Redemption Harem Mechanical Updates
Also known as the "v0.X.Y" updates, as opposed to the "v0.X" updates that include significant new content.
The way this was handled for Maids & Masters was largely that "v0.X" updates meant the main story was progressing, and "v0.X.Y" updates meant no main story, but might still have some side quests or optional content added alongside all the polishing and bugfixes.
Redemption Harem is unlikely to have side quest updates like that since the nature of the game is meant to be much more open world, where Maids & Masters remained open to explore but was much more linear. Side quests will certainly still happen, but overall progression through the main story will be much less of a straight line, which means the line between side quests and main quests will blur - something you might notice in v0.2 when it releases.
However, there may still be instances where adding or updating mechanics or developing other small bits like alternate scenes might still culminate in enough work that it takes me a few weeks to get it all done.
This kinda happened with v0.2. Life causing delays happened at a point where there was still more background work to do and creating the new content shouldn't take me that long (if all goes well, a test build will go up next week and v0.2 will release the week after), so this doesn't really apply to a theoretical v0.1.1, but this still feels like a question worth asking.
The rest of this examples, so if you're picking up what I'm putting down, feel free to skip to the poll.
If you're not quite sure what I mean, the way this would pan out for v0.2 is mentioned in this week's dev blog post. Since I focused on polishing things up and reworking mechanics first anyway, the theoretical v0.1.1 is already done. All I'd have to do to be ready for release would be to place blocks to keep the new areas inaccessible. It might take a couple hours to make sure I don't accidentally leave something open, deploy the build, then take the blocks back off to continue development, but that's relatively little work. Especially in a situation like I'm currently in, where I feel like it's taken me far too long to get close to releasing v0.2.
Or I don't change anything. I'll still do my best to not put undue pressure on myself and rush development either way, and a "v0.X.Y" update will still happen if it's necessary.
The main difference will be how I develop updates. If I go out of my way to make room for "v0.X.Y" updates, I'm kinda stuck focusing on fixing bugs and updating mechanics for a while after each update. Starting on new content right away would likely be interrupted and disrupt workflow. The other potential negative is that updates might be more frequent, but the "v0.X.Y" updates won't be very substantive.
It's not a big change, and if it's adopted, it shouldn't affect overall development time - just update frequency - but ultimately, I rely on the financial support that my Patrons provide, so anything I can do to keep y'all happy and maybe convince a few more of you that it's worth joining up I want to try to do.
