Public Release: Lisa - Silence In The Rain 3.2.3

-----
Bug: Bathhouse
Potential fix in the download link:
 https://gofile.io/d/styTIQ
Titled: "Map024"

I haven' t tested this because I don't have time. I have to go back into the city and I'll probably be there all night. Sorry, I wouldn't normally do this but it's urgent.
Hopefully the fix works, if it doesn't I'll fix it the second I get back home again.
------------

I know I've skipped the resident release but I've lost track of the days and I'm late due to a bug and I just wanna clear my head out and focus on finishing up the Sharon event to be honest ^_^

Link: https://gofile.io/d/styTIQ

If you want the patch for the bug alone, it's linked in the public post below this one <3

There's nothing new from the Tutor Release aside from that single bugfix I think? I have made other changes to the new overlay system in the master file but I'm honestly still working on it and I don't wanna overload the system with multiple layers of the overlays on everyone's save files so I'm just gonna leave it until it's more finalized to update it.

I have been chipping away at Sharon's scene and I'm two stages away from completing it. I do want to make a short morning after sequence for it as well so let's call it 3 stages. When I say stages I basically mean Lisa & Sharon changing position and/or location. For reference there are probably around 20 "stages" thus far so it is well underway. Then I have to pop it all into RPGM, write and format it all which will obviously take some time too given that it's well over 200CGs and also has some RPGM sequencing in it too.
It will be uploaded in August :)

I'll probably make an update post between now and it's release but I'll likely talk on future events rather than bang on about this scene any more.
The remainder of the post, I'll populate with the original release post if you care to read it. It's just a huge collection of thoughts and reasonings ^_^

EDIT:::::
I also just wanna say a HUGE thank you to everyone who reported issues in the past couple of weeks, you guys are such an unbelievable help to me, you've no idea. I appreciate it so, so much <3

HOLY GOOD GOD THIS PATCH IS A LOT OF WORK...…...

IF SOMEONE COULD REPORT BACK TO ME THAT EVERYTHING APPEARS OKAY THAT'D REALLY SETTLE MY NERVES. THERE'S A CHANCE THAT THE GAME COULD CRASH UPON OPENING OR AFTER LOADING AND ENTERING AN OUTDOOR MAP. IF NO CRASH HAPPENS THEN WE'RE CLEAR, IF A CRASH HAPPENS THEN I'M IN PANIC MODE SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW LOL xD

I need to come up for air from this beast lol. I was reviewing some of the Sharon content yesterday thinking "damn, this is actually well written...... WHEN did I write this exactly?" Like it's at least a whole month that's just a blur in my head cus I haven't jacked outta the matrix in so long. ANYWAY..

Wtf is Lisa - Silence In The Rain? It's explained about 3.5 miles down this post in the "steam" section if you're interested.

This is gonna be a long update post so brace yourselves (or ignore it entirely, your life will be exactly the same either way ^_^) I'll spare you from my usual run-up-to-patch-day woes; you know the deal by now. Difficult patch to put together, it was an absolute BLAST to make for most of it, I absolutely love it but I am glad to be almost done with it. I need something relaxing after this.. What was supposed to be a quick addon to the previous patch has ended up being the biggest patch in the game's history.

Firstly, if you missed the public post. The patch isn't fully finished in that the final scene isn't available. There's a full dinner on the plate but there's no dessert :| Same deal as with the Mod Shop scene from last patch; it'll be uploaded the second I have it finished. I was gonna leave all of the final scene CGs in the picture folder for you to peruse but I've decided against it because I don't wanna offer that temptation. It'll only spoil the scene if you look.

I just feel so bad not releasing something for you guys, I can't shift the guilt from my head so I'm just gonna drop this as is and continue working. I could've postponed the patch further but it's not fair on you guys having to wait for so long and I'm stressing myself out thinking about it and that's certainly not helping my momentum. It's unreal how patient everyone's been and I just wanna say a massive thanks to all of you for that. I don't take it for granted how fortunate I am to have such a lovely wee community, I really don't xo
Anyway, it sucks that the big scene isn't finished yet but I won't stop working until it's done, you have my word on that. All I wanna do is lie down, maybe play a game or something but there's still much work to be done so rest will have to wait lol. Hopefully it isn't too frustrating, there's a metric ton of content in this patch so I'm praying that you guys find some fun in the rest of it.

