Lewd Town Adventures v0.10.0 progress update number ten.


Hello everyone!

We've been working very hard on the coming update. Not only the past few weeks but as a whole. It wasn't easy, as we've been trying to improve the quality of the scenes a lot. This means that it takes a lot more effort (and time) to create images and animations.
Xo Mo has also joined me in rendering scenes because it's just a shit ton of work. (true dat! - Xo) I've been giving him tips/tricks/pointers on how to make things that are up to par with the quality I want. We started off a bit rocky since I had to shut down quite a bit of Xo Mo's work which caused frustration. (It's all good in the end. Gotta remember not to take it personal when it's for the benefit of the players. - Xo) I totally understand that but Rome wasn't built in a day either.
Now, most of what Xo Mo has done is really, really good, with a high eye for details that you guys can judge yourselves very soon. I think I still have to redo a couple of images here and there and maybe need to make some small changes but overall it's really awesome.
I'm very happy with how his scenes turned out, sometimes slightly different from my own style but that's a good thing since it keeps things varied. 
He has a sense for the dramatic and sometimes uses lighting or camera angles that I would likely never have considered, but it kinda works. I'll let you guys be the judge.
Now the reason why Xo Mo has started rendering scenes is because I've been saying for over a year now that I want to have more free time, lol. (yeah, free time... good one)
At the time it was the main reason I hired Xo Mo so I could cook myself better meals, have movie nights with the family or just go outside and do stuff.
The thing is that, although Xo Mo has helped me a ton, it turns out that not much has changed for me. Instead, we're both putting in way too many hours working on the game.

The goal for the next update is for Xo Mo to be 100% familiar with creating scenes so I can run normal 40 hour weeks for a change without a real need for breaks. (Still only about 69% familiar head to toe...) I'm kind of done with doing 70 hour a week workdays, every week if not more.
This is not to say we will be stopping work on the game. No, we will simply be taking it slower, taking days off, stepping away after finishing a dozen renders, instead of plowing through a 100-image, 10-animation event nonstop for 36 hours... But releases should likely be smaller, more regular after 0.10 comes out. Instead of massive 40-50 scene updates, maybe something like 20-30 normal-sized events every other month. It will make work easier, while also letting you guys play the new stuff sooner.
So for the next update we'll probably go to a system where we both do at most 2 events per week. That includes writing, editing, and rendering. (Code comes later.)
This should keep things light and fun, while giving us both time for other things in our lives. It also means when an update hits, there will be plenty of events/content while at the same time we won't be exhausted and wondering how we can top it.
The amount of images and animations, not to mention the writing and behind-the-scenes work is all significantly more than what almost any other adult game developer puts out. So changing it up like this is by no means slacking, just a more normal/healthy kind of work week.
The challenge we have is that - with the amount and quality of previous updates - we are always aiming to top ourselves with better and more content. We have to strike the work-life balance just right. We will do our best to set limits and only do the most crucial events for each update, perhaps even delaying a few events for the next update so we can manage our time.
Anyway, enough about that since I will still be crunching over the coming weeks to add all of the events, making sure everything works and removing all the bugs and stuff.
Let's talk about the coming update!

