Things you learn as an artist through experience:

Accept that your wallet is, more often than not, a decorative object with no meaningful purpose. There will always be another pen, another paper, another tool you absolutely need to bring an idea to life.

Art, like any worthwhile skill, is arduous. It demands patience, discipline, sacrifice, and the willingness to be terrible at something before you become even slightly better. Passion does not make the process painless; it simply gives the pain somewhere to go.

Not everyone will understand your art. Sometimes, you won’t understand it yourself. Create it anyway. Not every feeling arrives with an explanation, and not every thought needs to be translated for the world.

Remember: you are the creator. You decide what deserves to exist. You choose the shape, the meaning, the rules, and when necessary, you break every one of them. No one else gets to dictate what your imagination is allowed to become.

Art is meant to be protected, but never imprisoned. It is meant to serve, to question, to disturb, to comfort, to preserve what time tries to erase. It is a reflection of our essence, imperfect, contradictory, painfully human.

You learn that inspiration is unreliable, but showing up is a kind of devotion. Some days the page will resist you. Some days every line will feel wrong. Make the line anyway. Progress often arrives quietly, disguised as another attempt.

You learn that comparison is a thief with excellent taste. There will always be someone faster, more skilled, more celebrated. Their existence does not diminish the world you are here to make.

You learn to keep the mistakes. The crooked lines, the abandoned ideas, the pages you nearly tore out. They are not evidence of failure; they are the fossils of becoming.

Eventually, you notice the tape wrapped around an artist’s pen, a small, makeshift armour against hours of pressure and repetition. You draw until your hand aches, until your fingers feel raw, until the line between exhaustion and obsession begins to blur.

And still, you continue.

Not because the pain makes the art meaningful, but because somewhere in the struggle, you discover the reason you began. The quiet, stubborn need to turn something invisible into something real.

You learn that art is not always about being seen. Sometimes it is about seeing yourself clearly.

That the blank page is not empty, it is possibility, waiting for your courage.

That creating is an act of faith: believing something can exist before there is any proof.