THIS PATCH IS STILL UNSTABLE - SAVE OFTEN. This isn't the usual run of the mill bugs that I can fix by taking your save and editing it. This is full blown game crash errors that I can't recover so please be careful - if you do encounter a crash, report it to me asap if you would. Details like what map did it occur on and what were you doing are extremely helpful.

If anyone ever actually wants the full uncompressed game, let me know. It's huge but I can upload it if there's a demand for it lol

Alright let's talk a little about the patch itself:

This isn't a typical Lisa patch. There's no story content, no humongous 30 minute long scenes (yet..).
I predict that the reception to this patch, without a completed final scene, will be relatively mixed at best. The reason being is that there's no forward progress on any known characters with the exception of Sharon and the neighbour; the former is missing the most important scene and the latter is relatively minor (though it's hilarious, I love it xD).
One of the most common complaints about Lisa as a game is the lack of utilization of RPGM's strengths, mainly the ability to view mini events across various maps. This patch is largely occupied with such small events to build the initial phases of Exhibitionism. The downside to this is that Exhibitionism has no real final "payoff" which usually isn't well received but it was necessary to open up a large development slot to get the flood of mini events into the game. The myriad Exhibitionism events aren't directly linked to one another and they don't involve any of the core cast because involving main characters in optional routes causes a ton of potential overlap and cohesion issues in the story so I try to avoid it.
I'm braced for a middling reception and I have been for a while but at some point I had to allocate time to get the stat up and running and to flesh out Renshire a little.

Exhibitionism is an optional stat that will be utilized throughout the later half of the game. Allowing for alternate routes in many of the favored areas of Renshire. Troy comes to mind here as I noted plans for optional scenes with Troy based on Exhibitionist progress when I was structuring Christy's parlor events in the previous patch (one of these events is in this patch currently though it's not found in the massage parlor - it'll happen eventually, just keep riding that train when you have high exhib <3). Places like the Bathhouse will be HEAVILY impacted by Exhibitionism, the nudist beach will actually require high Exhibitionism to access, etc, etc.. You get the idea.
As noted in a previous post, Exhibitionism grows in tiers. T1, T2, etc. I also mentioned that you can "Reminisce" or "View Comments" depending on the event type. There are also variants of these based on Lisa's maximum Tier unlocked. If Lisa reminisces or reads comments on an event she's just viewed then her temperament toward it will be similar to how she acted during the scene but if she reminisces / reads comments a couple of tiers later, she will have different responses, more explicit reviews of the scenes and less shock to some of the more vulgar comments. This is a minor thing but I hope it serves to add to the feeling that Lisa's getting bolder where it comes to the Open Exhibitionist website as her Exhibitionism level rises - I didn't think it made sense for a bold Lisa to review a scene timidly so this was added to combat this.
I think the actual implementation of the stat is great. I'm extremely happy with how it opens, how it plays and how it's currently gated. It makes a lot of sense to me, it's straightforward and quick. The returning of events to the website is a little different but makes sense narratively and also leaves little to no room for issues from my pov. The events used for levelling are all small to medium and are extremely easy to find so it should be easy to hit max (19 currently as 1 event isn't finished) fairly quickly.

There are some Exhibitionist events that aren't in the core leveling process - some of these are continuations of mini events, some of these are photos that Lisa decides against uploading and some are larger "milestone" events; these include things like the Construction events which require a certain Exhibitionism level to proceed with but can't be used to level up the stat.
Some of you may be wondering how any future Exhibitionism events are gonna be added as the rooms setup for each tier are currently full. The answer to that is; I'm just gonna have to reshape the room as more events get added. Obviously there are several areas of the game that don't have Exhibitionist events yet, mainly the credit areas which will be added to as I work on those areas in future. I just have no real idea of just how many events are gonna be on the website in total as I'm very open to suggestions here, so we can just tweak things as we go :)

That's one half of the patch..

