The Golden Goat (Part 1)
by StickyScribbles
The dragon feasted on local farmers and children, which made for a swift kingdom’s banquet. A full belly always made the beast sleepy and content. So it slept on the steepest mountain it could find, safely beyond hunters’ piercing sight.
The goat herd sought aid and revenge, but most of their human companions quivered at the thought of being trampled again. In desperation, the goats bribed a tooth fairy with the promise of a year's worth of milk and honey to reveal where the dragon slept. In the business of sweet dreams, a scaled patron would soon have their tap run dry.
That night, the goats quietly scrambled up the mountain into the dragon's den. The gluttonous serpent's slumber was suddenly jolted awake, as if hit by a tide of angry anvils with hooves.
The dragon awoke rattled, then arrogantly thanked them for the midnight snack and snapped up a dozen. Only to have its jaw and belly repeatedly hoof-hammered. Souring on free delivery, it fled to another secluded peak. Only to be clubbed awake again by another wave of vengeful goats.
Hours without sleep stretched into days, then weeks, then months. The relentless pounding turned its impervious scales into tender, bruised pillows. Dragon claws retracted and stuttered. Eyes darted at every distant baa. No amount of meat or treasure from the nine kingdoms was worth the loss of sleep and sanity.
What brazen animals would dare chase a dragon across sorrowful seas, hellish plains, and hollow tundras?

I see there's an obsession with goats, although the story is very interesting. A dragon could have already finished them off, but I'm sure the goats are planning something since they have the help of fairies, who are natural enemies of dragons. Great work Sticky
BAAAAAAA. Thank you.
