). But hey, that's life.
In terms of content, I've finished 20 out of ~100 events in the game, including the splits. The first 20 events are pretty straightforward since they're part of the prologue and don't vary much. The next 80 will be more challenging, but now that I'm done with features, I can focus entirely on them.
ETA ?
I'm still hesitant to give a specific date. Things are moving faster than expected, but stuff can break or bugs can appear at any moment. You know how it is...
That's all for today folks !