Sharon's content however is unfinished and that really sucks. I really want her content to be well received. It's a fair amount of build up and silliness to get cucked by me not including the reward lol. I had to include the build up. It wouldn't make much sense without it and I think it could've even used more but you guys can be the judge of that. I also think it's nice to have more interactivity added to Lisa's house. There are still events to be added to Lisa's house in the wake of the final event but they'll have to wait. I'm open to suggestions here too, big or small so feel free to throw your ideas into the pond ^_^

How to find and start the new content:

To start Sharon's content: She should automatically talk to you when you come downstairs after getting Lisa's Pink Street Outfit - this will start the new Journal entry: "Sharon."
After this, visit the downstairs bathroom at night to get started and just follow the journal. There are some instances where Sharon will be in two places at once. This isn't a mistake, I had it so that Sharon could only be in one place at a time and then she alternated each day but just to streamline the process I removed it for now. This is just to save you guys from having to sleep a dozen times to see everything. This will VERY LIKELY be changed back to alternating locations and the events pushing the time of day forward at a later date when the core focus of the game isn't all on Sharon and instead players can run through the content alongside other stuff :)

To start Exhibitionism: After completing the photo club stuff from the previous patch simply use Lisa's PC and select "Open Exhibitionist." The game will explain everything from there. There is a "secrets" room at the bottom of the main "website page" that's accessible after opening the T2 gate which isn't fully populated currently but it does sort of hint at what content is available (this will all make more sense when you play). Not all of the scenes available are on the Website or in the secret room because I'm an idiot and made too many scenes but you can run around and look for the new exhib balloons and you can't really go wrong lol. I think almost all of these are repeatable too which is why filling up the secret room was quite low on the priority list.

It's best to play both of these strings of content alongside one another. Not only is some of Sharon's content locked behind higher exhib but both require sleeping to continue different parts of the content. Sharon's early content is also found at night whereas almost all of the Exhib content is found during the day. But play as you wish <3!

OTHER:

There are too many changes to the game this patch to even list but some additions I do wanna go over.
There are more custom scripts added in this patch than in the rest of the game combined. It might not be complex to a programmer but for me this is by far the most complexity ever added to the game and it isn't remotely close. There are also visual upgrades to all outdoor maps in the form of recoloring and bloom effects in all 3 day cycles as well as new particle effects, new overlays, filters and some other bits n pieces. Some plugins have actually been edited to deal with conflicts in creating some of the new sequences and others have been written from scratch. The sheer amount of knowledge I've gained in this development period is unbelievable, I'm excited at the prospect of applying my new skills in the rest of the game both future content and past.
I can't stress enough just how far out of my comfort zone some of this stuff was and it very well could still be causing problems during other parts of the game. I don't have the capacity to consider every possible outcome nor do I have the time to test the entire game so if anyone comes across ANYTHING fishy, especially regarding text boxes or game crashes; please let me know ASAP x

Cut content:

There were quite a lot of scenes cut from this patch that were either left unfinished and I ran out of time or they didn't align with the framework / didn't fit within the first 4 tiers. An example is that there was a further Forest sequence where Lisa goes deeper into the Forest and finds a couple out there. This was cut because it would've meant adding the fifth tier of Exhibitionism this patch and I just didn't have time so it'll very likely be added in a future patch along with the rest of the stragglers. There was another sequence of scenes outside Albiss that aren't finished because I literally forgot about them. I built the set months ago, created the CGs and they got lost in the pile. There are a couple(?) of Exhib events that don't appear in the main page either like a bath event that you'll likely find. The reason these didn't make it into the main page is again, because I forgot they even existed until yesterday. Did I mention this patch was big yet? The bathhouse stuff is all rendered and edited but the scenes themselves aren't available yet. I'll probably write those up tomorrow and have them ready for the Model release or at latest the tutor release

Another large assortment of Exhibitionist scenes that were cut were the laborers at Lisa's house. I actually love this idea so I'm kinda bummed that I never found the time for it but I thought it'd be best to create these alongside future Sharon content - a whole section of scenes around Lisa's house that require both a mid/high Exhibitionism level and also significant progress in Sharon's content to unlock. Because these weren't added this patch, they could actually be added after completing the Construction events in the outskirt and share the same cast of characters. Food for thought, we can talk more on it later down the line :)

Things to be included in the next upload:

-College Lounge scenes finished
-Bathhouse scenes implemented
-Sharon Voyeur 2 implemented
-West Wall 2+3 implemented
-E Forest 2 + OE finished
-Open Exhibitionist transparent replays implemented
-Fall Guy 2 finished
-"SEEN" Balloons (displays to show over the circle nodes left currently where you've viewed the scene found there)
-Secret room in OE finished
-Recollection Room updated with Sharon's content

And of course any bugs that are reported will be fixed as well.

