I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
This week I wanted to finish writing both the Africa and Switzerland paths from the next release. Unfortunately, Africa ended up taking the whole week: I finished it (to first draft standard) just a few minutes ago.
A problem of execution
The challenge was one particular scene, which seemed sexy in the storyboard, but didn't work out so well in execution. At a certain point the scene just seemed to break; I sensed it was in trouble when I caught myself writing explanations in the decision links, trying to convince the player there's a reason their heroine might pick this option (actual answer: because it's in the storyboard).

Drastic measures
On Thursday I resolved to only listen to Toto's Africa, on infinite repeat, until I finished this fucking scene.

One million "bless the rains" later
It's done! As an experiment, I went back to the "break point" in the scene, and just tried to develop it without reference to the storyboard.

That felt risky, because without the extra element from the storyboard, it felt like I was cutting out the main thing that separated it from a vanilla sex scene.
But as I was writing, subtleties started emerging that I found intriguing and sexy. The result is a scene that I think is really hot, without needing a lot of contrivances to justify it: it happens because two people are frisky, and it's sexy because one of those people is your heroine, not because we make her do anything especially porno.
Next steps
I'm going to take tomorrow off to rest my brain and catch up on some life admin stuff. On Monday I'll start writing the Swiss path.

Secretly, I was hoping to get the release ready for Christmas, but that's really unlikely now. However, I'm confident we can still get everything ready by Dec 31. I'll report on progress next week – have a greta weekend, guys!