The coming update:
Now that we're almost there I can tell you a bit more of what has been done.
Content-wise this update is the biggest update yet with lots of story/character progression.
The details are way better than ever before. As of now I've only been able to see either the dialogue or the images/animations themselves.
I can say one thing though, it's really really awesome next-level stuff that you won't find in ANY other adult game.
There are 44 new events.  Almost all of these are either big or above average. The small events can be counted on one hand this time. That's around 1-3 hours of gameplay added (depending on how fast you read and how you react to certain events)...
Here's a small summary of what events will be in 0.10.0 with a few minor spoilers:
 - Hilda: 2 x Good path, 3 x Dark path.
More story development, in both cases Hilda is in a pretty good spot but in completely different settings.
- Rose: Dark/Good path.
Not going to spoil things but dark path players are in for a surprise.
- Emily: 1 new event.
A naughty event.
- Nina: (2 x Neutral)
No spoilers, but they are two very solid events where we will visit Nina's house and maybe something happens.
- Principal: Dark/Good path.
Story development scene.
- Pamela: A neutral path.
Hilarious.
- Cathedral: Three new events.
The nuns have been acting strange, let's see if MC can find out what's going on there.
- Stacy: 2 x Dark path*. 4 x Good path.
Stacy's fate is VERY different on these paths, play to find out what's going on.
- Tanya: Dark/Good path.
This time Tanya will go outside for sure.
- Eva: Neutral path
Eva is just being Eva.
- Lisa:
A story progression event.
- Luna: Neutral path x 2
We'll learn a bit more about Luna in the coming update, obviously with plenty of naughty stuff.
- Mia: Two new events.
Mia is doing fine, we'll learn a bit more about her motivations in this update.
- Felicia: 3 x Neutral path, 1 x Dark path.
We'll finally get our date! Let's see how things will develop, you'll never be able to guess this one.
- Elsa: Neutral path: 6 new events.
All you Elsa fans, this update has plenty for you! Meet Elsa and her parents! This includes lots of other extra stuff that you'll never be able to guess.
- Boss: Dark/Good path.
Get to know the boss and his plans a bit better.
- MC event: Neutral path x 2
A bit more about his past and a bit more showing off his new house.
- Other characters...
We will see lots of them here and there mixed in with some of these events. Sometimes just in the background, other times taking part in the scene. With over 40 characters, it's a challenge to get around to everyone equally.
- 3+ NEW CHARACTERS are introduced (not counting anonymous people and others we can't mention without spoiling things).
- 5 new subscribe star events.
Ramoray's non-canon story gets a continuation and a conclusion.
There were 2 threesomes requested that have been added.
There was another threesome request for a large scene involving Madame du Barry.
One of the older subscriber scenes will be incorporated into the main game. (Hilda)
Another one will be added to the manager tier cheat codes. (Probably the Nina x Emily threesome.)

More of my thoughts on the coming update:
I personally feel this update might be missing a bit on the naughty side of things, but on the other hand I'd reckon 30% of the events is naughty stuff so things should be fine.
Not to mention in this update, we've got a few twisty storylines to keep you interested. Xo Mo has been sneaking in hints (foreshadowing) for the past couple of updates, and they will begin paying off in 0.10. 
Eagle-eyed players may notice little things snuck into the background. This is relatively new, but helps populate the world, showing that there's more going on than what's being seen/discussed upfront.

I always try to keep things balanced between dark paths/good paths and more crazy scenes vs more mild things. 
I think we also very much succeeded in good/dark paths. Lots of them will have completely divergent events or will split into being completely different.
For completionists, that means you'll need to replay at least 2-3 times (or save any time there's a major choice and come back to it later to explore the other options) to fill in your "gallery" card collection.
In any case, it's guaranteed that the update will be a blast because it's just very well made with lots of surprises, lots of WTF!?! moments, lots of laughs, even a few tears for those who feel a real connection with the characters when some of the new scenes are experienced... I don't know what else to say because I am very excited and can't wait to play it myself. (Me too! I wrote a lot of it, but seeing it completed is gonna be hot, hot hot! - Xo)
The end score stats are looking to be around:
2500+ images and 220+ animations. (Creeping towards 3000 at the moment of writing.)
300+ pages of dialogue. (100k+ words! But if you exclude some of the code it's probably 70k+ new words of dialogue which equals a completely new store-bought book of content.)
This is no small feat because (as far as I'm aware) there are no other games that are able to do this on this level or at this pace. Most adult VN updates usually come in at less than a quarter the content in the same amount of time.
Looking at it all from a developer perspective, there isn't any other game out there that managed to bring out a game as big as Lewd Town Adventures in the 1.4 years it's been out.
I/We are very proud of that fact.

Anyway, this coming week we'll be finishing up the last events, after which my hell week will start where I will be going at it all day every day: coding, assembling, testing, fixing, etc. so we can release the game in its best form ever!
This time I already fixed the major stuff players and I have identified that cause playability issues, so hopefully it won't be too crazy after this comes out. More on that next week.