There might be other things that I'm forgetting but I have a bazillion things in my head atm so I'm finding it difficult to parse my thoughts. The final scene with Sharon still has SO much work left to do in it that it'll not be up for a while yet.

As a final note; if anyone wants their name + a message left on any of the photos in the Open Exhibitionist website; that offer still stands. You can drop it in the comments or message me directly with the name you'd like and the comment. You can specify which image you'd like it on too obviously. These were annoying to set up but SUPER easy to edit so feel free to chime in! ^_^

That's about it for the patch. I wanted, so badly for you guys to enjoy this one. It's easily taken me 1000 hours of work to put this one together which is just an outrageous amount of time so I'm nervous about it. Both on the content reception and for it's stability lol.

As always, I'll be eager to read everyone's feedback and if you find any bugs, let me know and I'll fix it immediately!

Steam Release Progress:

So.. with the potential for a Steam release getting closer, I had to consider a new title for the game. "Lisa" isn't gonna cut it given that there's another game actually called "Lisa" and I just think the game could actually use a proper title so I've been giving it a LOT of thought this year. Whilst considering the game, especially the important moments in it; I decided on a scene featuring solely Lisa and Aoife at the point of no return at the end of the game. It's a somber dialogue between the two that serves to drive and motivate Lisa and her decisions in the final hours of the story.

"There's only silence in the rain.."

This hasn't been updated in the game graphics or anything yet because I plan on remaking everything regarding the title screen next year but that will be the named title of the game going forward:

"Lisa - Silence In The Rain."

New title? Big deal.. True, but when you open the game there's a little surprise waiting that's centred around this new title. I hope that you'll take a minute to evaluate the game's new OST and please let me know your thoughts on it so far. It's not finished and I am pretty nervous about what you guys are gonna think about it but I think it's turning out pretty nice so far. If you think otherwise, please don't be shy and tell me! ^_^

-

Yes.. This new addition to the menu took quite a few hours to pull together. It still needs work but it's structured enough to showcase at least. I'm gearing myself toward the Steam release and getting that hook is important for first impressions on the game's page n such as it'll also be played in the little video box when you open Lisa's page. On top of that I'm gonna need "key art," banners and a logo for the game. I've been searching around on twitter and on artstation for artists that draw my eye. I'm a complete dunce when it comes to advertising AND 2d graphics so I'd like to find an artist that I can pass a moodboard to, chat a little about what I'd like to convey and trust that they'd be able to see the vision better than I can. I'm thinking for the game's art it'd be cool to have a Gotham-esque vibe to it; corrupt city, rain (obviously) and have Lisa / Aoife / Tony in the art. But that's where I get stuck lol. I REALLY wanted to have all of this done and just WOW you guys with the initial launch of the new and improved Lisa but I just didn't have the time sadly. I don't wanna rush the art stuff because it's gonna be used for the rest of the game's life so you'll just have to wait a little longer for me to get it all sorted :)

I mentioned earlier in the post that there's also a big visual overhaul in the game this patch too. This took a LOT of time to mod and put together but again it's me trying to really finalize portions of the game. Currently there's NOTHING final in the game but if I add the core art (banners, etc), a full intro sequence, the new main menu hook and these new visual upgrades then I can at least say "that's all done" and focus on what I do best which is craft CGs.

What's new in the visual department:

PPPPPPARTICLE EFFECTS!

