Lost Freedom 0.8 - Dev Log #1

Hi everyone. I wanted to let you know that the next update will be a small rework of some scenes/dialogues involving Isabella and Agatha, as well as some improvements to images/animations that had poor lighting or small errors.
  • Update 0.9 will continue the story of Chapter 3.

This rework is because some parts didn't turn out the way I wanted and ended up conveying a completely different idea from what I had in mind.

When I make a scene, I usually start with a goal: something that needs to happen, an idea I want to convey, or a key point in the story.

For example, in the scene where the MC sees Isabella for the first time at the basketball court and talks to her, the goal was for the player to sympathize with the MC and see Isabella as the "bad guy" in the situation.

That way, later on, the player would be able to understand and support the MC's decision not to see her again and, especially, not to tell her who he really is.

That was the original goal, but when I developed the scene, it ended up conveying the exact opposite idea.

The MC approached Isabella and talked to her in a strange way, so she reacted accordingly and ended up calling him a "pervert." After that, the MC decided he didn't want to see her again and left.

The scene ended up doing exactly the opposite of what I wanted: the MC seemed like the bad guy, Isabella seemed like the good one, and the player ended up sympathizing with her. In other words, she was right, MC wasn’t.

As a result, the MC's later decision not to see her again or reveal his identity ended up feeling unjustified.

So, I decided to change the approach to the scene in order to achieve the original goal.
Before the MC even gets a chance to talk to Isabella, something happens, she trips on the stairs and is about to fall. The MC kindly tries to stop her from falling by catching her. However, Isabella reacts aggressively, refusing to thank him and/or listen to him.
Faced with this reaction, the MC decides that it's not worth insisting and simply leaves.
This way, the scene conveys what I originally wanted much better and makes the MC's later decisions make more sense to the player.
I also modified several dialogues between the MC and Isabella on the island to make them consistent with the changes made to that scene.
These changes aren't significant enough to warrant replaying the game, but they're something I've wanted to change for quite a while.

I've also fixed some renders that had poor lighting, as well as some animations with minor errors.
