Unfinished Fionna model .blend download(scrapped for now)
edit:added the textures to the rar
Here's my scuffed Fionna model for download. I really want to move on and get actual practice making a model from scratch for VRCHAT at least. I couldn't really do it with this model and i'm super tired of troubleshooting.
Feel free to modify, fix, port, re-rig or whatever you want with this. I really really don't mind.
Working on this model has taught me a very important thing.
- Finding a good tutorial series for the specific thing I want to do is the hardest part of Blender for me
This is probably the most frustrating part of 3D right now as a beginner. I love to actually make the model, even if later I realize that the way I made it isn't really good. But I swear most of the time trying to find a tutorial on how to do the specific thing I want to do was impossible.
There are too many things that you can learn to do without it actually even working in the application you want to use it for. There were so many times where hours would be wasted doing something one way only for it to not work (specifially in Unity which is a whole other can of worms).
There are too many tutorials of how to upload a premade avatar someone else already made to VRC and too many blender tutorials that are either too condensed and teach nothing of worth, have bad teachers/voice overs, have information that isn't applicable to VRC etc. So many of them have millions of views and always say they're for beginners etc but they're actual garbage.
There was a series about 3D modeling a character that I followed that was like 15 hours long that, while I did help, there was one point like 10 hours where the guy doesn't even want to UV unwrap in blender (which I guess is fair) so he buys a 40$ addon (which I bought too.. and it is very useful but still) to finish UV unwrapping and uv island packing and stuff.
There was a rigging tutorial which I spent 7 hours with no sleep for a day trying to get working and it was a mess to say the least.
i went back with rigify and just used the default skeleton the next day and got everything to work (for the body). Fionna is rigged in blender and it works in Unity, and i'm sure it would work in vrc if everything went okay.
I tried getting it setup but there were just too many things wrong that I know now or that I just have no idea about yet so I give up with her for now. With my 3D schedule I really can't be stuck on a roadblock for days and just need to learn when to move on.
I have good news though. I have found a series that goes over actually creating an avatar specifially for VRC which i'll be following closely for another project. I think this will solve all of my issues with hours spend making no progress. I want to move on to other models right now.
I can't say how much progress i'll have done with other stuff but i'll keep posting here for subscribers whenever i've made something that's acutally finished. I think once i'm comfy doing 3D stuff like I am with drawing, i'll post more WIPs, but idk how long it'll take me to get comfy doing this. I haven't even reached my goal of a VRC avatar yet so, who knows.