Yes, an entirely cosmetic addition to the game are the new particle effects. These range from leaves blowing in the wind to glowing bokeh effects in maps like the Forest at night (please visit the forest at night, it's so gorgeous lol). I had dabbled with the idea of a port from MV > MZ to make this a bit easier but that was too much work and would likely kickstart a ton of problems so instead I've opted to script my way into MV particles. These are applied through most of the games outdoor maps and are toggleable in game. If you're experiencing any lag with these effects, simply press escape or right click > Options > Show Particles: OFF and they shant bother you again (it literally took me 2 full days to get this option functionality working between two completely separate plugins handling the particles so I hope at least one person gets some use out of it lol xD). I'm hoping this won't be an issue though as the images used for the effects are extremely small, they're compressed further for your version of the game and there are never any instances where there're thousands of particles on screen at one time but on top of the other visual effects added to 3.2, it might reduce lag for anyone having trouble. The option is there nonetheless x
These effects were difficult to implement because the plugins used to create them actually store data in your save when a new file is made meaning that they aren't backwards compatible with old saves as the plugins have never been installed in any previous version of Lisa. Obviously I would never ask you to replay the entire game just to add a few leaves + bokeh effects and I can't individually edit tens of thousands of saves so I created a few plugins that seek to add this data upon loading a save foregoing the requirement to write it initially (thanks largely to chatgpt). I have tested this myself and asked another user to test it as well and we haven't found any issues with it so far but that doesn't mean that there aren't any. If you do run into an error that crashes your game, let me know and I will fix it in minutes. I can't recover your game if it does crash however, crashes in RPGM are a one way street so always remember the first rule of fight club.. BACKUP YO SAVES N SAVE OFTEN lol

New Overlays

More cosmetic additions but the old ones have been grinding my gears for years.. they had to go lol. I actually installed these overlays in the patch with the leaflets event in it but because of non-backwards compatibility I had to put it on hold until I figured that out. The new overlays can also be toggled in the options and reverted back to the old low res textures. Why would you revert? Well.. Some of the maps in Lisa are EXCEPTIONALLY big (hello west district, hello Renshire forest..) and the new overlays are static on background instead of static on screen. This means I needed really big images for some maps and that may cause problems for those with less powerful rigs (the largest rays image is 4k resolution and it's used in the largest maps being Renshire Center / West District / Renshire Outskirt / Forest). Anyway you can get rid of them if they do cause you any grief! ^_^

Filter Effects

MORE cosmetic upgrades to our pretty little Lisa game. This one is relatively low load but AGAIN there's a new toggle in the RPGM options menu to remove these entirely. It just seeks to beef up the beauty of the game a little by making colors + lights pop a little harder and blend the maps together. This plugin also offers the ability for me to use other cool effects which I will absolutely be trying during some spookier content down the line so it's not just effective now but also in future content too. If anyone's playing through the game again, I used the Deloitte Mansion sequence to test a lot of these effects so you can see some of the weirder effects in play there when you get control of Lisa as she's sneaking around ^_^

If you're a purist and want all of the old settings back, go right ahead! But I think Renshire's looking mighty flippin' good these days!
Hundreds of lines of script, 10+ custom built plugins and probably 100 hours of my life to make it so but I'm gonna say worth! :) (I can almost guarantee that no-one else thinks this is worth xD)
This game's my pride and joy and it makes me happy to see it getting better every patch. 3.2 was all about giving life to Renshire and I think these cosmetics actually add a lot.

Performance "Upgrade"

Despite the addition of a million things to make your fans whirr, I have been trying to conceive of ways to better handle the game's cache to counter balance the RAM hungry buffs. Lisa has so many images (over 9000!), hundreds of sprites and nearly 1000 faces. Hundreds of these are likely loaded per playable day but even when they're erased during or after a scene, your RAM is still holding onto them until I tell it to dump it or you close the game. This is why during extended periods of play in Lisa, your game will run progressively slower on less powerful hardware. It's not an easy problem to solve because simply clearing the cache at every opportunity will also cause lag for those with slower disks / mobiles because then your computer has to extract the data from the disk instead of the RAM which is considerably slower so it has to be somewhat strategic to look after as many players as I can. It's something I'll have to action for the entire game at some point but for now I'm just focused on current and future events.

If you'd be so kind as to report what kind of performance you're getting this patch I would be really grateful. I'll be asking this in future too because if performance isn't up to standard; I'll have to create a pre-load system for larger maps. The indoor maps currently have very little parallel processing going on (this will change later but not drastically so) so creating an automated loader for overlays and such when Lisa's character goes through a door wouldn't hurt performance indoors but might increase performance when hitting the outdoors again. The backend is sort of setup for this already but I haven't dipped my toe in just yet. Lisa is gonna be AT LEAST 2x this big upon completion so having the ability to pre-load images is likely gonna be needed at some point.

