State of the Project Update
Hey, it's been a long silence, I just wanted to give a quick update on where things stand.
Ruling Avalon is not at all dead. The story itself is more than 75% written, and there is an excellent AVN studio with two games already under their belt interested in working with me to release it.
"Great!" You might say "When's the release date!"
Good question.
The studio I have been talking to and doing some work with has another important (and quite good, you should check it out) game they are working on called
My Bimbo Dream and were in crunch mode making sure to get it in the most professional and best looking shape possible for it's Steam Release. We agreed we would discuss my project after that was in the rearview.
In the meantime, the world moved on and a game called No Mercy was found by an Australian 'organization' known as Collective Shout. If you haven't been living under a rock, I'm sure you know what happened next.
This poses a problem for me. My game wouldn't have any illegal content. It isn't about the glorification of violence or hate, or whatever 'politician speak' these groups like to use so they can pretend they are interested in protecting children. Unfortunately for my project, that is not actually their agenda. Law enforcement groups and parents and private citizens protect children every day. They don't stand up and write a speech about what they are doing. They just do it. They have my undying respect.
These organizations and politicians that wax eloquent about it are only interested in using that terminology as a lightning rod to attack people and projects and institutions that don't fit their world view. They believe they have not only the right, but the moral imperative to determine what
other adults may and may not create or see. I'm pretty sure they don't want to see Ruling Avalon.
The studio I was working with nonetheless are standup people and honored their deal with me. Once they had the time, they came to me with a proposed plan to get my game going. I hope someday soon we can put that plan into action.
In the current environment, however, I am not comfortable asking anybody to take a financial risk on my passion project...when there is a real risk that there will be absolutely no way to monetize said project. Please don't get me wrong. I'm NOT doing this for the money. But I'm also not willing to have a group of people spend their time and effort to make something cool and professional, not without at least the
possibility of some kind of recompense if we succeed.
So the tl:dr is the timing just kinda sucks.
But...not all is doom and gloom.
If the situation on the ground changes, it won't take much time to kick this project back into gear. And, I don't want to jinx myself, but I have come across another pretty exciting opportunity in the AVN field with another group of really talented individuals which could keep me plenty busy in the near term.
Further updates if and when the situation warrants :)
All the best,
