VoidBound 0.5 – The Henosis Overhaul
Hey everyone,
We want to start by apologizing for how long this update has taken to produce. Quite a while back it became clear to us that VoidBound was not living up to the standards we set for ourselves during the game’s outset. Course correcting the game while still working to push the game forward for our fans quickly spiraled a bit out of control, but we’re hoping you all agree it was well worth the effort.
Allow us to get the bad news out of the way first – your old saves will not work. We were really hoping this wouldn’t be the case but it became unavoidable as we made so many fundamental changes to the game’s content and code base. 0.5 saves will be compatible moving forward, but 0.4.2b are not.
That being said, 3 new starting chapters were added for players who don’t want to play through the old content again. We would encourage people start fresh to see all the revamped content, but we also understand if some of you simply can’t wait to see the story continue – so we created a way to give everyone the option to play starting wherever they like.
What’s New?
-378 new art assets, including 65 new h-scene images and the game’s first bit of animation utilizing Live2D
-Combat improvements, overhauling the enemy A.I. and laying the groundwork for future systematic improvements still to come.
-50,000 words of content, including 9 new h-scenes
-Complete overhaul/rewriting of the opening and various other parts of the already existing story (not included in the aforementioned new content count)
-Sweeping performance improvements that most players will hopefully experience the same way testers have :D
-Voice-over work including fully spoken lines and a fully voiced h-scene. (Provided by the talented @_PixieWillow)
Just the Beginning
This is merely the first overhaul patch to come. Like we said, it was difficult balancing what to overhaul vs the proper addition of new content. There were so many core features and components that had to be updated that development dragged out quite a while. However, we are planning to move forward with monthly (bi-monthly at the latest) releases from this point forward. These new updates of course won’t be quite as large as this one, but we also won’t hopefully have to redo everything in one swift go again for quite a while either.
We really hope you enjoy the Henosis Overhaul update. It is currently available for download to patrons-only but will be made available for free later this month. This overhaul and general increase in quality was only made possible thanks to our patrons so we of course want to show them our appreciation in the manner most appropriate for projects like ours.
Thanks for reading and we look forward to hearing your feedback.