I can't even imagine how frustrating it must be for players who don't have access to top of the line hardware who just wanna play a game and can't because it isn't well optimized. I know even AAA developers (non adult) have thrown optimization to the wayside in so many instances in recent years which just sucks. If anyone is having problems with performance, first try turning off the particle / layer settings in the options menu and change map in game. Test each option on and off and try to figure out which of the new additions is causing the lag and let me know! My PC is absurdly powerful so it's not something I can test myself so I'm relying on feedback to positively affect change. If you are reporting a performance drop; make note of which map in particular is lagging (likely culprits will be the forest / renshire / renshire west). Another way to reduce lag is actually sleeping now. I've set the game to reset the cache when Lisa day resets so if you're chugging along give that a whirl and see if it makes a difference. Problems like this are just puzzles to solve and I love puzzles so please give me some to work on ^_^

I was also playing around with some parallax stuff that never made it into the patch but at some point I'll be rebuilding a lot of the primary maps of the game as parallax maps (basically layers of images as opposed to the tile system) so I can paint them accordingly. RPGM's tile system is super nice and easy to use but it's very restrictive whereas parallax mapping gives you much more control. Anyway I'll talk more on this later down the road but just know that Lisa is gonna be the sexiest MV game you've ever seen and not even because of our gorgeous protagonist! :D

---

What's actually left for a Steam release?

A lot unfortunately but I'm chipping away at it.
I'll be putting all of my focus into finishing Jayce's Party next. No parallel adventures, no detours. Finalizing Jayce's Party is full priority once I feel this patch is stable and complete.

After 3.3 (Jayce's Party) is finished, I'll be devoting 1 day each week to rebuilding a lot of the game's early content. I have a lighting framework saved and ready to import to all of the old scenes to increase efficiency but virtually all scenes up to and including the Swim Trip (will review scenes individually after the Swim Trip come the time) will be re-rendered and have the writing adjusted. Nothing changes in your game, but it's finalizing time. I was a scrub with 0 clue what I was doing when I made Episode 1 so it's a total mess and needs bumped up to my current standards without sacrificing forward progress.

The only other thing is the remaining music. You probably noticed that some maps have different music in them now (Forest / West District, etc) as this is an ongoing effort to replace all music in the game with music that I have full legal rights and control of. This won't actually take that TOO long, I estimate that I could probably have the full library completed in around 100-200 hours but it's still work that has to be done.

Once the outstanding music is replaced, the first episode's visuals / writing have been reviewed and remastered, the game's key art / logo / banners are added and the title screen is good to go?

Lisa - Silence In The Rain will hit Steam :)

I just want to do it right. Tying the visuals, the story, the music and everything surrounding together to make a cohesive product that feels united in it's objective.
I'm hoping that I can release it on Steam next year. Likely in the later half of 2026.

Long release post, God DAMNNNNN

tl;dr: pG is a fruit n' he takes his coffee black.

I know there will be some folks unhappy that I took time out of CGs / writing to make all of these visual effects and such but I'm always looking at the big picture. I'm looking towards a finalized product one day. If I don't do these things now, then when? It's not an easy choice given that I'm a one man band. I was chatting with a friend recently about the prospects of a Steam release and I uttered my usual "I don't have time" and he kinda planted a seed in my head about it. That I really should make some time to progress my goals for once.
I know there are some that will downplay all of this as "just an adult game" but I don't see it that way at all. I don't spend several thousand hours a year working on "just" an anything. This is my life at this point. I just want it to be perfect one day :)

WEBSITE COMING SOON (LOL)

I really wanna talk to you guys about all the ideas I have for after Jayce's Party too at some point.. How after that's done, I'd like to split things up a little and make patch 3.4 kinda like this with content scattered everywhere but that'll all have to wait for another day.
Don't hate me for not having the final scene ready pls! x(! I love you all and thank you as always for the ridiculously supportive and patient support. Report any bugs or inconsistencies to me here or in the comments and if I'm at my PC then it'll be fixed within minutes. Save often and on new saves and I'll talk to you soon everyone <3

I'll be keeping an eye on this post for the next hour or so but I am gonna give my brain a rest from working for tonight. I'll do replies and everything tomorrow probably. If no major errors pop up; I'm in bed by 9 lol x

("Yo, pG.. did u spend the past 5 months writing this post!?")

Thank you all so much x
